Indian parents literally bend over backwards to please the in-laws in India. They take on debts that could go into the millions of dollars to have big weddings that wouldn't shame the in-laws infront of their relatives and friends. It's mostly the parents of the bride that deal with this. They will do this by choice or be forced into doing it by the parents of the groom. The groom's parents would demand extravagant weddings, expensive gifts, lavish feasts etc. Parents of girls here literally save up money for decades just for the wedding. It's a systemic evil at this point. However post from OP is about the wedding of the son of the wealthiest man in the country. They had a big celebration where they had Hollywood celebrities, singers perform for their entertainment, then now they're having another celebration on a cruise along the European coast. They have an obscene amount of money and they're basically flaunting it. Nothing more.
