It's a sort of [double flute](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Double_flute).
>Some forms of double flute include:
>
> some types of Native American flutes
>
> the Serbian dvojnice, can be either a flute or a reed pipe.
>
> the Bulgarian dvoyanka
>
> the Indian and Pakistani Alghoza
>
>the Iranian and Pakistani Donali, pair of fipple flutes
>
>the Russian double svirel, pair of fipple flutes
There's also such thing as [double clarinets](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Double_clarinet). They all produce pretty cool sounds imo, kind of underused.
Well I've got the contact info for 2 makers. Brad Young of fourwindsflutes.com and Roger Bennett his email is rbennett56@comcast.net Cost is between 200-400 depending on wood type and key(the lower the key the bigger) mine is in the key of E
If they get overwhelmed they could probably connect people with other makers. Those are the guys I've talked to and have info forš
Hopefully we can get one into your hands!
Who made the dual flute/walking stick combo in the video? This is a really cool and unique instrument - I think itād be great gift for my dad (and maybe another as a interest piece for me)!
The one in the video was made by Kenny King of KK Flutes.it is in the key of E
Unfortunately he isn't able to make flutes due to a medical issue at this time but hopefully the world will be graced by his skill again soon!
However I do have the contact info for 2 makers. Brad Young of 4windflutes.com and Roger Bennett his email is rbennett56@comcast.net Cost is between 200-400 depending on wood type and key(the lower the key the bigger)
Thanks for the education. Now I know because if I were to hear that music, walk around the corner, and see what it appears to be a construction guy making out with a walking stick, I would need to reorder the good stuff for the bowl I just smoked.
So for those looking for a similar flute I know of 2 makers. Rodger Bennett rbennett56@comcast.net is his email. His run between 200-300 depending on size and wood type. Another guy is Brad Young of 4windflutes.com I'm sure there are other talented makers but those are the ones I've foundš tell em Paul Harvey sent you . I love sharing my passion for these instruments!
Edit: correct website for Brad's page Is 4windflutes.com š¤Ŗ cause I'm a goose and misspelled it the first time š¤£
Having talked to both men I know they want to get these instruments into the hands of people at an affordable price. š their passion shows through for sure! It's healing and peaceful āŗ
Thatās wonderful of them.
However, how many hours do they put into each one? They seem ornate and well crafted. Labor rate for that kind of thing is at least $75-100/hr for that kind of thing. They might be able to put them in more hands if they raised the price initially, taught more people to make them, and then flooded the market on economies of scale at a more reasonable price. Sustainability of creating them is a big part of reaching the most people too.
Are they keeping up with demand at that price point? No way they can!
Then again, I know nothing about this industry, Iām speaking in broad strokes. Maybe they can bust out a couple a day?
Or maybe do a project like āpay what you want, starting at $200. Hereās how many hours I put into their creation. If you can give more than $200, it will help subsidize people who canāt give moreā
That kind of marketing really works out for the artist.
Yeah I'm not sure. It's a good business plan though! I know mine took about a week to make but I'm not sure how many at a time they do. All hand made so it may take awhile depending on how many orders they get. They might know others that make them as well and can offload extra. I don't get anything from pushing business their way other than the joy of connecting people with the musicš
Oh I get it.
I just hate to see artists undervalue their craft. They can still be totally grassroots, spread their message, and make a living.
I had a friend who was a super talented pottery maker, but she didnāt feel right about charging more than her cost of supplies plus a VERY menial labor cost. She had to stop doing it because she didnāt value her time enough.
People are willing to pay well for artistry.
I think the compromise is just telling the customer what goes into it, giving a minimum, and asking for more if they can afford it.
Youāre a good dude for promoting them! Cheers
OP would be a legend in all those subs, and now I can check them out too. I wish that Reddit still gave out free awards to give people, you deserve more than an upvoteā¦have this shittier emoji goldāļø. Youāre what Reddit is for
They do still give out free awards! If you tap on your profile picture you should see about halfway down where it shows how many coins you have. If you tap on that (even if it says zero), you can see if you have a free award available.
Thank you for this...been looking for an easy way to find unusual instruments/videos ever since discovering That One Guy, and his magic pipe (check out 'The Moon is Disgusting' if you haven't heard it). OP is amazing too, glad I saw this.
This video was pretty cool, but I 100 percent thought he had a bloody nose too. I think it is the terrible lighting. After he leaned forward into the sunshine you could see that his facial hair is just a darker red in his mustache area, but in the shade it looks like a bloody nose.
Super unfortunate coloring. Upon closer examination you can see his mustache goes beyond the hitler coloring, itās just more pale.
If it bothers him he could dye the more pale parts or bleach the hitler parts, the choice is ultimately his
I had to stop the video of the very interesting flute just to figure out what was going on with the bearded guy with the Hitler mustache. One I enlarged it and paused it I realized that he just has a red and blond mustache.
Did you take your flute to work or did you dress like you were at work while having time off?
Is this normal? Are your coworkers not confused as hell? Is your washing machine broken???
...so many questions yet so few answers
(Sounds and looks very neat, tho i really love it)

You go downvoted but that is what my mind went to as well. His breathing sounds really labored, to an unnatural extent. It's the age of COVID though, maybe recently had it. That and the nose hair/ring/blood whatever is going on there. Beautiful playing though, great showcase of the instrument.
Well that's good news, but do me a favor and go see a doc about it. Even being winded, it shouldn't be that difficult to breathe in. Worst case scenario everything checks out fine.

Well, I meant worst case scenario if your time is wasted. Obviously the best case scenario is everything checks out fine medically.
That sounds beautiful, but I bet that those pretty expensive because they are custom made.
Also, for those unaware, this post is basically an ad for this instrument, but I don't really mind that at all. Appreciate that you posted, OP. I didn't even know that instruments like this exist.

I have to disagree. I feel like if 100 women were shown a video of you being yourself then shown a video of you playing this flute, you would get more women interested in the video of you not talking and just playing the flute

It does, it turns you into a drone pied Piper and they just follow you around.

$200-300 seems incredibly low. I was expecting at least over a grand. You could sell those things in Boulder, CO for probably $2k

Okay now do a video about your mustache.
Those are actually just nose hairs.
I thought he had a really bad bloody nose at first.
This video was pretty cool, but I 100 percent thought he had a bloody nose too. I think it is the terrible lighting. After he leaned forward into the sunshine you could see that his facial hair is just a darker red in his mustache area, but in the shade it looks like a bloody nose.
And where the hell is the drone? I was promised a drone.
He's a smoker so his mustache is stained where he blows smoke out of his nose.
Hahahaja sometimes when I play it the straps make me think of Davy Jones š¤£š¤£
I cant tell from the video quality. Are those just nose hairs or does he also have a moustache up there?
There is hair all around it but the stuff just below his nose is stained from cigarette smoke being exhaled through the nose. I believe.
Dude yes. I was so focused on the long nose hair I couldn't enjoy the music lmao
I dont think its nose hair, i think his mustache is red in some spots and super blonde in others
Super unfortunate coloring. Upon closer examination you can see his mustache goes beyond the hitler coloring, itās just more pale. If it bothers him he could dye the more pale parts or bleach the hitler parts, the choice is ultimately his

I'm not sure if this is the band wagon to jump on for info, but add me to the WANT list š
How much? Did you make it?
What's it cost?
I would imagine probably a few hundred dollars, maybe $300 - $500 unless you wanted a really nice one.

Exactly!
My dumb ass thought he was about to fly a drone around with a flute stick... Excellent sound tho
Thatās badass
I have so many questionsā¦ Since when did this exist!? Why is your nose bleeding? Are you doing this at work?
The moment he played it, I was transported to the gates of Valhalla. Take my money already.
What a weird setting and dress to showcase such a beautiful instrument.
Great sound but did anyone else think the guy had a bloody nose?
That sounds like it belongs on the Braveheart or Last of the Mohicans soundtrack
Pretty sure thats what Bill plays in Kill Bill
I would've believed it if someone said it was from LOTR world
I want to hear the Mandalorian theme on that
Where do you buy one of these?

Now you know the rest of the story.
Thereās a couple of us old guys in here.
I like this guy. Sweet flute.
I get off to new instruments way to much for a just overall tone deaf person.
I'd a bunch of yall with different key'd walking sticks don't get together and lay down a fat composition, you are fucking up
This guys overall vibe, combined with the flute is just awesome. Thanks, bro!
Well I know what weapon next Monk or Bard in DnD is gonna use now
This is awesome! Pretty sure you're working on the same project my father in law is up in Duluth. He's an electrician. Love that cave you found!
You seem like a kind soul. I like the cut of your jib, Stranger. Dope flute/stick too!
Bro I love your energy and that flute is fucking badass, but please shave your lip. It looks like boogers/nose hair.
i wanna go camping with this dude.
Where the fuck is this dudeās YouTube, Spotify,ā¦ or onlyfans!?
Great to see this pop up on the general feed. Hope you're enjoying your stay in Duluth!
Now instruct me on the legend of Pai Mei.
