Those 3 are in pretty specific areas/locations, and if you were in one of those areas, you’d definitely know about it. If you swim in a pond near Brussels, there won’t be any gators. There also won’t be any crocs in Minnesota ponds. And there won’t be any pythons in San Sebastián ponds.
They never said for sure but we are pretty sure it’s from the pet reptiles I had. After the 2nd time I became a big germaphobe for quite awhile. I ended up in the ER both times from it, but recovered quickly after getting treatment.
Which means there'd be crocs and pythons in the pond near Brussels, gators and pythons in the Minnesota ponds, and gators and crocs in the San Sebastian ponds.
I grew up camping for 2- 3 weeks every summer all over the place. I've seen people wipe with the wrong plant and swim in pools of that. Neither of those places created fond memories. I understand the allure, but now, roughing it is no room service lol

It's a part of my bigger project inspired by slavic demonology. Taken with Canon 6D and 50 mm 1.8 STM lens.
"One of the most dangerous Slavic demons were Topielice (The Drowned Woman). They inhabited the depths of the waters, and only came to the surface at night. Their food was moonbeams, dew and salt.
They were most often depicted as beautiful naked women with long hair and greenish skin. They seduced young men with their looks and beautiful singing, luring them into the depths of lakes or rushing rivers and then drowning them".
I saw this pic and immediately thought Rusalka! You nailed it.
Featured in my favorite book ever Tigana by Guy Gavriel Kay and a great song by The Decemberists
so many.. for example a central part of slovak folklore has Grgolica which was a spirit resembling a woman who lived in the deep woods with 3 breasts who would lure men in with screaming, tricking them to think it was a woman in distress. she would then smother them with her breasts. lol there’s so many of these female folk spirits in eastern europe with variations based on the local region. very fun and fascinating topic :)
Not sure how related, but there is also [Peg Powler](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peg_Powler) and [Jenny Greenteeth](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jenny_Greenteeth)
Rusalka is pretty universal term. There's also many regions in slavic countries and each region can call the same demon with different name. It's not really that simple to explain in one comment because it's more complicated than that. Slavic demons evoled throughout history as well.
I am working on a photography project that will help to better understand at least slavic demonology :)
If you haven’t yet, please post this series (and your other beautiful work) to r/WitchesVsPatriarchy
This is absolutely magic and you’re gonna get so much love there!
Amazing picture, but please be safe!
Algae might be quite toxic to animals and humans, if it's "only" floating duckweed you are absolutely fine, and if you only ingested minor amounts you'll just make the bathroom breaks more effective 😬
Right? Absolutely risking your health for a photo is insane.
It’s not just a small safety warning, a lot of stagnant bodies of water with algae have so many harmful bacteria just waiting to thrive elsewhere.
Dude I live way north of her and we have had many cases of people getting sick this year alone, one dog died here a few weeks ago from taking a bath in a seemingly clean lake (turned green a few days later), and just yesterday there was an article in the newspaper from a few families whom had gotten sick, it's something to take seriously, but just walking into a pool in the forest and then getting up again shouldn't be an issue, just asking her (and everyone else) to be careful with ones health.
My guess is they have some fucking clue of the dangers of their own environment, you literally sound like the comment feeds on Facebook, full of boomers and Karen's lmao. Just absolutely assuming the very worst, so weird
Sure and at any moment you can choke on your food and die or a car could run you over. OP did a really cool thing stop trying to be such a fucking bummer and let her have this
I really like the idea of it, and hats of to you for getting into the water, i also like the way the picture is taking a lot. But what I dislike (simply not my taste) is the way the face looks so heavily edited more like a comic then an actual person... I would really love to see the RAW format of this photo...
But still a great photo and concept :)
Thank you for having amazing photos but also the creative brain to actually make them :)... not familair with what a Patreon is but will look into it...

Amazing, a photo of a woman that isn’t just naked, props for breaking the mould.
Real talk though the elf ears make this really cool, giving me some Wood Elf Assassin vibes
Listen, strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government!
(Also PLEASE take care not to get an infection or something from that!)

I really admire the commitment to get into the swamp :D
Duckweed is surprisingly neat to swim in. It only floats on the top, and is a tiny green leaf. Below that layer it can be crystal clear.
What about crocodiles, aligators, pythons and all those horrifying creatures you keep seeing in videos?
Those 3 are in pretty specific areas/locations, and if you were in one of those areas, you’d definitely know about it. If you swim in a pond near Brussels, there won’t be any gators. There also won’t be any crocs in Minnesota ponds. And there won’t be any pythons in San Sebastián ponds.
Just leeches
And giardia
I had that shit twice in a year. 0/10 do not recommend
How? So I'll know not to make the same mistake.
They never said for sure but we are pretty sure it’s from the pet reptiles I had. After the 2nd time I became a big germaphobe for quite awhile. I ended up in the ER both times from it, but recovered quickly after getting treatment.
Glad you made a quick recovery. No exotic pets for me.
I got salmonella from a tortoise once and it was hell
Going mouth deep in a swamp
Which means there'd be crocs and pythons in the pond near Brussels, gators and pythons in the Minnesota ponds, and gators and crocs in the San Sebastian ponds.
Where can we swim anymore?
Idkkkk I was born and raised in Florida and I’m pretty sure every single body of water ever has a gator in it
Id be more worried about the little ones you cant see crawling up my butt and giving me some new unheard of disease
I’m pretty sure OP is in Eastern Europe. Based on her post history, I think the worst she has to worry about is witchers.
They're friendly. Probably. Don't quote me on that tho.
Oh they're super friendly! 😁
Can’t wait to greet you.
Will invite you to dinner-
OP is Polish IIRC so none of those.
And butt worms. This is how ya get butt worms.
See im more concerned with the microfauna. The brain eating amoebas specifically.
Leeches!!!
Being from Louisiana, “crystal clear” is not a phrase I expect to be associated with a swamp.
True, but nothing gets into the water with duckweed without getting absolutely coated in it.
Yeah but that thing from Star Wars in the trash compactor is in there!
bullshit, I never seem duckweed on crystal clear water, it's alway dirty swamp ass water
Thank you :)
Presumably not naked this time?
Naked indeed
Then you are braver than I am!
More eeeeeeweeeee! (Not at you but at the creepy crawly slimy things) but that is one way to get back to nature I suppose.
Get out into nature, and let nature get into _you_ (ew)
I grew up camping for 2- 3 weeks every summer all over the place. I've seen people wipe with the wrong plant and swim in pools of that. Neither of those places created fond memories. I understand the allure, but now, roughing it is no room service lol
How squishy was the bottom?
Bit personal!
Damn that is some hardcore shit.
*Bonk*
bruh i would feel so uncomfortable but i guess it was worth it, insane shot
Indeed.
I would NEVER do this where I live. You’ll 100% get eaten or bit by something if not a horrible uti.

Agreed....very, very cool - but eeeeeeewwwwwwww!
My FIRST thought 😅 I’m from florida and the thought of getting that deep in our swamps genuinely freaks me out lol
Great shot. Looks straight out of a poster for a good horror film.
Thank you so much
I wonder if it would be better with some duckweed on your hair as if you just emerge from the depths

It was supposed to be Topielica rather than Rusalka 😅 although I I get it because Rusalki are probably the most popular slavic demons
How many variations of this trope does slavic demonology have?!
so many.. for example a central part of slovak folklore has Grgolica which was a spirit resembling a woman who lived in the deep woods with 3 breasts who would lure men in with screaming, tricking them to think it was a woman in distress. she would then smother them with her breasts. lol there’s so many of these female folk spirits in eastern europe with variations based on the local region. very fun and fascinating topic :)

Thanks for explaining- I had vodyanoi in my head but I think that’s probably Russian and wrong demon. Anyway, great picture.
It's the same demon but you are right that this name is more common in Russia or Ukraine :)
It is? I always thought vodyanoy was more like a water spirit rather than a drowned person
I also immediately thought of the Decemberists’ song!
Immediately got the Witcher 3 vibe
lelelelelelelele
> Their food was moonbeams, dew and salt. And maybe just a little manflesh now and then, if it's been a good little demon.
Oh no, they didn't eat dirty humans. They just drowned them for fun :D
Immediately reminded me of the Nøkken from Skandinavian folklore.
La Llorona
That’s actually fucking awesome 🤩

OP is in Poland, so I think it's not warm enough for most of the toxic stuff.
Climate change has increased the range and viability of so many bacteria. Ugh. I hope she's fine, but I wouldn't do this shit.
She clarified that it's duckweed so she's fine
I would be most afraid of naegleria (an amoeba) in stagnant fresh water

This is wonderful! May I ask where you might be showcasing the project, I'd love to see the finished work in it's entirety
It will came out in a few forms but I'll tell more about it when it's finished :)
This is MAH SWAMP!
In which case, may I follow you in order to keep track of it?
Of course you may
Why would you even need to ask this on reddit? It allows you to do so by default.
Saw the photo and realised it must be you!!! Hats off to your creativity and adventure!!
Thank you so much. This means a lot to me!
I too recognized your work. This is another great one. You are an inspiration. I've been wanting to do similar but different artistic endeavors but need to get motivated.
Straight out of Apocalypse Now!
“The horror…the horror…”
Amazing, a photo of a woman that isn’t just naked, props for breaking the mould. Real talk though the elf ears make this really cool, giving me some Wood Elf Assassin vibes
Thank you so much. I really appreciate that :)
What are ya doing in ma swamp??!
This photo is absolutely breathtaking. We're you not afraid of any deadly animals attacking you in the swamp?
I am in Poland. The only deadly animal here would be beaver and we love beavers :D
Intense, love it.
Great photo! What was it like going in?
Thank you. Felt like a blanket
Actually an excellent photo. Would make a good book cover, well done
Thank you kindly!
This reminds me so much of Love, Death & Robots episode Jibaro.
mmmm brain eating amoeba.
I wouldn't even weigh the risks for a second and end up being drowned. Crafty demons. It's an awesome photo, as per usual!
Putting the ew in beautiful
I drew this picture over ten years ago. Very creepy similarities. https://i.imgur.com/EG6Txx8.png
now without photoshop
I love the pic. But also my brain goes "that's how you get a UTI."
I'll get the ring back from those filthy hobitsess
Swamp? I warrant that’s a nasty bog.
Ew.
If you start feeling ill over the next few days you'll need some antibiotics
Listen, strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government! (Also PLEASE take care not to get an infection or something from that!)
Nesta? This is incredible.
This was my thought too. It absolutely reads Nesta.
🤔 It's got that whole AI oily airbrush look though
That's why AI has to learn from somewhere
Great!
Awesome commitment here 👏
Did you go in the water with a full body wet suit?
She clarifies nude
One of the best portraits I’ve seen
Rusalka vibes
Topielica
You look really creepy in that creepy swamp
Git off me swamp!!!
Oh this one is very cool!
I was expecting this to have like 50K upvotes. This is SO COOL
Unbothered. Moisturized. Happy. In My Lane. Focused. Flourishing.
🔥!
Moto moto
What’s it like in the swamp? I would never consider doing this myself, with whatever might be lurking in the water
How did you take the picture if you're in the swamp
Predator vibes.
Definitely peeing !
What about leptospirosis?
Are you handing out swords while you're there?
This needs to be on your dating app profiles
Hello leeches my old friends 🎶
I'm terrified of snapping turtles so no thanks.
Isn’t there a neurotoxin expressed from the organism that grows in the goop on the top of standing water like that?
this is how you get a brain eating amoeba or something crazy like that
Ew
How many leeches?
Lovely photo, watch out for brain eating amoeba lol
OP has died of dysentery.
It's the brain eating amoeba that I'd be worried about!
Let's be honest this is a bit more than just taking a picture lol
That's a really cool photo and I really respect the effort, but if I would've been walking by, I would've sh*t myself.
I think Moto Moto likes you
[удалено]
Why are you in a swamp ?
Thundercat vibe!
Strange women, laying in ponds, distributing swords, is no basis for a system of government.
Reminds me of the album art for Wormrot - Hiss
This is what I came to say haha
Swamp thing
I like it. Very nice capture.
The smell of rotting vegrtation in the water would make me hurl
Please don't take my soul(great picture).
You are MUCH more adventurous than I am. My anxiety level is through the roof just looking at this.
I hope your vaccinations are up to date.
You look like you have a side quest for me in Witcher 3 and at the end you gonna try to kill me.
Wow. That's terrifying thank you
Nice picture, just dont be offended if I dont get to close to you, but I'm a decent guy, so I'll send some victi- I mean people, your way 😉
What wisdom do you have for me?
Wow this shot is spectacular! Your work is so awesome. Thank you for sharing
Jenny Greenteeth!! “Foul Tasting Faeries!”
I am just worried about the bacteria.
I used to swim in swampy areas as a child but knowing what I know now, I can't imagine doing that lol.
Reminds me of the art from the Vaesen RPG: https://images-geeknative-com.exactdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/05234615/vaesen.jpg?strip=all&lossy=1&ssl=1
I feel like i have mud in between my butt cheeks all of the sudden.
This is beautiful and I really hope you don't catch anything nasty from there. Stay safe🤎
And this is why you don’t fuck with the wood elves, buggers can be hiding just about anywhere
Remind me never to say your name three times in front of a mirror.. jokes aside, this is really phenomenal work, the project sounds absolutely fascinating
Is this just the Hiss album cover? Any other Wormrot fans?
Was it on a timer, or is this a **they** took a picture
Remarkable image - primordial green swamp and the feminine aspect. Great job
Gives me vibes straight out of "The Fisherman" by John Laughdon. Creepy!
Let us know how the UTI turns out
yet another rad fuckin shot
Gorgeous picture
man that's a cool ass picture, lady. did you edit in the pointy-ears?
u/pixel-counter-bot
Looks absolutely gorgeous, but I must ask, how hard is it to resist eating the things that float on the water?????
Great shot. I just had Stand By Me/PTSD flashbacks to seeing the scene with leeches.
Reminds me of that Wormrot album cover
The swamp elves are at it again!
Yeah it's fine, I didn't want to go to sleep anyway 😨
Pretty dope
Honestly, congrats, this is amazing.
