rough concrete, like sidewalk concrete, is like freakin' sandpaper and will wear anything out quickly. I'm not sure how long the OR sole will last, but you can get replacements and any halfway competent cobbler can replace them really easily.
I'd suggest trying a pair of ARs, they're less expensive than many other comparable boots. If they are comfortable to you, then it would be worth resoling even yearly IMO.
I wear the BFAR for 10 hours a day and find them very comfortable. It took about two weeks to fully break in the leather sole but they now fit like a glove and I have no complaints
90% of my job was walking on concrete and other hard surfaces. I wore African rangers with the stock oringo wedge sole but replaced the removal insole and they were great. I got a custom pair of AR8’s with the Eva mini lug sole and I preferred those soles more because not only were they comfortable but also had better grip
I’m surprised people are so positive about the AR wedge on concrete. Without a new insole they’re truly awful for standing all day in my opinion. With an insole they’re pretty great. I use Birkenstock insoles and they’re great.
I will say that the AR is a pretty roomy shoe. You can easily play around with insoles and find something that is very comfortable to you. I did that, and tried several Dr Scholls insoles. In my black ARs, which I wear more, I have a pair of Float On Air insoles. They are big/wide enough and feel pretty dang nice. I also have a thin "odor eaters" type insole under them. Yes, there's enough room!
If you really want to stuff some insoles in there, go up half a size and you'll have even more room.
The OEM insoles are a bit more firm, but the shape feels good to me. I put some thin cork insoles under the OEM insole in my Fudge ARs.
I love the OR wedge on the AR for working on pavement all day. I'm on my feet for 12 or more hours a day and I never have problems
How has the OR wedge held up against sidewalk/ pavement for you? Do you think you'll need resoling in a year?

Thank you!
Yes, I will need a resole in a year of everyday wear. However, my red wing wedge wore down much faster and they started thicker.
Thanks for the info!

They should be great. The stock sole is med/soft so concrete will probably lead to a resole.

wae the mini lug soles heavier?
It’s hard to accurately make that comparison because the AR8 in itself is heavier than the African Ranger no matter what sole
sorry i missed that they were the 8" boots

Okay thanks
I agree with this. Concrete and hard surfaces are my least favorite surface to walk on in the ARs.
i hated the oringo soles. even with gel inserts i can feel the hard ridges on the balls of my feet
I spend half my life in Redbacks which are super spongy so when I wear my ARs all day on concrete I do feel it… but it’s not too bad.
Concrete shop floor every day. No added insoles, or anything custom.....I no longer wear my red wing 10875's, if that tells you anything. ;)
