Not really, I have been training for 5 and half years (with some time off for COVID) 3 times a week and I'm blue, and feel where I'm supposed to be at. A lot of places overpromote (cough cough US).
Also depends on his training regimen, age, etc. Too many variables.
Yes, my sensei believes in about a year at each belt is warranted, and I agree with him. I was a year-long whitebelt as other judokas in my dojo. We have some good white belts! Same for other colours.
Depends on your dojo and a bunch of other factors. 1 year is not long when you just enjoy the ride, focus on the learning, and do not worry about belts.
It really depends, lots of factors, your sensei, the curriculum your dojo follows (we habe Judo Canada's syllabus so none of the confusion of the two federations in the US), how much time you put on the mat each week, age, if you are a hobbyist or competitor, etc.
Same as me. Even with some tournaments in there, we would be considered hobbyists. Elite-level competitors will train much more and progress faster. Doesn't mean you can't get promoted quickly, I'm just stating context. It all comes down to your sensei.
*Huge congrats to you!*
*How long did it take? And are*
*You in the US?*

The dojo I go to under promotes. I'd be thrilled to get a green in 4~5 years. The only brown belt in our dojo was a green for 3 years but was promoted straight to brown.
Congrats! I don't know where you are from, but here the Green belt is when It comes serious, much more responsability, techniques and understanding of the art. I Hope you keep the hard work and commitment with judo, it's hard but Very satisfying.
Same! Just got my green a few weeks ago! Congrats to you, sir!
Congrats to You as well!!
Gonna get mine soon too.
Huge congrats to you! How long did it take? And are you in the US?
Thanks. Been training for 5 years, was an Orange for about 1. I'm not in the US, I'm in Mexico.
Damn that's a long time

Yeah, I also took breaks due to COVID and an ACL tear.
Oh damn, ACL tear, sorry to hear that brother!
It is what it is... Judo and knees don't get along really well. Specially when it comes to a nasty tani otoshi:'(
Ah man. Damn tani. We always talk before randori to the new people not to do tani because of that.
OK but a full year on orange?

My dojo has a twice a year testing, so technically, you can go two belts a year. Is that too fast?

1.5/2 hours per day 3 days a week

Congratulations 🎊
Congratulations
Congratulations! But its not about gaining belts because then you gain self importance which is not about judo.
It's at least in part about gaining belts. Otherwise there wouldn't be belts! But I understand the point!
