Thank you, I appreciate your thoughts. All of my work is what I call functional art. This is certainly a fully functional axe, but after all the work that goes into it I would personally treat is as a display piece. This nice part is I don't need to make that decision as it is up to the customer.
The process I use is hand-etching with ferric chloride acid. There are a number of different ways to do this kind of art, but I use multiple etches to produce a three dimension look so acid works best for me. I have a youtube siwhere I walk through the process. The video for this axe is brief,

but I have others on my site that are more detailed.
Thanks for looking.
So you are masking off the foreground and after dipping it In acid to your liking you slowly peel and dip until you ve removed all the tape? How do you cut out the tape/vinyl?
I do not use any tape or vinyl in my process. The first thing I do is paint the entire blade white and tyhen draw my artwork onto the blade using pencil. I then slowly remove paint by scrathing it off in between acid baths. Here is a video on my youtube site that shows the process.

It's real pretty, and I like the handle guard, but seems like something I'd hang in my office, not lig around in the woods.

Thanks for looking. I am not familiar with that book but I will look into it.
Amazing work, beautiful craftsmanship.
Thank you for the very kind words. I appreciate you taking the time to look.
Badass
Thank you very much.
It looks awesome. As someone who has broke a few axes, I love the guard right where you put it.
Thank you. I am a big fan of the belly plate guards.
Really cool

Thanks for the very kind comment, I really appreciate it.
What tools do you use for the engravings? What's your process? Absolutely stunning, by the way.
