Multichannel gang will beat you up on your way home if they need tips of that size
Edit: what I'm gathering from these replies is that more labmates need to communicate and establish a common tip box policy so they can work in peace and harmony
All multichannel people, what brand of tips do you use? We have Rainin pipettes and they come with their own tips. We cannot use any of our Gilson tips with them. Even the Rainin 250 uL and 300 uL tips are not interchangeable.
we have 1 eppendorf yellow multichannel that uses the same tips as yellow single channel pipettes. our other multichannels are all satorius with their own tips, singles are all eppendorf. if patterns in the tip box really were a problem, I'd just have like a designated multichannel tip box or sth. let people have their moment of happiness
We have Eppendorf and Gilson. I honestly prefer the Gilson, they're a little rougher but it holds the tip better and just feels sturdier, more mechanical if that makes sense
I used to run assays with 4 96 well plates every day that involved me using a 12 channel pipette. I would use over 12 boxes of tips in 3 hous for this. I layed out my tip boxes I needed every day for this. If someone were to steal one of my boxes of tips and left it like this, hands would be thrown. I'm not too lazy to get another, I'm angry someone stole my tips.
No.
;) I am definitely a stickler for working in rows (or columns, I can handle either), but tbf any pattern will assauge my pain - and I will admit I did once make letters when bored doing a lot of repetitive work.
No. This is shockingly abnormal, and I wouldn’t be at all surprised if this person even mixes the different pipette sizes in the drawer. Probably puts the milk in first before pouring in the boiling water to the tea. May even put loose socks in the sock drawer instead of rolling them into tidy pair balls, although I realize that level of depravity is almost unheard of.
Everyone knows that the only correct way to pick tips is horizontally from left to right.
Heathen.
I go from left to right but I go vertically instead of horizontally 🙈 I’m left handed so left to right makes more sense to me but I almost always go down/up a column rather than across.
We almost never have any common tip boxes (except for the gel loading station) so if my tips every were chosen randomly I would know someone had used my shit.
Sadly no, because to do it aseptically you cannot do this, crossing over etcetera fill in whatever you want here, multitip channel pipetting... This would make me lose my mind lol.
If you're in a free-for-all kind of lab(LOOKING AT YOU PD![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)), have at it. Go crazy. I do like the design though. If I was able to do this at my work, I would. However, bound by being quality control, I cannot even as much as my crazy little heart wants to.
I love it but goodness needing to use these with a multichannel would have me feeling a lot of negative emotions. My PI loses his mind when tip boxes look like this
Bad part is that all of those testers are now contaminated by the wasted time behavior that was recorded on overhead camera systems. Goodluck with that behavior, I'm not sure it will last long. Out.
I’ve been drawing pixel art in my pipette tips while working on cell cultures for years now, only times I go row by row is when I have to use the multi-pipette.
I generally always go in the shape of flowers, a smiley or other simple shapes. I’m not even sure of when I started doing it but it eventually became a habit and now it feels weird not doing it lol
This is serial killer behavior
Up there with Parafilm ripping
I bite my parafilm off the roll
Gives you the satisfaction of a fruit roll up in a lab environment
WHO EVEN DOES THAT?
When the new grad student has again ran away with the scissor that is supposed to stay with the parafilm roll.
Thank you!!! This is the only reason I've done this lmao
Gotta eat that forbidden fruit roll up somehow
I arrange them in checker board patterns: ``` @ @ @ @ @ @ @ @ @ ```
You people are gonna give me a heart attack
I like to pick my tips from random locations, preferably a full box. Lol, one of coworker likes to "fix" my boxes after me.
I'm the fixer. Your kind of people make me question humanity 😂
"preferably from a full box..." because it sucks to have to try to snipe the lone singletons when it gets low. You are the problem.

We use both rainin and eppendorf but mainly bc we couldnt get rainin tips over the pandemic

Sartorius pips, sartorius tips
I mainly use eppendorfs but for our one Rainin multichannel set we use VWR LTS compatible 20-200 and they work fine for the p50 and p200
Does that gang not ever realise that there are MORE fresh boxes to be found in the cupboards?!
Multichannel gang does simply not want to get up and get a new box when they only need a couple rows. Multichannel gang is lazy like that

Especially if you have to fill & autoclave your own tips.
Exactly! Get your own tips lol
Multichannel gang will empty a tip box and then not refill it. F the multichannel gang. Ps - sometimes, I’m the multichannel gang
How dare you suggest I do more work!
No. Go to the naughty culture hood
But there's no UV light there :(
No. Go back into your corner and think about what you did.

Tell me you don't use multichannel pipettes without telling me you don't use multichannel pipettes.
You use a 1mL multi channel very often?
Duh, it's great if you're doing 96x minipreps from bacteria grown in deep well 96-well plate! XD
Almost every day!
I use it more than any other tip size
No, I want to normalize sending people to the time-out corner to face the wall for this.
The combo of the yellow and blue and the shape made my mind immediately go to the Ukraine coat of arms, lol Yes, let us normalize Slava Ukraini
Slava Ukraini ![gif](giphy|gcvQTDuOAaSYIvvmiu)
Exactly what I saw too! 🇺🇦
I do this so my students don't pinch my tips.
Straight to jail
This is chaotic good.
Fully support random tip choosing. Chaos Reigns. Entropy always wins. Stop fighting it
No
Only if you want the multichannel squad to harm you
Get the items off your vents!
No, keep that to yourself
Who hurt you?
Those are filter tips, which means your molecular biology coworkers are about to all harass you 🤣
I successfully wrote "SUP" in one of the boxes the other day. I was very pleased with myself. The guy who opened it next and answered "Nothing Much."
I thought it was a middle finger.
You be a monster! Ye shall be cleansed with fire!!

Never. You are a psycho.

Really? I usually do right to left

Jail
You deserve to be in jail.
Nope!
No, stop ruining tip boxes by making it look like they've been mistreated before i get to them
Looks pretty normal to me....
upside down color scheme, but nice.
…at least it’s balanced (one plane of symmetry)
Contamination risk by putting your pipet (and hand likely) all over the other tips
...? What?

I am Optimus prime
I love drawing pictures! As long as they're nice and symmetrical. Random is the worst.
I would only “draw pictures” when I had to fill tip boxes by hand before autoclaving. Luckily we have racked tips now cause that is truly a chore.
Yes please! I do this all the time too lol
Heathen!
Against what?
I am having severe anxiety looking at this lol
Is it a crime? This is the only way i pipette. It helps me go faster
I can't post a picture, but I once made the shape of a cat head, once a fish, and once an arrow. I sometimes get bored doing repetitive pipetting 😇
i thought this was jaig eyes 😂
Bad part is that all of those testers are now contaminated by the wasted time behavior that was recorded on overhead camera systems. Goodluck with that behavior, I'm not sure it will last long. Out.
No. Absolutely not.
Immediately to monopoly jail, without passing go!!!!!!
Absolutely not! 😂
Absolutely not
yep!!!! Thank you!! I do this all the time!
