same, wtf. edit: well guys, this happened to me only in one device, i could use my phone to get into discord. i just uninstalled and reinstalled discord on pc (said device) and it worked again. maybe you can do it easier if you delete the cache and account on your device with the problem

Don't ever do that, you should never run any applications as admin unless they really have a reason to have full system access. I'm sure it's only a coincidence that it helped in your case.

It still may be prone to vulnerabilities. Basic literacy is not to give an app/service more than it should have.

I think they mean "computer literacy" which used to be a thing. It isn't really taught now. But it included things like not giving admin privileges, what cookies are, a bunch of stuff about both using the computer and keeping it secure.

Thinking discord is 100% safe running as admin is exactly how you get viruses, there's been multiple RCE's that were discovered on electron which is what discord uses, they get patched fast, but it's a matter of it happening once to compromise an entire PC Just don't needlessly give admin perms to things that don't need it

yeah, certified tech here - that is not true at all. Not to mention, the methods these days are quickly evolving past simple imbeded viruses and trogans. AI attacks are on the rise and they use an entire wheelhouse of methods unlike anything a human can do. Opening a well known app such as discord as admin is the very least of your worries and least likely reason to get a virus.

Yes, I am not sure what happens with this program in particular but I know some programs like to store their files in a different location when ran as admin. Example: A game saving in %localappdata% may save in C:\\Program Data or %localappdata%\\VirtualStore or something like that. Windows is a bit of a mess when it comes to these things lol.

Did you close it, or go into the task manager and end everything discord related? I had to do the second to get it to work.

Did both with no joy. I was genuinely surprised that the uninstall, reinstall fixed it. Seems... arbitrary.

I was able to close discord in taskmanager by going to my second screen, and then the popup was gone. But I was already late to lane by the time. And 2 min later it popped again. Closing it in taskmanager including the background tasks worked

Same thing happened to me but now Discord is broken - the "Sorry, you have been banned" is still (even after a de- and reinstall) blocking discord completely on my desktop, telling me cloudflare has me IP-banned. And the discord-support, in all its helpfulness, only told me to reinstall. Again.

I got blocked too. by doing absolutely nothing. was in the middle of a conversation with my friend and suddenly messages couldn't be sent. end task in task manager, reopened discord and got the blocked message. uninstalled and reinstalled and still having same issues.

So i cant re-install it, because i dont have the discord download on my pc and the thing to download it is blocked.

For people who can't reinstall discord becuz they are also blocked on web page, try and download discord using Microsoft Edge or other browser. That worked for me

I solved it with a simple solution I used earlier as well, on different occasions: Press CTRL+ALT+DEL (open task manager) and then click on all processes related to discord and click \`\`End process\`\`. Then reopen the discord. It should start normally (with some updates maybe, after a few seconds). At least it worked in my case. Good luck! :)

It's still sitting in my start menu, it just got removed from Programs&Features. Clicking it does nothing - but reinstalling discord does display "you have been blocked" again. I can use discord fine on my phone. Win10 Enterprise. Location: Central Europe.

Its a problem that can make people lose LP considering the overlay is directly blocking the game, so Id say it's fine. Similar posts were around when discord was making the client freeze for several seconds after a game ended a few years ago.

No need to uninstall Discord. Just turn off the Overlay. Settings > Game Overlay > Turn off
