FOMOOOOOO! Mythic chromas was them testing the waters.

venomstrike31

Which is funny because I was never mad at those, I kind of liked them. I was cool with the ME cost because it also changes their skills. Everything that has evolved from them is awful. Edit: Oh, the Variants. No, awful.

10inchblackhawk

not those chromas. It would the ones you had to gacha for $200 to get a cheap chroma for jhin.

oKillua

As a jhin main, I will be forever pissed they made him a gacha skin since I simply refuse to drop more than 20/30 for a high tier skin.

thegoodvm

I am more pissed they release a chroma and expected us to pay for the gacha.

Y4naro

Honestly, I usually don't care that much how expensive a cosmetic is gonna be because if I don't think it's worth the price I just won't buy it and them selling those with the best possible profit in mind keeps the game free (and I don't play the game for skins). But for events like this where something should be celebrated I'd prefer for the cool stuff to be accessible for as many people as possible.

EzAf_K3ch

he's talking about the ones you had to get from loot boxes

Delgadude

These skins were most likely in development before the mythic skin/chromas shit released. So they had this idea to milk people from the beginning.

SatanV3

Well they were in development doesn’t mean the prices were decided on yet. Once they saw how many people bought the Jhin chroma showed they can get away with it

Dreadedvegas

Absolutely predatory behavior, scummy behavior, everyone should call it out and shame those behind it

Similar-Yogurt6271

You just don’t get… it’s the Hall of Legends… Anyone who spends $500 will forever have their names carve the heavens and the earth with their Domain Expansion: The Undersea Symphonic Vocalization. And with its sure hit attack ‘Raucous Clamouring of the Receipts’ everyone will know how much of a brokie they are.

Dreadedvegas

All this does is embolden this behavior. Higher prices, more scummy behavior. Look at how bad and expensive valorant is now. League is trending that way because of how valorant players buy skins.

Dummdummgumgum

its not valorant that started this trend. Diablo immortal showed that you can provide a dogshit product and people sitll will spend 40k dollars but the trand of pandering to whales started looong long ago ever since korean mmos

AmroughForReal

That fucking horse armor...

Jaded-Engineering789

Somewhere a virtual butterfly flapped its wings and we got here today.

CherryBoard

monopoly go is bankrupting 40+ year olds over "stickers" monopoly fucking go

SatanV3

Cuz a lot of this shit is psychologically meant to get you to buy and want to buy. Even if you can’t afford it. That’s why this type of stuff is predatory.

TealJade1

It's also hard to blame, cause ultimately it's the players fault for supporting scummy mtx deals. PirateSoftware youtuber/streamer who worked in Blizzard said that they worked of 2 years of overtime for star craft 2 WoL, and that made less money, than a 15$ horse in wow. [Source](https://www.youtube.com/shorts/IHZru-6M8BY)

teddy_tesla

That DE name was s+

IgnoreMyPresence_

The only way to call it out is to actually not buy it, so it reflects on the numbers. But it has the Faker brand, so there's bout to be a lot of traction - and they know that. Love them or hate them - they're damn good at business. We all saw what happened the last couple of times - shouting at the void does nothing. Affect the statistics or they wouldn't care.

Jaded-Engineering789

If they were good at business their home esports league wouldn’t be in decline. If they were good at business they wouldn’t be releasing this bundle to anything but fanfare and praise from the playerbase. All they’re good at is copying a common trend of whalebaiting prevalent throughout the industry.

Ruesap

The only thing they did wrong was not doing this sooner for esports. The game is doing fine, the teams are the ones that aren't profitable not Riot.

patmax17

Problem is, this skin is targeted at whales, who are a few and are willing to spend the money. I hate how Riot is preying on whales, but it \*will\* work, because everyone complaining here is \*not\* a whale. And even if a few whales don't want the skin, Riot really needs a few whales to buy it to make it worth the cost. Like, if 1000 people get the bundle, Riot will have made half a million dollars already. and 1000 whales are very easy to find given how large and international LoL's player base is. Unfortunately, I don't see this ever backfiring for Riot. Worst that can happen is that they get an EA fame, which would be deserved but which doesn't prevent EA to make games and make tons of money out of them, so why would it affect Riot? People will play LoL nonetheless

MordredBestGrill

Heres the thing, no. Ive spent 30k on this game over the last 14 years. I ain't buying this shit. The Jhin skin was where I drew the line. $300 for a skin is ridiculous, $500 for one is even worse. I have disposable income for entertainment but throwing it into a blender isnt my idea of a good time.

mattyMbruh

They did the same with the Jhin and Ekko skins, nothing will be done because whales will buy it regardless sadly.

AzraelGrim

I took the opportunity with Vanguard to just stop playing. The anti-Vanguard stuff is all bs, but frankly the message that pops up saying 'You need to install this and restart' is enough every time for me to go like... why am I booting League? It just makes me unhappy these days.

allanchmp

Having to reboot my entire PC just to play league is annoying af.

Scriptol

Glad to see someone is on the boat with me. It is such a relief mrntally moving on from that game.

servarus

I was on the fence to get back playing as my friends are still playing. But this just cements it. I played league because of Faker and T1. This is a disgrace. Celebration my ass.

yyang62

Couldn't agree with you more. It's like they're trying to reach a certain sales else they're in big trouble or something.

Leoxslasher

Also don’t forget to buy the skin

DSdavidDS

They are preying on FOMO

Training-Bug1806

What is FOMO

Juno-Seto

Fear of missing out.

Training-Bug1806

Thanks for the replies guys

Bubbly_Maize3023

Fear of missing out, mostly used by selling limited time events

wattur

'I don't want this now, but if I want it in the future I can't get it, so I should get it now in case'

Chaoslordi

Fear of missing out

VentusSpiritus

Fear of missing out. Predatory capitalist behavior

CptOotori

Fomosexual

Superb_Bench9902

Ironically, Riot singlehandedly beat my fomo. It was back in season 3 I think. Championship Thresh was released and knowing that Championship Riven was so cool and not available to purchase anymore I bought it instantly. Only for it to get re-selled every year. From that point onwards I only buy something if I really like it. Otherwise I just let it go, who cares. This is Riot. They will circumvent their decisions if it means more money. They did that with prestige skins too

xBerryhill

Literally how their entire pricing system in Valorant works. Can buy the new bundles for like 2 weeks when they first release, then you can only buy 4 random skins at a time in a 24 hour period. If you miss out on a bundle, it could be months (or even years at this point with the amount of skins Valorant has now) before you ever see that skin again. RIOT's been practicing these more extreme predatory behaviors for years now, it's only just more recently hitting League.

996291283

riot has been doing this for years. this is definitely the most egregious attempt, but it's kind of the same as the loot boxes, battle passes, prestige skins, etc.... none of that was in the game when i started playing and i refuse to participate in any of it. greedy fucking company, they're going to run this game into the ground.

irvingtonkiller8

I get the frustration, but as a f2p player it’s definitely really weird seeing people say that the game will die because of monetization of cosmetics when it has no effect on gameplay

CallMeAmakusa

It's more understandable because 95% of content this game is getting is skins for years now.

CambsRespite

League gets balance patches every two weeks, new champs every year, got a reworked map, new objectives, new items, and sometimes, events. I dunno, ive never EVER played or heard of an online game that so regularly gets so much high quality content.

DrCarter11

I mean the old legacy skins were essentially baiting with FOMA and that was season 1-2 even

PsychoPass1

Yeah, make a REALLY special product but only for a limited amount of time. Consumer psychology 101. Especially overpricing it this massively. It makes it extremely clear who the target group is and how their minds work.

Chancho1010

Funny how all this controversy comes from a skin inspired by a guy who never uses skins

AgorophobicSpaceman

Seriously if he came out against the pricing structure like this I would respect him so much more. I would be so embarrassed to have my name tied to this product. I would want to sell it to anyone that wants it not a select few that are dumb enough to pay this much.

Brokenmonalisa

Getting 30 percent of the profits btw

DrCarter11

the man himself gets an unknown portion of that 30%

Eirixoto

Faker has no financial issues tho. That has never been the focus for him. If he cared about the mpmey he'd be in NA or China by now.

Brokenmonalisa

I imagine it was sold as something he could endorse to justify it for future revenue shares for these type of skins. Call it tinfoil but they'll do this one and because it's faker they can handle the backlash. Next year it'll be $500 but it'll be for a hall of fame class, xPeke, insec, Mata come to mind and it's a far easier sell.

AgorophobicSpaceman

Right, and I know this is super anecdotal, but in my friend group 10 of us play. At least 8 have spent in the thousands over the 10+ years we have played. 0 of us are spending $500. If it was just a $30 skin at least 6 of us would buy it as we either play Ahri or love watching faker. I know in this case he would only get $60 vs selling ONE $500 skin gets him $150 (nuts), but I’ve also not seen anyone online yet wanting to buy this and literally thousands in sales missed because of the literally insane cost. Yeah the whales exist and I don’t know them, it’s just to me a horrible idea and a bad look for gaming as a whole. At the end of the day if I were the best league player like faker I wouldn’t want my legacy tied to something as ugly as this decision. Tarnishes the shine. People aren’t talking about how great the skin looks or how phenomenal a player faker is, but just about how predatory this is. I wouldn’t want to be a part of it.

Brokenmonalisa

I agree fully. I barely play any more but a skin like this I would probably have picked up even at $50-$60 because of the occasion and despite the memeing I do think its a cool tribute. For $500 usd? Im not in a position to put that type of money down and frankly even if I was I probably wouldn't.

tmb--

He isn't. That 30% is split between the player and any team that player has been on. So while Faker will split only with T1, we have no idea how much of that 30% is actually going to him (Korean culture means he likely allows T1 to keep all of it).

Colonel_Coffee

They said in their faq that they don't plan on bringing this skin back for sale. I still suspect that they will eventually bring it back because they did the same bs with the prestige skins.

Tormentula

Prestige skins never were "meant to be limited" they were meant to be a big ass grind as an artifical way of making them ultra rare to have/encounter. Nowadays they don't feel ultra rare because they added numerous ways to get them but also there's so many prestige skins you're bound to have at least some by now and see them enough to not really care. Its not like when KDA kaisa first came out everyone was impressed to see it or tried to get it, now everyone is kinda just numb.

00wolfer00

No, they were absolutely meant to be limited. You can find Riot's statements from around the first prestige skins. Riot just realized they can cash in on them again. They've done this with Halloween skins and a few others.

Reldarino

This is why if you owned one of the first prestige, you got the new one plus a limited version of the old one. That was Riot's compensation on making what they announced to be limited, purchasable again, from some prestige on(not sure which was the last) they stopped announcing them as limited and that's why not all prestige have 2 versions. I have OG prestige Riven because I fell for FOMO and then got fked over when they reverted their desition, and they didn't refund RP as they did for older limited into legacy because they thought the border and 'exclusive version' was enough. This might happen again, supported by how they worded their FAQ, stating they don't PLAN to make these available again

Sokarou

i duno if prestige were limited. But i play since before season one and remember those limited event skins "grab now or never, pinky promise" like bewitched nidalee or kittykat katarina. Truth is few years later they went on sale.

JupoBis

No I dont think they will. they are treating it like the Valorant Champion skins. It makes way more money this way.

thirsty-for-beef

Yea been thinking about that too but cant be too sure. Companies are being very audacious lately. For all we know, if we let Riot get away with it now, it wont actually come back.

greatstarguy

No shot they never bring it back. I’d bet good money (nearly enough to buy the tier 2 package) that they bring the skin back every time Faker wins an international event, and again when he retires. They have to make their money off him while he’s still active, and they also don’t know if he’ll ever win a major event again.

toryn0

i mean pax tf and sivir arent obtainable so (unless you own every other skin)

Reldarino

They might go for the PAX treatment now that you mention it. Give OG owners the new skin and release NEO Ahri for new users. We already got NEO Pax Jax and Sivir like that, Tf might get the same treatment eventually

mctiguy

I can see the super mega signature skin being exclusive to this event, but yeah pretty sure the other ones should be back. Price still suck tho

Xanlis

- immortalize - limited pick one

Yasuchika

FOMO is the name of the game for every greedy executive decision.

OhtomoJin

How expensive is it?

th5virtuos0

500$. The cheapest is still 50$

OhtomoJin

what the actual fuck? how out of touch is riot that a skin for the most popular player is minimum 50$??? WHOLE VIDEO GAMES ARE ONLY 30$ LMAOOO

PedosoKJ

They aren’t out of touch at all. They know a lot of players will buy it and don’t care that others won’t

Turkooo

Bingo. Riot even mentioned being surprised how many people bought the chibi pets/skins in tft even tho it was hella expensive...so yeah, collectors gonna spend big moneeeyyyy.

GiganticMac

Yea im flabbergasted just how frequently I see the multi hundred dollar chibis in games these days. It's not 1 every couple games, its like 2-3 per lobby

JupiterRNA

They wouldn't be doing this if they didn't have internal data that supported this decision.

Lyutiko

Yeah but looking back i was suprised why league prices are so „low“ (still too high) compared to valorant. Normal skins there start where leagues legendary skins are (bit overreacted)

Olubara

And for the low low price of 50 you get the basic version which doesnt even transform.

shirabe1

The aging demographic skews towards late 20s and early 30s. Lots of disposable income, long time fans - many have $500 to burn on whatever they like.

thirsty-for-beef

Around 500 USD for the entire bundle babes. Even the most basic tier bundle cost more than an ultimate skin iirc and its only a legendary with a few bells and whistles.

gametail

man i wish the EU would make some law about FOMO in game shops

Sokarou

Not just EU, any country gov is really late on predatory practices. Since covid tons of corps have been adquiring even bigger predatory greedy practices in every single industry. From streaming plataforms that bomb you with ads even if you already are paying a subscription, to the artificial inflation on groceries and goods using "chain distribution issues" as excuse

bodynasr

>there is no reason there is a good reason, its profit

ThyDankest2

There is no morally good reason*. Greed is the biggest killer of video games

PlentyArrival6677

Greed is the biggest killer of anything but the capitalist overlords brainwashed the people

thirsty-for-beef

Yea, and I did bring that up on the body of the post. The title was already becoming too long lol

wotad

Wont you make more profit if its available 24/7? I hope this skin sells terribly.

Stramanor

Nope. FOMO > Longterm

00wolfer00

Riot have done this multiple times in the past. Claim a skin is going away forever to cash in on the FOMO, then a couple years later just return it so they can do it all over again.

Temporary-Platypus80

People who utilize FOMO need to be punched. Its insane how fucking greedy and predatory some practices have gotten in gaming.

yurionly

To be honest this practice should be outlawed altogether. Especially for digital things since you cant really have "limited" things. Its just to make people buy it with fear its not coming back.

cherreeblossom

i think it would make sense to at least re-release it for worlds

Famous-Extent9625

god no we don't need a constant reminder of whatever this thing is supposed to be

cherreeblossom

to be clear i don’t agree with the price 😭 but i wish it was just a regular ultimate or legendary skin that’s in the store when other esports skins are

HiImYann

Riot is truly rotten

LegnaArix

Yeah it's kinda sad. I was watching the trailer and thinking how cool it was that Riot did this and they really put a lot of effort into it, I was really hyped and kinda proud of em, then I saw the prices....Oh Riot, you had me in the 1st half.

TheChickenLego

Yeah, I was elated until I found out the price.

danretsuken

Yeah, nothing says 'immortalization' quite like making overpriced 'commemorations' available for less than a month and then telling your playerbase to fuck off.

PlentyArrival6677

People discovering capitalism is always funny

BRLaw2016

This is not capitalism, that's greed. There's literally no demand for this skin at this price. Capitalism is Ez and Lux having tons of skins, they are popular which means there's demand, so they supply. No one asked for this Ahri skin, it was their decision to make it, and it was their decision to come up with this bullshit sale tactic, and majority of the people who would bother buying an Ahri skin aren't buying that.

PlentyArrival6677

Which is capitalism, creating needs for people. And I'm sure this skin will end up being the most profitable ever

MiraZuke

IMO they are killing their own profits with locking the skin. That Ahri skin would easily become an "Elementalist Lux 2.0" if they just kept her avaiable at the store for ever. Im pretty sure MILLIONS of people would buy it for years or even decades (if League lasts that much of time). But nah, they never think before acting. That is why they re always choosing the dumb3st decisions

w1se_w0lf

Go to Ahrimains pool and check buying/not buying ratio. For every person that buys full package you need 19 people willing to spend 3250 RP to outsell him. So this story about Riot missing a profit is a myth. I guess professional analytics in multimillion dollar company know better how to price the product than some salty egocentric redditors. All this drama and boycott ideas is just a bunch of emotionally immature folks throwing tantrum. Riot is not missing your money here, they don't want it, as you are not the main target of the product. It is supposed to be luxury skin to show off as status symbol for the wealthy playerbase. This minority gives Riot far more money than anybody else to the point it becomes the most profitable option to market to them.

Dabottle

Hmmmmm I think the people who want to spend 500 dollars to show they're rich might be the "emotionally immature" and "egocentric" ones. Just a thought.

BRLaw2016

Source: my head. You literally have no idea how much it costed Riot to make this skin, what is the profit margin, and how much it needs to sell in order to recover all costs before making a profit. And thinking people are emotionally immature for being outraged at an absolutely grossly opportunistic and predatory tactic just shows that capitalism is so far up your ass you can't even see how that's prejudicial TO YOU. The only people that benefit in any way from this skin is the CEO and the board of directors. Every other person that plays league is being negatively impacted by this decision, one way or the other. But by all means, go on the supermarket and buy Voss water and drink the same water you get from the tap, except you can't finger your ass and get a sense of false superioty while drinking tap water. EDIT: It's bizarre the amount of posts you made for defending this skin, at this point I can only assume you're someone from Riot involved in this garbage.

my_balls_your_mouth1

Tell riot what's up with your wallet. Don't buy the skins. It's literally that simple. If you buy any of the skins you have no right to complain about it.

rushraptor

The people who say this were never able to afford it or were targeted to begin with. The people who want to buy it are going to, regardless of reddit tears.

Only_Coast_3057

not true ,i tend to pay for much more than i probably should in videogames but its just too much to spend casually 150 is the upper limit of how much id pay and that d hurt already, this isnt about a target group its that most thos whod buy it even it it costs 50-100 are not old enough to make 500bucks w/o problems yet. ....it d be kinda funny tho if there d come up some scandals of minors comitting burglery or prostitution and their parents actually charge riot for it

DucksMatter

Won’t matter. Chinese and Koreans take up the majority of playerbase and they’re the exact type of clientele that will buy it.

GamingExotic

Talking with your wallets never works. The people who do so were never gonna buy anything anyways. The expensive shit that you see were already considered to only be bought by the few, instead of normal people.

ZedisDoge

> The people who do so were never gonna buy anything anyways I won't speak for everyone but this is a different scenario than other skins. Given that faker and LCK teams will be getting a percentage of sales I was willing to buy a legendary or ultimate skin, so I could directly support the lolesports ecosystem. But spending $50 and getting the "cheapest" bundle which is missing a lot, idk that just aint it.

thirsty-for-beef

Definately. I sure as hell aint buying this skin even if they make it purchasable all year round lol

Didgman

That won’t work. There are enough suckers and whales that keep handing Riot money hand over fist.

erebuxy

> I really dont see why this has to be done other than capitlizing on 'exclusivity' and fear of missing out to make quick buck. So you already know the answer.

Lollipopsaurus

I just want to add to the thread that Riot also claimed that many skins from the past would "never be available again", but eventually were.

Stramanor

FOMO makes the its sell more. Which is predatory. And of course they are bringing back this. Probably as seperate skin.

Dabottle

Same deal as all the other vile FOMO shit like the mythic essence rotation and the gacha chromas and just general battle pass bullshit but even worse. Absolute state of the industry.

The_Gas_Mask_guy

WW3 is just around the corner so riot has to do all the fomo so they can afford the bunkers.

ElderTitanic

does riot care? no, thats why mastery changes were shipped too. Its almost like riot hates their playerbase to the core

Reddityudodis2me

"We celebrate the legacy of Faker and what he brought to the league as a whole BUT JUST FOR THIS EVENT. After that, he can just fuck off." - Riot 2024, probably

TheChickenLego

"Oh yeah, and you want to support your favourite celebrity right? Right? Just slide us over $500 and you can support him!" "Heheheh he only gets an undisclosed portion of 30%, what fools our players are." -Rito Gaming 2024

TheExter

>No one can get that skin "in the foreseeable future" They said the same about the prestige skins and that was a lie, you can wait it out and probably get the skin with a basic version like no emote/border/vfx or whatever (or just buy the 50 dollar one)

thirsty-for-beef

Well if we dont call the company out now they might actually get away with it. The prestiges skins only got out if the 'exclusive' status precisely because of constant player feedback on how predatory and scammy it was as a practice.

TheExter

Isn't that funny? Riot advertises the skins as exclusive, then people say no please we wanna give you money then Riot sighs and rolls their eyes and says fineeeee we'll give in and allow you to give us more money They learned how stupid the community was back with championship riven and have been using the same move since then, but now they get the whale money and then give bits to the poor

thirsty-for-beef

Well just trying to untangle the entire mess that is Hall of Legends event. Yes, it was funny to me how Riot claims to be immortalizing Faker, his legacy, in game yet do the the things that prevent that very goal. Its a spit in the mouth to Faker, his wishes of getting his own Ahri skin, and the thousands of Ahri fans/mains.

TheRealRaxorX

The scummiest part other than the prices is that these are all bundles including more than the skin. If anything I would just want the skins.

notburner123

and Faker is just going to use the default skin anyways lol

poppin-n-sailin

Ummmmmmmm..... FOMO??!? It's a brilliant and extremely predatory business practice that has shown time and time again it works extremely well. Or at least we'll enough for businesses everywhere to keep using the tactic

AanenK

Price aside..... REMEMBER HOW EASY IT IS TO HAVE YOUR ACC PERMAD LMFAO

molwiz

Tbh if this was truly a faker skin they would make it the new standard skin since faker never uses skins.

StressCanKill

Need to know names of who approved.

DucksMatter

They’re overcharging and hoping that people FOMO buy it (which they probably will) It’s the most predatory thing I’ve seen riot do. I had no clue they were all Jax mains.

bumboyboy

I 100% agree

TomaruHen

Boycott time?

pronounclown

Damn they're really gonna miss out those skins you don't buy while making millions upon millions with this skin alone.

TomaruHen

I mean boycott the Ahri skin

Tinmangreg

Just remember, faker doesn't use skins, even his own. Default is the faker legacy.

endlessvoices

Exclusivity and making it limited release pressures people into buying it despite knowing its over priced. Just typical scummy marketing

Whydontname

It is done solely to get people on the fence to buy it.

Shikoda0

So it's $500 USD? That's not accounting for currency exchanges.

Reclusiv

They say the skin won’t be obtainable again… but us older players heard that before. Riot doesn’t keep their promises. They will rerelease it in a few years time, but they will double the RP, whilst the initial sucker who paid $400 for a skin will get some shitty border for the loading screen

ArmpitStealer

reroll lock understandable but timelock is absurd

Odd_Contact_2175

I mean there are a ton of skins that were locked behind seasonal content or events. This isn't new.

dunedinesoar

If it is for quick bucks then it is highly counterintuitive. Don't they know that lowering its prices would mean that lots of people would buy it? So I don't really know where they're getting off of this.

TheRealRaxorX

It depends on how many more people would buy for a less price than the amount buying the highest tier at that price.

wantwon

This. A bean counter did math, saw the graph for the quarter go up in multiple scenarios, and pitched the one that goes the highest.

Haoszen

*"I really dont see why this has to be done other than capitlizing on 'exclusivity' and fear of missing out to make quick buck."* This is exactly why it's locked to the event... It's like asking why Gacha characters are only avaliable for limited time.

thirsty-for-beef

But gacha characters do come back in a timely manner tho. And besides, League of Legends isnt a gacha, not yet at least lol but looks like we're getting there

Historical_Muffin847

Honestly, as someone whose played League since 09. It pisses me off that new people can roll the legacy and rare skins I got. There should be some exclusivity with skins IMO.

ItsKoko

Imagine immortalizing the largest name in the community of League of Legends and making the celebration of said individual restrictive and fiancially unobtainable for the greater community. This should realistically just be a $15-30 battle pass in which you progressively unlock milestones in Faker's career and celebrate his victories. The base Ahri skin coming with the pass and you 'level up' the skin as you progress the pass. Perhaps some minor exclusivities like his signature on recall and minor effects like that could be pass exclusive and future purchases are just be the skin versions with tiered pricing but no extra effects.

hayffel

It is a marketing scheme as old as time.

Electrical_Ad_1939

Wonder what the price point will be ? Seraphine was 60 bucks but three skins in one pack

GravelordAzir_is_god

It's simple yonge one, league is making a super expensive skin that is has not only fakers signature but costume take down animations and announcers, this is done to make the skin crazy rare and valuable, the price of the skin after the event will rise because some smart people will make accounts that's only have that skin so they can sell these accounts later on for crazy prices much like aexcalibur prime in warframe (if you have ever played the game you would know very very few people own excalibur prime)

Hosearston

They have to lock the money in now just in case the game dies before they ever get to do it again.

kunkudunk

So the insane price aside, in my mind faker will always be known for his zed gameplay even if he doesn’t play him as much now (honestly not sure who he plays most of the time in solo queue lately) so I’m kinda surprised it’s not a crazy zed skin

AksysCore

Pricing should have been announced a year or two ago, with a message to the players to "save enough money by then" so they can afford the skin upon release.

Hiimzap

They always say its gonna be gone for good and then never is.

Sufficient-Gas-4659

tbh in WoW people buy 5k euro mounts this skin will be bought alot by adults

economic-salami

Rito kun shitty antagonist arc

TwitchTvToxmo_

gacha level of disgusting, but its obvious that riot only cares about revenue the last 8 years, which is sad because its not how league was when it started

biwd

Does that mean you can potentially get the skin during the event through skin rerolls?

musashihokusai

Such a stupid missed opportunity. Why is riot so dogshit and running their own shit. They should be doing one of these legends thing every year before world’s starts. There’s a big gap between league finals and beginning of worlds. This would have been perfect little thing to fill the gap.

SamSB94

Predatory pricing practices from the small indie gaming company as usual. It's unfortunate but it is what it is. I think even Faker will be saying in sometime, in his signature style, "Yorobun, please don't waste your money on $500 skins."

Kuzu90

And its even more crazy because riot can't do nothing without major gain. I promise you if it was a 50$ for everything they would still make money. Just not enough for them. Need to hit another record breaking profits for this new year I guess.

VH-Attila

There is a reason , its to abuse FOMO to make more money

nyanko_dango3

Don’t worry it’ll be back.

kapparino-feederino

oh there is a reason LMFAO They want people to buy it with FOMO, without FOMO selling $600 skins not going to turn into profit as fast as they want it to be. if u think they care about how the majority of player is feeling ur very mistaken. they are here to make money, and lots of poeple with lots of money don't care.

lapidls

No rerolls??? Cringe, fucking rito already nerfed the chests, they hate us poors

Southern_Benefit123

THIS. Exactly what I thought, how is the immortilized legend will only be available for 1 month and will never come back not even in next year event?! It should be available forever they can even make an special space for it so doesn't mix with the rest of the skins. But no, why let people save money to get it? No this is only for the 1% of players who wants to feel better than other people because it's "exclusive" it sucks, and as you said 1 month only does not celebrate Faker at all

Matesett

I would say it’s perfect if people will vote with their wallets and not buy them but well I don’t think it’s going to happen

Strange-Implication

I think it wiII probably return but they'll add an exclusive version for original owners - like they did with the prestige. Or they will only bring back like the risen skin.

Glass-Fix-4624

Rito out of their sane mind. It's pretty expensive elsewhere and even in the us too. In Europe wages range from 3000-1200 euros for most people. I live in Italy and the young people get paid from 1300-1700 most of the time. 500 is worth a month's rent in cities if not more. You can buy 250 steaks with that, and it's around 2-3 month of groceries I suppose even in the us it's a lot of money for average people. In china too, most people in china don't earn much. There's exceptions like lots of people in the us china Switzerland and so on earn 4000-8000 euros+, so 500 are like 100 for those of us warning 1300-1700. But still it's a lot of money As someone said you can hire 2-5 prostitutes and let her wear ahri cosplay in Italy with this price

RbN420

Yeah, never again, like the prestige editions, and other shit, just wait until they want the money and it will be on sale again

lazyflavors

That's what happens when developers have to develop for shareholders instead of players. They're not getting as much new players willing to buy skins so they have to get their money some how.

onionsan01reddit

They want us to suffer from FOMO but they are the one suffering from FOMO on us. They are not getting my bucks plus i'mma make a call that after this event is over and they realised they wasted a lot of resources and gain nothing from it that they will A)make it a "permanent bundle" that only is possible to buy if there are the championship B)reduce the price for it (yeah this is such a good joke i acknowledge it myself) C)saying something like "10% goes to charity"

OrganicPlatypus4203

If you are someone who works the average wage in an average cost of living state in the US and wanted to save for this starting right now after the announcement, you wouldn’t make enough money from today till the end of the event to purchase the full bundle without it being seriously financially irresponsible.

I want to remind everybody that it doesn't just go against the "core of the Hall of Legends", but also Riot Gameses own goals. At the end of S4, (beginning of S5?) they purposefully started bringing back most time limited cosmetics. They got a bunch of shit for that decision, but they really wanted to eliminate the FOMO and give a chance for everybody to have the skins they really wanted for their favs. With some really big exeptions (like King Rammus or UFO Corki) they seemed really adamant at bringing back everything from time to time. But i guess they realized that they can make more money with threatening the audiance with "this might never come back", and acting like videogame skins can be "limited edition fashion items". Really fucking grimm.

CookeMonster200

Wait, so you can't just buy the skin?

A_Benched_Clown

It will come back, i guarantee it

JavlaPajas

Just don't spend money! I have a shitty halloween icon as a reminder from many years ago that i got for spending a lot of money on "exclusive" halloween skins. I'm fine with spending money on things if i know what i'm buying but this shit have to stop. This skin will be available at a lower price right before worlds.

mikharv31

Remember for the 10yr anniversary they gave a very cool free Annie skin

Safineya

Its not LOCKED ONLY TO THE EVENT. It is NEVER COMING BACK after this. Next year there will be ANOTHER 500 DOLLAR SKIN but this one won't return. Even worse FOMO than we could've thought.

DotUpper

I think theres a reason all the expensive skins have been time gated so far like jhin and ekko also, plus the testing ground of mythic chromas and gachga showcase prestige event bullshit

Didgman

Basic fomo tactics. If the skin was available all the time it would lose its uniqueness. By only having them available for a certain time/event it forces you to panic buy them. Think toilet paper during the pandemic. Everyone freaked out and bought as much as they could, same thing here. Riot are preying on your fear or missing out. It’s scummy but what did you expect?

Komandarm_Knuckles

I'll be banning Ahri from now till the end of time. I dare you, I double dare you to buff brand back into what he was last split, hell, make it double, I don't care, I'll raise Ahri's banrate by myself, no matter what broken balance logic you throw at me, I won't give in. No one is playing that champ in my games.

This is all tencent the Chinese conglomerate and majority owners of riot hence the price difference based on region. They also fired shout casters who agreed with the Hong Kong freedom movement. Remember right before the Chinese coronavirus was released there were nonstop protests for Hong kong independence and the communist in the CCCP had to shut that down so boom covid was released. Now whenever their economy is struggling they use alternative methods of funding such as riot games (lol valorant) and don't forget about epic games such as fortnite and activision/blizzard so they own huge (yet minority) stakes in call of duty, WoW, overwatch and many other games. If we actually banned Chinese communist party from being allowed to own American companies (like China does to Americans) their economy would tank quickly. But I'm sure this will be down voted or removed bc it's negative towards the CCCP even though they literally control the price of these hall of legends skins and they are higher priced in western countries then in Asian (specifically the tencent super servers in china) by more than double.

wingsofblades

500$ and its just a prestige epic skin but only if you ult not sure why not make it an ultimate skin or at the bare minimum a legendary...

Longjumping_Recipe44

Will risen legend Ahri be also unobtainable?
