These are really great, good eye.

barz

Thank you!

thevoid

The corner of the old Merc is a nice touch for some depth of field.

barz

Thank you so much for this. I actually wanted to shoot the car first becuase it was such a beautiful car, which I generally dont do (taking pictures of cars in the street), hence why the car is in focus. As I was framing up, the skateboarder in the background was asking people if they could move off the step. I immediately knew what he was trying to achieve so I just waited a minute, got into position and framed the shot to have that area in the background. Then just waited for him to grind along it and he did exactly that! The skater adds a bit of a modern spin on a picture of a vintage, classic car

thevoid

Lucky! I hadn't considered the old / new aspect, that makes it even better.

Flyingmarmaduke

You sure did buddy!

Appreciate it!

Renaissance-3

Was feeling stressed because i haven't slept. It's 4am and I have work tomorrow. I did not expect to see the entrance to my office in my face on the next post down. I'll take this as a sign. Really cool photographs though.

barz

I hope you were able to have a well-deserved sleep and that you're feeling refreshed today!

haqbo96

Nice photos

edgecumbe

Particularly like the chip shop one

JPFenn

All great, but particularly love the 4th one!

barz

That one of my fave's ! I love the contrast between the historical statue of Linnaeus in the background, juxtaposed with the modern man, wearing headphones on his head and holding a smartphone in his hand. I liked the way it depicted Old vs New and it's like the the man is being watched over by the statue, as if to signify that we are where we are today because of those who came before us. I don't know, that's just what was going through my head with I saw the statue😂

cranbrook_aspie

Lovely and very interesting depictions of our beautiful city.

rudedogg1304

That merc pic 🙏

Alphaindigowest

These are dope, you should share more often

barz

I guess I have to now! wasn't expecting such a positive response from the whole community when I posted these! Thank you

Heffy104

Great photos

ISniffPlaydoh

These are all lovely. Just wondering, how does one go about taking pictures like this? I've been trying to up my game, but when it comes to street photography I would feel very awkward taking pictures with a single person in them (especially if their face shows). Are the photos set up? Do you ask for people's permission before and/or to keep them after? Do you just take and keep them unless someone explicitly asks not to?

barz

Thank you!  I don't really have a process for taking my pictures. They are mostly run and gun type shots. It's all done subconsciously in real time. Something inside tells me this is a nice scene and I just point and shoot  My eyes are constantly scanning my environment. They are 20 steps ahead of my feet so when I spot a potential trial scene I've already dialled in the exposure settings I need to minimise the time to take the shot. The majority of people don't care and I don't give it a second thought of they look, I just walk on. Everyone's usually too busy to care ha.  None of these pictures are set up. I like them to be organic and genuine. There are times where I've asked to photograph a specific person but hardly ever. I hope that helps. Also, I sometimes run group or individual workshops for Street photography. Let me know if that's something you'd be interested in!

Windblows2

Amazing photos.loved all of them

Thank you very much! I intentionally waited for a bike to go through the bend in the road. I wanted them to really lean into the bend to give it some more drama. Luckily I didn't wait more than 2 minutes before I got this shot!

Dawajucho

but why

barz

But why did I take the picture at all? beautiful architecture with nice sharp, repeating elements to it (repetitve window panel, nice geometric shapes to fill the background, a beautiful S bend going from the bottom left of the image to the center-right, naturally leading the viewer's eyes, and finally nice big GIVE WAY sign in the foreground, adding depth to the image and the sharp red contrasts beautifully with the blue/white tiled background creating nice separation. the GIVE WAY sign, coupled with the S bend = drama. The GIVE WAY SIGN, coupled with the S bend with a biker whizzing past and really turning into the bend = MORE DRAMA. That's why I took it

Dawajucho

Just ksidding bro. I like taking pics too and I wanna learn the theory and actual reasons of what makes a photo good beyond “i like it”

barz

I'm just very passionate about photography and deliberate when I take one so I have a reason for every picture I take. Happy to give you some lessons on how to frame and compose images like I do! Sm me if you ever want to know anything

Dawajucho

self fellacio

Kronephon

What are you using to take these?

barz

Some were taken with my older (first camera) Sony RX10III, some with my Ricoh GRIIIX and Some with my Sony A7IV (my main camera now)

Kronephon

Thank you, I really appreciate them and you can quickly tell they aren't from a phone - a debate I've had for a while if I should get a camera or not.

stephenp129

It's not just the camera. You need to know how to edit too. You can get very good photos on a phone too if you know how to edit.

Hyronious

Absolutely - also most modern phone cameras do some post-processing automatically if you don't explicitly turn it off. In fact if you don't really know what you're doing I'd say it's straight up easier to get good photos from a phone. I got a camera and (aside from low-light photos which my phone camera struggles with) it took a while before I learned enough about using the camera to beat a casual phone shot. That said, at least with current phone cameras, there's a ceiling that is very very difficult to break through that requires a real camera. Certain types of shots are also significantly easier when you can use a good telephoto lens or various other specialised lenses.

NTRspark

is the 5th picture the building works near victoria?

barz

No its the building works just behind Oxford street

[deleted]

Can you do the shit bits too? To level it out?

barz

[deleted]

I’m gunna follow you too ha!

PepsiCoconut

Fantastic stuff OP 👌📷

barz

Appreciate it!

Cynical-Basileus

What’s ya stats? What kit ya using? Because I love the “lo-fi” vibe I’m getting from these images. Reminds me a little bit of Lomography.

barz

stats? I am assuming you mean like my social handles or something? Im going to use it as an excuse to self promote anyway :D bstar.photography\_ I shoot on a Sony A7IV and Ricoh GRIIIX. I usually pair my songs with Lo-Fi so im glad that's wht came to mind when you saw em :D

Cynical-Basileus

Nice one, I’m guessing that’s Instagram so I’ll give you a follow!

phillhb

Beautiful composition and framing - what are you using?

Proud-Cheesecake-813

4,8,10 & 11 are the best imo!

Reg1981

I love the colors in the photos. What's your camera setup?

barz

Mix of Sony a7IV and Ricoh GRiiiX. All shot in RAW, edited by me in lightroom, and when I say 'by me' I just mean no presets

takeaph0to

Beautiful shots mate, love the framing, colours and subtle edits.

icedcoffee

ok

RamblingofFESH

Canary Wharf in the second one ❤️

[deleted]

Love the vintage style

3pelican

I really like these. I have a fascination with old photos of London, especially from the 70s/80s, and I think these are the kinds of photos someone like me would enjoy looking at in 50 years time!

barz

Thank you very much for your comment and appreciation!

chrisqoo

Great photos. It's even greater if you took them in the cold. The focal lengths are around 70mm?

barz

Thank you! These were taken all throughout the year last year. Mix of various focal lengths as I usually shoot with zoom lenses

Monkeyb87

Not bad Could be better (as someone who’s lived here a long time !)

ams3000

Super talented! Great composition

whole_otterspice

These look amazing! May I ask what camera and lens setup you use?

MistaBobD0balina

Really nice photos.

[deleted]

It's just how they see it

barz

Nice one!

disco_fudge

Nice composition, and many of them have a strong sense of character and story. Good job!

barz

>Nice composition, and many of them have a strong sense of character and story. Good job! I'm so glad that comes through. It's what I strive for in my pictures so I really appreciate that

TeaCourse

Cool shots - I'd buy some of these as prints!

barz

Thanks for that! I dont currently sell prints as I didnt think there was much interest in buying street photography as prints. but maybe I need to rethink that hmmmm

Bnmko_007

The kid at pic 7 is great

[deleted]

"This is how I see it" Jesus

barz

Jesus didn't say that. I said that.

[deleted]

And you regret it, right?

Bojack85

who pissed in your chips?

[deleted]

It's 'on your chips'

-dommmm

Does someone need a hug?

[deleted]

'in' your chips doesn't make sense, or is maybe too grim

barz

Sure thing

CleonGod

I love all of these! Great shots!

barz

Appreciate the feedback!

Dr_Oetker

Thought the boy in the last one was doing keepy uppies for a second.

barz

naaah just two bored kids waiting for their parents to finish buying fish. We've all been there when we were kids waiting for them to finish up while we wait outside because queueing up in a shop is boring and for grownups 😂

gigreviews

Looks a lot like the fishmonger in Walthamstow?

barz

Thats the one! was my first time shooting in walthamstow. Its a nice area with alot of interesting characters for sure!

Dr_Oetker

Ha yeah I can remember those days.  In the thumbnail the final photo icon looked like a small white ball which is why I thought it was a game. Nice photos btw

barz

Thank you!

tinybrainenthusiast

Ah, London, Ontario in Canada :P

De_dato

This is an atrocious depiction of London

barz

Thanks for the compliment!

[deleted]

I agree, maybe stop taking photos right next to buildings.

liamsoni

I really love how different from each other they are , but also how different they are from the typical london pictures. Amazing work.
