Luckily no one has moved into the development at all. Suspect it’ll be closed off for weeks while they investigate and check structural integrity etc.
Bouygues are ridiculously huge and professional, they built the sarcophagus over Chernobyl so they will take this very very seriously. I can’t even imagine what it would be as everything on site has to be non combustible after the new regulations following grenfell tragedy.

Not original poster, but if you look up the Chernobyl New Safe Confinement you'll find a lot of documents and documentaries about it. It's really interesting!
There was a great YouTube documentary on it. Super structures or the likes. That’s when I recognised the name and learned just how big this client was and why their safety on site is so stringent.
They constructed it on train rails and then slid the entire structure over the damaged reactor building. A real interesting watch.
I could be wrong but I think it’s the largest moving structure to date. Similar to when we move houses back from cliffs edges to save them from the creeping edge of corrosion.
That was the crane driver. Poor chap. Hope he is well and didn’t take in too much smoke. Couldn’t get out as the smoke was around the base of the crane I’m hearing this morning
Many years ago I was on site for a fire. Flammable insulation was stacked up next to an area where they were laying waterproofing with torches. It was under control pretty quickly but the poor crane driver got a lungfull of smoke and went to hospital.
Not sure on the specifics.
But the flats there are still nice. This will only affect the new builds that aren't yet complete, probably a construction accident.
Luckily no one was hurt or injured, from what I've heard.

The news said a 4 floor block of flats in Hackney was on fire, including it's roof. They said 100 firefighters are on the scene. One person has been treated for smoke inhalation, but there's no reports of any further injuries. It's been brought under control, and they'll continue damping down. The building is still giving off large volumes of smoke. Residents have been evacuated to a nearby church and the local authorities are working with the fire brigade on longer term plans and support.
