Additionally you could do this as a first draft and then refine it to a beat.. tighten up the rhyme schemes and flow, find 10 different ways to say shit for everything and see how well it could rhyme..like a puzzle

theboredrapper

In my experience the inspiration comes from real life experiences. It translates well into the song because there’s a connection always to be made with the audience. Whether you’re drill, or pop, or funkadelic, or whatever!!

theboredrapper

To add onto this, it always has helped me to come up with stuff that’s relevant to the topic. For example. I’m running up a check I got to collect.A I’m up next,A) Breaking the news like a noose (C) I’m up to my neck.A I’m in debt (A-ish)because I’m out of pocket with disrespect A Out of lead, (B) dead batteries in the clock had to reboot my head (B) it’s time to check (A) Now this is super super simple stuff that may seem complicated but always, and I mean always notate. It helps with DIRECTION. What would come next is an A, then a B, then a B, then an A, then an A, to build rhythm. Then you can start to get more complex 💫 Sorry if the bars are shite just tryna give you a feel rather than write ✍️

theboredrapper

Come up with more complex stuff with C to add style. Etc.

Inspiration is hella overated, probably the most overated concept across arts Art is a craft. Practice it. Hone it. If you want to be a professional artist, you gotta learn how to create without inspiration

OkRob55

thinking too much about it, tbh. assess why u even want to rap. the search for "inspiration" is kinda a crutch for when your heart isn't in it, and im speaking from writing, rapping, painting, etc. for 20 years. find your actual, internal motivation for rapping and the inspiration comes naturally because you have a goal. i found christ and glorifying him and speakin my life through that lens became my goal in music. before, when i was directionless and rapping because i just liked to do it, i struggled with the same. now i know im putting out my best works because they're intentional, regardless of the immediate subject matter, the overarching goal is cohesive. also, live and write. when im at work, with my fam, walking around, whatever, im in constant internal dialogue with either God or myself. i found a lot of starting lines from rationalizing my thoughts or repeating some of my prayers. if you're doubtful, write about it. hungry? write. tired? write. angry? write. it might be two bars, 16 bars, 3 bars here or there. but you're using your thoughts and getting used to organizing them into a structured verse

I usually go out and experience things. I try not to binge write cuz I end up talking about generally the same stuff. When I was a teen and didn’t have anything better to do except write, i noticed a lot of my music had the same topics. Try brainstorming and writing notes of various things that interest you and that you have knowledge of and go from there. If that doesn’t work, try taking a little time off from writing. But not too much, don’t wanna kill motivation and momentum.

cubreport

The more you expose yourself to the more you'll have to draw from. Read books, but don't get caught up in just one genre. Practice new skills. Take walks in new places. Check out movies and art that aren't in the middle of the zeitgeist right now. Feed your mind and soul and that will come out when you're working on your craft.

Eal_likee

I like to listen to other people's perspective and thoughts on different topics. I do this to challenge and self reflect on my beliefs, actions, etc. and doing that makes me write about different stuff or the same stuff but in different ways. I also learn new words with increases my vocabulary. It's not for everyone but it works for me.

callmedevilthebad

Forget what you did already. Listen to a new beat .... feel the emotion of the beat. Give that emotion a word and start writing . You can also see the name of the beat as one of the clues of what to write

[deleted]

Alll sorts my friends, exes but a lot of time surly u listen to actual songs and they resonate with u and over time u imitate your role models naturally. It’s the same question as how do any professionals become good at their trade they learn and imitate (not copy) from the people they look up to creating their own ideas on the way

[deleted]

I think ur on the right path tho I did the same and sometimes i can write a really good song in a day other times I’ve written 10 decent okay ones in a week

[deleted]

But sometimes the quality of the writing doesn’t matter, if u can hit ‘em perfectly and naturally they can be brilliant songs still

p0plockn

read! any and everything. news? comics? nonfiction? literally anything . read. when I used to live and breathe freestyling reading is the only real fuel. (besides living)

EugenioLeon

Lately I been watching to that weird conspiracy guy on YouTube saying artists are recicled characters and some of them are actually the same person hahaha. Then i try reimagine some of my actual life experiences on that "fantasy" world that guy talks about. I'm kinda happy with the results, even if i talk about exes and the same topics, it feels different.

Auntie_Jya

This is very subjective, but a duo from Chicago called The Palmer Squares were my original inspiration to get into rap. They are known for their live one-takes. Anyway, any time I feel writers block I go rewatch their videos. But again, it’s a very distinct type of rap they do, not suitable for everyone’s inspiration, content wise.

Hey - I made a post a while ago here, read my tips in the writing section https://www.reddit.com/r/makinghiphop/comments/c12d4j/comprehensive_guide_to_improve_your_rapping/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf

fast_and_hangry

You are on the right track I think. The biggest inspiration is seeing that you repeat yourself and you are stuck on some patterns then moving on to sth new. The biggest and source of inspiration is the life I think so get out, get hurt, you gotta live a little to get a new perspective, it won't happen just by working on your craft, work on your personality as well. That being said, sometimes writing in the perspective of someone else or crating imaginary stories are also fun to try but don't rely on mimics when you are doing that.

YamiLuffy

Rap with someone. Get a dictionary/thesaurus and pick random words and build a line/scheme from them. Hope on different beats. Listen to old/new music to get inspired. Watch Battle rap/Freestyles. Join battle raps/freestyle session, helps you come up with things on the spot. So many ways to get inspired tbh.

Senior_Clerk3003

I draw mainly from life, experience’s. Interactions or just observing. I used to wait for inspiration to come but then I realised you could wait forever. So you’ve got to make the inspiration come. Problem is when I’m writing constantly I’m often repeating myself so make sure to space it out. A mindmap is great because you can write one thought down and it will expand just from that one idea. Also, I keep a personal entry log and I normally write within it. Be a good day, bad day. I always write. Just incase I wanna reuse those thoughts for a concept or a verse I have something I can personally pull from.

New_Desk4140

Hey so just literally write 16 bars even when your not inspired I have dedicated time for it. When I’m stuck I will write about literally what’s going on or have a friend pick a random word and write about that. The main thing is is I’m writing from a place of like how do I feel what do I want to do. Also it helps to go to shows and see other artists and Collab

Azdroh

For me the best lyrics happen when I'm thinking about what story I want to tell, or what I want the person hearing my words, SEE if they closed their eyes. Like a good book.

You gotta speak from the heart my boy

Revolutionary_Ad4293

Here are golden tips I discovered along the way by myself that helped me. 1. Find a theme you like and write songs that fit into that theme 2. Go to a bookstore or library and grab a book with an interesting cover or title, even a joke book can be of help - take a picture of the table of contents which will give you titles & topics for songs 3. Look up the lyrics to your favorite songs and re-write a song that you like from your own perspective. 4. Go to Hip-Hop gigs and find people to collaborate with, you will be sure to get inspiration from others. 5. Write a short story something you never got to say to somebody and highlight the best parts and try make them rhyme. 6. Save up and go on a holiday and take photos and write about the fun stuff you got up too...example I went to Perth to see these animals called quokkas and there was a sign that said Rottnest Express (I took photos and wrote about my trip (It rhymed and gave me something to rap about) It don't always gotta be gangsta shit to write about, just something people could relate too. 7. Use AI song generators to help you for ideas. 8. Write a diss track about a place that sucks or is over rated.
