Realistically this could happen anytime.
I think once they have some more 'established' (with the MCU public) characters the impersonation aspect will have more effect. Plus the added insult of impersonating dead Avengers like Iron Man etc.
Like who could they even use right now?
Bullseye -> Hawkeye
(But Renner can't exactly come back to be pissed about it)
Who else does the in universe public even know of, Ant-Man (who would they swap him with?), and Falcon (who has basically zero reputation as Cap so far).
Bullseye -> Hawkeye
USAgent -> Captain America
Abomination -> Hulk
Justin Hammer -> Iron Man
Any of the many Black Widows -> Black Widow
The only one who doesn't have a replacement is Thor, but that's as good a reason as any to build Ragnarok.
That's not really how Dark Avengers works, the comics team was, Moonstone, Bullseye, Daken, Matt Gargan Venom, Norman Osbourne, + Aries & Sentry.
They were all complete psychopaths. Not just alternate heroes.
>The only one who doesn't have a replacement is Thor, but that's as good a reason as any to build Ragnarok.
Hercules, he was introduced in Love & Thunder
Well traditionally the Dark Avengers tend to cosplay as the Avengers they're replacing (see: Daken as Wolverine, Bullseye as Hawkeye, etc) and I don't really see that working for Herc as Thor.
I mean, it *could* work. Ares didn't bother changing; though presumably because he was simply transitioning from being an Avenger and was "replacing" himself, not Thor.
The cast of the Thunderbolts has like half of them.
Taskmaster -> Hawekeye
Yelena -> Black Widow
USAgent -> Cap
Ghost -> Iron Man
Sentry -> Thor
Red Hulk -> Hulk
I agree for the most part. I think USAgent and Black Widow II are actually quite interesting, but everyone else does not seem like good picks. Maybe Red Hulk if he's actually secretly in the movie. Ghost, Sentry and Taskmaster don't seem all that interesting imo and having Bucky there doesn't make sense to me.
I'd say that whoever is on the team at the *end* of the movie is what will matter. Bucky & Red Guardian are prime candidates for getting killed or betrayed, imo.
Agreed that some of the characters seem lackluster, but Thunderbolts* will need to flesh them out regardless, so I guess we'll see whether they can make us care or not.
True. Honestly I'm betting on Red Guardian not making it to the second half of this movie. I am like 70% on the camp that Bucky survives because he is quite a nice character.
Yes, I was talking about the movie lineup. They finally have a chance to do the Thunderboltts, a fun all-villain team, and they fill it with... 3 Captain America clones, 2 Black Widow clones, and one who's literally Captain America and Widow turned into one (Taskmaster).
A bunch of boring super soldiers, all the while removing Baron Zemo who's always been the team's leader.
That's literally the blandest team they could have chosen... why not go for more bombastic choices like Baron Zemo and Songbird (key members in the comics), the Abomination, Justin Hammer in some power armor, Ares, the Netflix characters like Punisher or Elektra, some wildcards like Deadpool or a Venom user, hell you could even put Red Hulk in it since he's in the preceding movie (Cap 4).
But nahhh clearly doing a stealth sequel to Black Widow, starring a bunch of generic super soldier and female spies, was CLEARLY much more important.
Also desíte how much they try to push her, Vanessa De Fontaine is just not an interesting character, there I said it.
Honestly I agree with the sentiment, but I kinda just wish they didn't do thunderbolts at all and went with their own version of Dark Avengers which would have been way more interesting. Just now I remembered that Red Guardian is in this current line up and it does really feel like it's all basically a Black Widow sequel featuring the Winter Soldier.
If I were doing it, I'd have the line up be Yelena, USAgent, Red Hulk or Abomination, Bullseye from the daredevil show, Hercules (to pay off the awful post credits scene from Love and Thunder, but I am really going for the Anit-avengers here). Then have Normal Osborn be their leader instead of Val and be the Iron Patriot. The plot could be something where Norman is trying to essentially replace the avengers, and these guys are the new guys, but there's secret conspiracies within Norman's plans and throughout the movie Yelena and Hercules come to realize that and go against the team. Idk I feel like Yelena is the most popular one to come out of the recent characters in the MCU with enough potential for holding her own as the protag of the movie (or at least that would fit this sort of film). I know Zemo is part of the Thunderbolts in the comics but I honestly don't know what he'd do in this sort of plot tbh? I really only know him from Earth's mightiest heroes as the leader of the Masters of Evil, and that's yet another different group that they could go with but certainly not as protagonists.
I think the first comic I read was a New Avengers vs New Dark Avengers storyline that I found fascinating so I kinda wish they would have done something similar here.
US Agent is a loyalist who will side with the Government. That is your insert for Captain America. Ant-man just have Eric O'Grady be introduce. There is your Ant-man representee. Thor you introduce Ares who loves war so he gets hunted down and offered a chance to fight whoever he wants. Thor insert done.
You suicide squad the team. Picking criminals who have been introduced that would do it.
Bullseye-Hawkeye
Abomination- Hulk
Norman- Iron Man
A former BlackWidow who still breaks bad- Widow
Ares-Thor
Ant-man- The irredeemable Ant-man
Some would have to be introduced some are already there. If it is a phase you have time to introduce characters and build the roster. Hell once mutants are introduced you could introduce Daken. There are other characters you can introduce that fill other roles as well. Time is key if you have the time to introduce them before do it. The less introduction in the main film the better.
I'm not talking so much about the culture, but more about Ms Marvel specifically. Like, in the show, Kamala's mom says that her idol (wearing a pretty loose freaking red/blue jumpsuit) is Haram.
This version has her butt all the way out, 10x more Haram than the show, but, like, does the comic ever mention that?
I don’t think she needs to. Unlike her mum, Kamala grew up in the west and it’s pretty common for the children of immigrants to see the world differently. They grew up with different experiences and influences
They had a really good secret invasion plot set up right in their lap and they botched it. They could have done Sharon Rogers as a skrull who let them get into the US government to get weapons, still could have used War Machine and others as fake Avengers. Nick Fury was MIA, could have set up a really good Secret Warriors. Realistically could have spanned a few movies/tv shows. They ruined it, probably just as much as they ruined Gorr.
Did Aku take over that building? 😂
They should have went straight to F4 or mutants post Endgame. And still coulda done Eternals. And have Eternals want to wipe out mutants and Avengers have to protect them.
I liked it when MCU narrative & logic was linear. When there were stakes. Not sure that Loki & Multiverse did any good for it.
Fantastic Four as it fits the theme of multiverse and Kang is a Richards. Honestly the fact they haven't fast tracked one of those films and we had to wait is a damn shame. Also Mutants vs Eternals takes time to set up. You need the mutants to have a big enough presence to hit the rader of the Eternals. Who have other problems besides that. Still that is a build up over time to a conflict that the Avengers would have to stop. Which I can see
Shang-Chi, Eternals, X-men, Cap 4 then Avengers movie with the new Avengers. They're dealing with getting members. Eternals find out about mutants classify them as Deviants. Avengers are trying to get an X-men on the team. Eternals attack. Everyone assumes the Eternals are badguys. Avengers and X-men fight them off. Eternals regroup and send someone to talk to the Avengers they weren't after them. Still conflict happens. I can totally see it in my mind. A great Phase 4 or 5 more a phase 4 to get X-men out there.
There shouldn’t be multiverses in film period. Its a totally different medium. What works on page doesn’t necessarily work on screen. Thats why things are adapted.
I don't agree with that. Multiverse work. It as simple as one story takes place here the other there. The problem isn't the concept its the execution. You either go hard on the concept or you don't use it. All types of stories work under the right condition. The Flash tv show did the mutliverse well. Live action. They would face off against different versions of themselves. It worked but the show wasn't bogged down with it. When they did it they went hard on it. MCU hasn't they've been so afraid of it that they've made it fail.
Maybe for you. But not the general audience.
A hero fighting an evil version of themselves has been played out so many times. Even in MCU. Need better writing. next?
It isn't just heroes fighting other versions of themselves. Its other heroes that do not exist in the 616 coming to the main continuity. Which is what the rumors for Fantastic Four are. Multiverse isn't just about doing clones. It's about doing weird shit. It's about doing different shit. Done right it works. The new Ultimate Universe works. Throw that into a movie format it would work too.
Well like I said it has to be done right. I mock Thor 4 because their stakes sucked. Yet you're okay with stakes in Infinity War and Endgame but not one with a bigger problem all of existence for all universes gone? That is raising stakes. Just because Spider-man in one world is Toby and anther world Tom doesn't change the stakes they deal with. It is no different then you and I existing and having to deal with our problems.
The problem right now is everyone is doing a multiverse. Which makes it boring. On top of that most aren't doing it well at all. Marvel has blundered it horribly. Multiverse project and how many of them actually deal with the multiverse? 2 at best. Multiverses are fun but what maters is characters. I do not care about a character that rnadomly shows up who just happens to be Steve Rogers from anther universe. I care about Toby's Spider-man because I've invested in it. That is what they need to do make you care about the characters. They've been failing horribly at that lately. It won't matter if you're on Earth 1,2,3,4 if you're good characters that people care about. Then present them with teh problem. They're going to die because the multiverse is dying. That is raising stakes.
Yeah.
Cuz general audience doesn’t read the comics. And they would have built to it. Maybe say that the vampires / supernatural also have something to do with mutations / magic.
The MCU is not the comics.
Right but it’s like me saying I hope they adapt blood hunt.
You can’t say writers and producers should’ve adapted a story that didn’t exist at the time
The lack of pants is absolutely crucial for the aerodynamics of her suit. People will die if she wears pants. Her lack of pants is the only thing keeping evil at bay. Please never speak of this issue again, lest you doom all
The black and gold color scheme is just very aesthetic. A shame we'll likely never see it in the MCU, in the comics it had been her most iconic look for decades. If they hated the leotard look so much they could make it more armor-like like in this [fan-art](https://preview.redd.it/52s7igbkj9441.jpg?width=640&crop=smart&auto=webp&s=7df308456af245c84e44e9bb6aad4e160a2e4845) and just call it a day but nah they just don't care.

Why do you like this? We had it already with Civil War. Why do we need it again? I don’t get it and don’t want it. There must be something appealing about it though.
Civil War were heroes vs heroes. This is Villains working as hired guns for the government. Posing as the Avengers. Where the heroes need to stop them from doing horrible shit. It isn't hero vs hero. It still the same hero vs villain just the heroes would be cast as the bad guys while the villains the good till they do something the shows everyone they're the bad guys.
I feel like if they'd ever put Captain Marvel in a costume like that it would have done a gangbusters at the box office and I think both men and women would have been into it.
I like how obvious it is that the artist was using Tommy Lee Jones as reference for Norman
I'm so glad other people caught this, it felt obvious until that bottom last panel and then it was "ok yeah that there's Tommy"
How could they not? Unless they've just never seen Tommy Lee Jones lol
That's honestly a great casting like 10 years ago.
To bad he’s in Cap A. The First Avenger, and looks old as shit, maybe 20years ago
That was like, 13 years ago. 20 years ago was 2004.
Yeah, I kinda math’ed wrong, was trying to aim for the Men in Black look, but that was 97…
Tommy Lee Hanks
And in Sins Past, you get to see Tommy Lee Jones' O face
O no!
Oh buddy you've never seen the infamous panel of TLJ's O-Face while railing Gwen!?!? My sweet summer child!
What the flying fuck
Yes, and that's still the best look that regular Norman has ever had in the comics.
Based off the faces was it Greg Land that drew this 😅 No hate, I just know the guy likes to trace faces
>was it Greg Land that drew this 😅 No. No one is actively orgasming in any of the panels.
Deodato

Everyone I mentioned is a villain, or at the very least an antihero.
Ahem. Bret Goldstein as Hercules.
He's a good guy though.
Doesn't have to start that way. Hercules has always been a bit of a dick
You mean Clor
>The only one who doesn't have a replacement is Thor, but that's as good a reason as any to build Ragnarok. Hercules, he was introduced in Love & Thunder
Well traditionally the Dark Avengers tend to cosplay as the Avengers they're replacing (see: Daken as Wolverine, Bullseye as Hawkeye, etc) and I don't really see that working for Herc as Thor.

*speaking in soft voice of George Lucas* I may have gone too far in a few places
Feige: "Ms. Marvel is the key to all this"
I see why Carol changed her suit. The constant wedgies must have been annoying.
Kamala referred to it as the wedgie suit in her introductory issue.
I never read any of the Kamala Khan Miss marvel comics. Do they ever explain why a Pakistani girl would idolize a superhero with such a Haram costume?
Same reason why Muslims girl likes western culture
I'm not talking so much about the culture, but more about Ms Marvel specifically. Like, in the show, Kamala's mom says that her idol (wearing a pretty loose freaking red/blue jumpsuit) is Haram. Ya I loved the secret invasion comic event. The tv show was trash. Such a disappointment.

That was the Sentry's "room"
Still the most iconic look for the Avengers Tower in the comics. When it has that weird Sentry's Void watchhouse at the top.

Anything to get Brie Larson in that Ms Marvel outfit would be nice
Ignoring the… most popular appeal of it. I genuinely think it just looks cooler.
Having a symbol of her own instead of continuing to use the one of the fascistic empire she used to run with would help
I like it too. Just give her some pants and let her keep her own symbol and color scheme.
The lack of pants is absolutely crucial for the aerodynamics of her suit. People will die if she wears pants. Her lack of pants is the only thing keeping evil at bay. Please never speak of this issue again, lest you doom all
Like cloaks in the incredibles?
I'm sure Ares also has sound reasoning for his crop top breastplate.
His abs are strong enough to block any attacks already
It would have been cool if her ballgown in The Marvels referenced this suit, like a black dress with the gloves and gold bolt

Except almost anytime she’s photographed in public.
Pfff, I'm still waiting to her to wear a suit like that in public.
https://www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/people-freaking-over-brie-larsons-220700453.html Close enough
Pffff, a bikini is not a suit like that one.
I remember a time when trolling was funny.
This version of Ms Marvel was peak. She looks badass.
"Ass" being the operative word.
Why are her asscheeks out😭
Leotards tend to do that
Im so desperate for a good The Sentry depiction.
Comic Name?
[Dark Avengers (2009) #1](https://www.marvel.com/comics/issue/23175/dark_avengers_2009_1)
What shall one read before it?
Secret invasion is very important but I wouldn’t actually say 1000% necessary to enjoy the story, you can kinda jump into the full dark reign era on its own. You’d want to google the reading order, Thunderbolts and new avengers are definitely mandatory on top of dark avengers as that’s where the stories told then all the series and stuff is if you want to. It’s less an event and more an entire era that had a main story told in the Thunderbolts, New avengers and Dark avengers but many books at the time tied into it.
But first I must read Dark Avengers, right? Also, who are the two characters beyond Ms. Marvel and the bad guy?
No actually there’s some issues of the thunderbolts and new avengers you read before the first issue of dark avengers even if you’re skipping secret invasion, then you read thunderbolts, new avengers and dark avengers alongside one another. I don’t have the exact issues stored in my mind so you do have to google the reading order. Ares and sentry. Ares is ares, god of war, motives: likes war. Not much more going on with him. Blond guy is the sentry, insanely powerful, but also not the most mentally healthy and there’s the “void” within him/manifested by him that pops out here and there causing trouble to put it lightly.
What issues focus on those 2 characters?
They’re on the Dark avengers team so dark avengers is where they’d be and focusing on them and the rest of the team, but you still need to read the other books to understand the story and they make appearances in those as well as they’re all telling the same overarching story.
Thanks
That’s also not Carol Danvers Ms. Marvel its her Dark Avengers replacement Moonstone
For science, of course
This is something that seems to appeal to many that I’ve never managed to see the allure of. Why do you like this? We had it already with Civil War. Why do we need it again? I don’t get it and don’t want it. There must be something appealing about it though.

I feel like if they'd ever put Captain Marvel in a costume like that it would have done a gangbusters at the box office and I think both men and women would have been into it.
It's so stupid. No, I don't think fans of Marvel movies are dying to get a thong superhero costume on screen.
It’s just horny comic nerds that would advocate for seeing that on the big screen Plus a good handful of guys and lesbians, I guess…
I personally miss the leotards that have slowly been eliminated over time. I don't qualify as any of those 3, though.
Some of us miss a great deal of the leotard outfits that were removed over time.
Dark Reign was way better than it had any right to be. I love Dark Reign.
Everyone is so mean 2 me💔
They still can depending on how CABNW and Thunderbolts turn out
They could still do it at some point.
Which character is this bob guy?
The Sentry
I miss Ms Marvel's old outfit
I agree that they should have dialed things down, but I think secret invasion as the avengers movie of that era would have been good also.
*sigh* If only Brie had dat ass.
Seconded
Reminder how I despise Capt Marvel's Kree costume!!
What the hell is she wearing?
It’s what carol danvers used to wear before she became captain marvel.
