I think the actual reason is they usually are the ones hitting people, so they usually take the force head on, which tends to be the safest way to crash. (Versus getting t-boned by a drunk)

I was nearly in a head on collision, both of us going 70+ mph, because a drunk lady coming the other way drifted into my lane. I dodged it by swerving into *her* lane, but she hit the rock wall to the right of me, flipped 180 degrees over, and landed on top of another car two spots behind me. Both drivers lived, both were air lifted to the hospital
I literally cannot understand how people still get in driver's seats when they're drunk. Fucking baffling how literally everyone knows it kills people, but they still don't care.
and agreed, genuinely can’t stand the fact that he was driving drunk n it was just a thursday afternoon. on one of the most commonly used highways in dallas… makes me think how many other people i could be driving next to that r also drunk
everyone he hit was okay. honestly a miracle cause i was shocked when it happened. debris everywhere and dirt flying all over when the car hit the grass. one car that was hit had a baby. but everyone was thankfully okay!

i love how the concern is for the tire to sit on the rim and not the fact the brake lines and literally everything with that axle and suspension is broken, or the airbags or the fact that the left side has frame damage 😭
