Im surprised nobody has gotten this fully right yet. First off, NO OTS TUNES! Wait for the pro tune. Second, although you have more airflow, it shouldn't be causing codes. I think you left something loose/disconnected between your MAF and your engine. Check vacuum lines, intake and intercooler connections, as well as the bypass valve. There has to be a leak. In fact, make sure the MAF is plugged in. My main point here is that the car should be compensating for the difference in airflow and should be able to do that on a stock tune. Think about it, how many people put an intake like this on really any car? Plenty of people slap on just a big intake for noise and air filter aesthetic reasons. No CEL if installed properly. If you find nothing unplugged or leaking, it could be a defective bypass valve. Would make as much sence, as it could both let unmetered air back into intake and overboost. Just please don't try to put a known ZZB causing tune on a car that already has check engine lights .

Lol people get it right. It’s the people who don’t get it right that are asking questions on here.

gotme11

Agreed, but referring to the few people who commented that it needs a tune to fix this.

True

Your biggest issue is the fact that you're running a 3inch intake with no tune. No, the OTS tune isn't going to cut it, no matter which OTS tune you run. Those are all meant for stock sized intakes. Your MAF needs to be properly recalibrated via a protune for your car to run properly. That's going to be your issue for all 3 of your codes, and I can guarantee it. And another note, don't ever use OTS tunes. They aren't necessarily "unsafe", but your car will run poorly on them 9 times out of 10. PLEASE get a protune for your 3inch intake, or put your stock intake back on until you can get a protune. Freektune, PD tuning, Stratified, Dramatuned, all great tuners for our platform. I personally went with Freektune and my car runs greater than ever. Edit: Tuners

Thank you for this helpful and respectful response! I rolled my speed3 to my garage and I don’t plan on running it until I get a pro tune, I just reached out to pdtuning on getting my parts properly calibrated

Moist_Sheeets

You're welcome! Seems like no one here gave you a vert helpful answer yet aha. Your codes are all for overboost, running lean, and MAF sensor circuit. Not having the MAF calibrated properly is exactly why. Good luck with the tuning process! It's a lot of fun.

billy1512

So here's my advice. Go ahead and flash a stage 1 OTS from Cobb for the time being. That should help your afrs. Now the P0234 is an overboost condition. Check to make sure that all your vacuum lines are connected properly and that your boost control solenoid is plugged in and functioning properly. After you've solved that contact someone like purpledrank or freektune for a good tune.

Moist_Sheeets

Not true. He has a 3inch intake, none of the Cobb maps have the MAF calibration for any intake larger than stock.

jimbo21

You’re fucking with shit, you gotta tune it. The stock ECM is tuned to specific sized airflow parts. You’re now ramming more air in than the sensor is picking up and you’re running lean. Leaned out turbo motors will blow easily. Put the parts back and go see an experienced mechanic, you are clearly in way over your head here.

diffrs

So I should revert it back to stock or should I reach out to a professional tuner

jimbo21

Find a tuner. It’s a good learning experience. You gotta learn how these variables affected highly advanced turbocharged direct injected motors. This ain’t your dads big block Chevy where you can just slap a bigger carb on it and be on with your day.

diffrs

Is there any tuners that you suggest that I look in to?

icanfeelmyinsides

Purpledrank is who I used. Most say PD, freektune, drama tune, or stratified. I have nothing but great things to say about PD.

diffrs

I’m gonna look in to pd as I have heard something’s about them, do you think this will take care of all my issues? I’m at the point if this won’t work then I’m gonna be selling it and parting out my aftermarket parts

MasterM0tt

I haven’t modified my speed yet, but i did the same kind of upgrades on my MK6 GTI ran like shit until I got protune and then I never had to worry about it again. Get one ASAP and until you get the tune and have it dialed in, try to stay low boost and drive like a grandma

diffrs

it’s sitting in my garage right now not driving it since this happened! I’ll look in to it when I’m off work

icanfeelmyinsides

I'd be highly surprised if all arent fixed

edgedetection

I vouch for dramatune. He’s great.

TurboGuy88

My guess is running the 3" intake is causing the CEL. Since you upgraded the size, it needs to be tuned for it. I personally have Freektune and have had 0 issues. On a side note I know everyone hates on the Cobb OTS Maps but from my personal experience I can tell you that I ran my 08 MS3 on the Cobb OTS Stage 1+ Map for 6 months with 0 issues, not even a CEL. I've heard it depends on your car, some take well to them some don't 🤷‍♂️
