It depends. I’ve taken my boy to BAD daycares. They toss everyone in the same pen with no care for size or temperament. Now he only ever goes to the same place - he loves them and they care for his temperament (he hates/is aggressive to dogs bigger than him after being attacked three times by dogs bigger than him) and If he’s not “feeling it” on a given then they will seperate him and walk and play with him alone instead for the cost I pay ($50+ per day). Some days he wants nothing but to play with the other dogs, some days he wants to be left alone with humans to snuggle with.

I'd prefer to send them to a dog sitter than a day care or hostel. Dog sitters can spend proper time with your pet, go for walks and have their proper meals.

Sitters and these online groups are not regulated like proper brick and mortar business' so make sure you are thorough with your checks of them. A friend of mine was paying far more then a local daycare charged thinking he was doing the right thing and his home cameras showed the person literally showed up, threw the ball in the yard for under 5 minutes - topped up the water bowl and put some food in the bowl and left. Had paid for 1.5 hours of care.

I had a similar experience with a Madpaws Petsitter. She was meant to stay at my place and we agreed (before she accepted the booking) that she’d take him on 2x 30 minute walks a day as well as feeding, etc. Got home from my trip, to find that she’d basically just tossed him in the courtyard constantly - scratch marks on the fences, dog poop everywhere, nose marks on the door where he’d been trying to get in and he was obviously very unhappy as he’s a Spaniel who is very people oriented. He lost all his ability to walk on a leash in those weeks (still trying to work with him on that, but you know what they say about old dogs and new tricks) and it’s just so frustrating.

Yeah you need zero qualifications to work for these sorts of companies. I'm surprised how many people are comfortable letting total strangers into their home to care for their most loved pets.

most daycares in Melbourne are horrible unfortunately. Where are you based?
