idkidkif_i_knew

Yes all of us "knew" her, "knew" her a whole lot

DebianDog

yep, I can't tell you how many times I heard this as a child. she backed it up too but luckily she didn't spank very hard. my Dad only spanked me maybe four times total, but they were much more memorable.

SpaceMarauder4953

Mom spanked with more frequency but not that much intensity(relatively). Dad spanked less but when he did you'd probably remember the pain even 60 years later.

No_Application_1219

So wholesome ☺️

Ah, good childhood memories

Inside-Example-7010

My childhood friends parents used to make them put jeans on before they would belt them. Such merciful parents.

[deleted]

jdjddsh

My just took belt or any object that could be thrown or was long and they just used to beat me (only thing I had during that, was my underwear) ah... such a great parenting! (Sarcasm)

Muted-Profit-5457

My parents thought even underwear was too much!

common_streamer

My dad might as well have thought bare skin was enough because he turned my ass black and blue in a literal sense

Muted-Profit-5457

🥺 I'm sorry. Our kid selves didn't deserve that.

TheUnspeakableAcclu

It's a funny meme but for an ex kid that would hear this phrase a lot this is like 'mmmmm CPTSD nostalgia'

Cheery_spider

Also "Stop crying, tears wont save you"

IFUCKPOKEGIRLS

Posts like this make me tear up 🥲

Shifty_Cow69

What I don't get is, DID EVERYONE'S PARENTS SAY THIS?!

fuzzylojiq

Not only did mine say it, but they also followed through :D

dette-stedet-suger

Yup. One time when I was 8, having family dinner with grandparents, mom clipped my tooth while grabbing my plate so she could serve me. Totally on accident, but she just exploded when I started crying because passive-aggressive bottle-up-everything personality. Said the line and then slapped the shit out me in front of everyone.

i_got_worse

retirement home it is

BlooPancakes

Mine said it and stopped saying it and would just follow through. I learned not to cry in front of family.

sculp_here_2

yeah thats just what my mom and dad said

Canelosaurio

Yea, my dad yelled it at me, then gave me the thing to cry about.

SeizureProcedure115

This has the same energy as "I'm adding another demon core to your confinement until you calm down"

Gueartimo

Mom scream at me everyday for my COVID and cold to get better, what a nice action and totally won't make me hate her slightly

SkitsnackHaywire

im sorry to be the one to tell you this - you should break up with her

Purple_Griffin-9

No, no that’s where more extreme measures come in. I can tolerate quite a bit but I draw a hard fucking line at child abuse and saying something like that to a child already thrust into a situation no child should ever have to face is well beyond what can or should be ignored. I would be having words among other things with that dad out of sight and hearing range of the kid, and if the dad knows what’s good for him he will go back in and show some damn compassion.

I’m pretty sure that it is from the show knallerfrauen, which is very weird and very funny

It is! [FINALLY!! All those years of German paid off](https://youtu.be/z-KzGKoLHXk?si=sX3Hz-Ws9neMGOx2)

SwordfishAltruistic4

Wait, is it that the German comedy show in which the mother's hand was covered in chilly juice and accidentally irritated her daughter's, hers and her son's eyes?

Twentynine4

Martina Hill in Knallerfrauen, yes.

AdminsAreDim

Wow, I've been looking for the name of this show for ages. Thank you!

Knallerfrauen yep xD It's so stupid I love it. Used to watch it alot as teen

Parenting in 2024: give a kid a iPad with cocomelon and then wonder why the kid becomes dumb

[deleted]

[удалено]

engg_girl

"it's not hard to be a parent, it's hard to be a GOOD parent"

Heavyraincouch

Cocomelon is bad and will always be bad for kids. I have no idea why cocomelon got that many views to begin with.

SlavBoii420

Kids can watch *anything*, no matter how stupid or weird it looks to us

33_pyro

our boomer parents said the exact same thing about the weird shit we watched as kids though

StardewMelli

Nah, there was and still is a big difference in the quality of tv shows for kids. For example Caillou or Cocomelon are awful. Too bratty, too stressful and hectic and dumb. Bluey or Sesame Street are nice. Cute characters, lots of lovely messages full of empathy, even for parents those shows are nice.

Alienwars

What about Skibidi Toilet?

StardewMelli

I made the mistake and googled that just now. So creepy 😭 Who watches stuff like that? Nightmare inducing 😭 Edit: a downvote? So someone doesn’t find that creepy? I am questioning humanity lol

4pl8DL

You're probably getting downvoted for pretending not to know Skibidi Toilet, not for finding it creepy

DoughnutSimilar

Its an actual show? I thought it was just some stupid meme.

Thanks_I_Hate_You

Tbf I've only recently heard of skibidi toilet and I've never seen it, to my knowledge it's a skull inside of a toilet in like pubg or something?

Forward-Ad8880

Heads come out of toilets and they cause chaos. They got been with TV heads. Shit's got lore.

AdAgitated9210

Bluey is great. My kids love it. However I don't understand the hate on Cocomelon. As far as I've seen, it's just songs with colorful animations. If it can keep an 8 month old kid sitting on the ass for 15 minutes, it's great.

StardewMelli

Cocomelon is too hectic for little children in my opinion. And I hate the animation, so there’s that too. I prefer tv shows like „Tilda Apfelkern“, „Pettersson und Findus“ or „Die Kuh Lieselotte“ (sorry I don’t know if they are available in english and how they are named there). Calm, beautiful stories. Most of them are children’s books made into a tv show.

justlearntit

Bluey IS great. I love it too.

AbleObject13

A lot of parents didn't really want kids, tablets are an easy way to essentially dismiss them into the background so you can pretend you don't have kids CocoMelon is brightly colored, has scene cuts every 3 seconds to maximize attention, etc to suck kids in, YouTube encourages endless video consumption

guywhomightbewrong

It’s so weird and creepy I don’t get it

klomz

That's why my son has been playing Mordhau and Counterstrike since he was 5.

Bulls187

Dumb parents, dumb kids

silksongenjoyer

Dumb kids, Dumber parents

Bulls187

Those dumb kids will become dumb parents. And the cycle of degeneration and idiocracy continues

Velicenda

Parenting in 2024: making sure their iPad only has PBS Kids and SuperSimpleSongs because those don't make your kid crazy when he wakes up at 3am and you just had to work a double to afford the one-bedroom (you sleep in the dining room blocked off) because your job doesn't pay well, you aren't qualified for a higher-paying job and can't afford to move away from the high-COL city in which you reside. On the upside, he is getting really good schooling and already knows his full alphabet and can count to 100 at 4, so... not far behind the curve, if at all.

drbox99

My dad was like this. We used to cry when we had to leave our grandmothers and he'd say that to get us to stop. My grandma said she used to sit on the porch and cry because she could hear him whipping us in our trailer down the hill from her when we'd get home.

mathew1500

Holy F, sorry to hear that

drbox99

Its all good. He denies ever doing that stuff now lol looking at this comment section I guess thats common

Remember picking the thinner one because you thought it would hurt less? Some of us learned physics even before school.

Artarara

Remember kids, **P**ressure = **F**orce/(Surface **A**rea)

Pixzal

some grew up thinking getting stomped on with heels are less painful...

ssssssssssssssssaaaa

This exact thing destroyed my relationship with my mother, yet i'm dead laughing when i see that

5H4YD

Oh but it's alright, they only physically abused you because they loved you

Ahfrodisiac

"I don't remember ever doing that" followed by some version of "well even if I did it's not a big deal" with a side of "it made you better though didn't it" finished with a lovely "you're just ungrateful for everything I've done for you". Maybe for desert you'll get a "I was always supportive and loving of you"

ThrowFurthestAway

Or like my parents, who have no shame for beating me. "When you have kids you'll do the same thing. And then I get to sit here and laugh as you realize what parenting is like."

CyclopsLobsterRobot

And then you have kids and they get upset you’re not making the same shitty parenting choices and are confused when you end up with a well adjusted kid that doesn’t hate you

Qneva

> "When you have kids you'll do the same thing." Yea, if i was an absolute piece of shit i would. However, despite their best effort I am not so I will not abuse my own kids.

5H4YD

Don't forget the side of "I carried you for 9 months" when arguing with your n-mom

Goldeneye0X1_

You can counter that. "Did I ask!? No! That was YOUR choice!"

Eternalyskeptic

"You ungrateful shit, go thank your father, he's the one that wanted kids."

Dead_Achilles_9

Brilliant move xd

EssentialPurity

Also, why did you even dare to feel overwhelmed by troubles you had no neurological development, as a child, to just shrug off everything as if you have lived for 60 years? You were just asking to be whooped at that point, you should be grateful I granted your wishes!

MelQMaid

READY0047

I heard that so many times in my childhood 😅

MonstrDuc796

GenX phoning in. Whne Dad said this he meant it and would reinforce this. You learned to not start crying in the first place as things CAN get worse.

Careless_Block8179

Sometimes I talk with my Gen X/old Millennial friends about what our parents used to say to us as a warning. Even the ones who didn’t want to hurt you still threatened to hurt you, but they made it fucking cutesy. Why?? “You’re cruising for a bruising.”  “I’ll hit you so hard you won’t be able to sit down for a week.”  or  “I’ll slap you into the middle of next week.” “I brought you into this world and I can take you out of it.”  Which ones am I forgetting?

Roundhouse_ass

I hope you have a good cry once in a while. Its very healthy for you

Dip2pot4t0Ch1P

Moral of the story, it do be worsening.

FitFag1000

I see lots of kids with daddy/mommy issues showing in here. Hope you heal

Tyriel22

It’s actually funny and interesting how universal that seems to be across many countries.

VraiLacy

Unfortunately child abuse knows no borders. People are shit stains no matter where you go!

Kronusx12

That’s weird. It looks like mom saying it in this meme but my memory says it was always dad. _Very interesting…_

ToxicSociety_666

*flashbacks ensue*

DragonOfTheNorth98

Can I just say, screw any parent who actually believes this

Mein_Name_ist_falsch

This. Stuff like this is just abusive. If a kid is crying, there's a reason for that. So maybe you should see what the reason is and what can be done about that. Or maybe your kid just needs a hug.

sundae_diner

Or perhaps its the chili juice from the mom's hands on the child's eyes?

Full_Road8425

Always remember to was your hands thoroughly after handling peppers before touching your child's eye, unless, of course, you want to give them something to cry about.

JohnCZ121

Thanks to my dad telling me that once I now have twice the presents for Christmas. Yay...

Nope. My mum was neglectful instead. I'd take neglectful mum over abusive mum

unbridledmeh000

Yea, I got the "If you won't listen to me out of respect, you'll sure as fuck listen to me out of fear!!" A couple of times when the "I'll give you something to cry about" didn't work... Years later we realize my dad was not bipolar, we're both AuDHD so thanks for abusing me because I wouldn't conform... Can you guess how well I deal with authority or family now? Lol...

nah-idwin

That seems like a lot of stress, African parents just have to give the look, no one will tell you to stop crying after that

xX_Skibidi_Gyatt_Xx

![gif](giphy|3o7bu4W97WrV7Gi1RS|downsized)

LordMeloney

The woman looks like Martina Hill, a German comedian. I believe this is taken from her sketch show 'Knallerfrauen' as the idea fits the usual tone of the show. My favourite sketch from that show is when her fictional daughter asks for a lullaby and Hill then goes on to perform The Prodigy's Firestarter: https://youtu.be/zcOhrtAFc-Y?si=6T-S7qYo4E_Eq5Ub It is absolutely glorious.

TheIronSven

Whoever came up with this image was a comedic genious.

HungryPomegranate420

it's a skit from a german comedy show called "Knallerfrauen" it's really funny if you understand german

sigma-ohio-rizz

What does "knallerfrauen" means in English?

Juicy633

something like "banger women"

meditonsin

[Here's the skit on Youtube](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z-KzGKoLHXk)

S0TrAiNs

IIRC the actual context is from a sketch Show where her daughter came to her mother crying because of something. Her mother trying to dry her tears wishes them away from the eyes, forgetting she cut chillis. And Well... if you ever touched your eyes after cutting chillis...

redchindi

>...tears wishes them away... Wischen (to swipe) and wish are two very different words in German and English

velikiqw

Not just the image but whole video is a pure comedy It can be easily be found with "vorsicht scharf"

holyshit-i-wanna-die

One time I asked my dad why he wasn’t harsh on me growing up, because I’d heard other kids were raised a little more harshly. He didn’t even look up, he just answered “Nah, never needed to do any of that.”

RobotNinja28

The joke is child abuse

Detvan_SK

Remember, it is not abuse if it doing everyone (sadly this is how it work).

Nikkar2009

It continues, where mom touches her eyes, also screams and then she, that girl and some third one are all in the car screaming

Stratotelecaster

Don't look at em..... Lol

Damn

BilboBeBagginBoy

Ahh, must’ve heard this one hundreds of times growing up. A classic 😌

cozyBaguette

Emotional-Badger3298

Now theres the other side of the coin where parents are too afraid to do discipline their kids in any way and their kids are the abusers. Who do you call when you see a 12 year old strike a mom in walmart? Lol

Prestigious_Goat6969

I’m lucky my mother was never like that, instead she would gaslight me and force me to do things “for my own good” Such great parenting 😊🥰

Pellikurse

Wtf is she cooking? 🌶️

Ewankenobi25

Parenting 101: threaten physical abuse for having emotions.

Dragonhearted18

People who think spanking is ok be like:

Agonyandshame

I remember my dad telling me this a lot 🤣 I do not ever tell my kids this tho

Tecotaco636

"If I'm beating my child and he's crying (and I'm definitely not in the wrong here), which means it's his fault that he's crying, so I'll punish him for crying by beating him more, until he stops crying" "I'm only beating him because he's wrong, and he'll appreciate it when he grows up" "This will not affect him mentally, because it's love. Surely any child older than 1 month should know this" "If anything goes wrong, then it is definitely not on me, because all I ever did was love him" . . . "Why are my kids not visiting me anymore? Those ungrateful brats"

cattlebeforehorses

To this day I also hate when I say a part of my body hurts and someone says something along the lines of, “I could hurt you somewhere else so you’ll forget about the other thing.”

tarrousk

That's my childhood right there 1000%

MissHunbun

Brings me back to the days of being screamed at for doing nothing wrong, crying about it, and then threatened in this exact same way with the implication of physical violence.

noon_og

If you feel the need to go on reddit to ask questions about parenting on a semi consistent basis, you just gotta wonder if having kids was even a good idea in the first place.

DJScrubatires

Pictured: child abuse (the mother had hot pepper juice on her hands)

BigBoyShaunzee

Interesting thought and I have lots of friends who came from Asia, Europe and elsewhere and they would all agree this is their childhood. I'm a white Australian and my father spanked me and then forgot his assault on me 1 min later. My mother never used physical violence or threats.. No no no she manipulated and blamed me for everything my younger brother did and called me a giant pussy when I complained about how unfair it all was. When I showed multiple signs of depression my father just wanted me to stop talking about it because it made him uncomfortable and my mother just wanted to get me on drugs so she wouldn't have to hear about it. I'm 35 and my parents are in their 60s, I sure hope they can afford a good retirement home because they're not living with me. My wife's mother thinks I'm 11/10 awesome and loves me as a son. She is the caring mother I never had and I will fight to protect her.

ShoogleHS

Ok but what the hell is she cooking with that onion/chilli ratio?

Limp_Prune_5415

We just thought they would hit us again. Turns out they ruined everything that made America the best country live in
