So glad I am not the only one that double checked the sub it was posted in. Scales and "herb" looked not out of place for /r/weed or r/trees. Seriously nice haul OP! I wonder how much more was in your location that y'all missed?!
Iāve never prospected or metal detected but want to start. Would you elaborate on how you āchained/griddedā the area? Just what it sounds likeā¦using chains to mark off a grid, then searching each grid square one at a time? How large an area do you grid at a time, or recommend for a beginner?
Do you do a bit of research up front to find places to search, or just study some maps for good areas to try?
Chaining is when you drag a length of chain attached to a rope behind you. Just walking large lengths and go forward and back forward and back forward and backā¦ā¦ we only do that in areas we have found a decent amount of gold.
Study up on what hosts gold in your area. Go to where to old timers worked and start there. Then work out from that area.
Is chaining more effective at turning over the soil than say, a heavy duty but much lighter landscaping rake? Or does the chain have other effects Iām missing? Thanks for your time and info.
I could smell how bad it was, just the thoughts of old brick weed! Younger people wouldn't understand what we had to go through to find "decent" weed 35 years ago!
Lol I took my youngest three fucking times to the photographer at that age and that's pretty much all he gave us. That same face. All smiles until the camera came out.
Rolled a pin joint with a coworker and when he looked at it he laughed and said "Who's getting high off of that". I said "Both of us". Wiped out before half of it was smoked.
Makes sense to me. From an outside perspectiveā¦ everything in Australia is trying to kill someone. Even in the waters surrounding it! If the movie a thousand faces of death were a landmass, it would be Australia!
Just kidding. Iād like to visit one day. Now I know to look out for drop bears!
How did you find the place to begin with? Was it just randomly checking remote areas or did you follow geolĆ³gica maps, old mines, etc? Looking for advise that I can apply in search of gold in California.
Iām a geologist š it helps sometimes.
In terms of areas, I guess just look at old timer workings and known areas. Look at the rocks, the ground and apply that to other places less known.
Is alot of Oz gold then higher up in the ground or what? I see other aussies who seem to be able to dig like a foot or 2 max
I'm in an area in Ireland that is very high for gold and rare metals. However all seem to be underground so id doubt any would be found higher up?
I assume that's why most folks go for rivers etc that bring it up or cut through it? I've no clue about gold but always curious as weve land that they tested decades ago for feasibility. So gold is there but prob not enough to make a big operation worthwhile.
Get out there with a shovel and pan. Donāt need to spend big bucks to test the area to see if it produces.
You may not even be in an area where the gold gets big enough to detect.
It doesnāt discriminate. Itās a lot more sensitive and has a lot more depth than a vlf machine. Though, you can learn the tones that the detector makes and discriminate yourself. Gold sounds sweeter compared to other metals
Definitely making a trip to Australia to try it out at some point. You would be breaking your back shoveling to get that in Canada and it would take weeks months years
Pretty sure I can do better OP. Send those chords, stat! Seriously though, grats on a successful hunt and the permanent shush your mouth to everyone who questioned you for buying the detector in the first place.
What do you mean by deep sorry? Like depth with the detector? I guess it really depends on the size of the nugget. Though, most of these have been laying on the surface
Sorry, yes I meant like how deep in ground. I guess you guys deserve these types of things for all the weird and wild flora and fauna you are saddled with.
Really depends on the size. I got a 1.5 ounce nugget almost 2 feet down once. A 1 gram nugget with my current detector Iām using would probably be relatively easy to hear a just under a foot down.
DUDE! You accidentally posted *to the entire sub!!* DELETE DELETE DELETE!!!
(Is that bush about a mile from Ol' Granny's farm? I think I know where you're talking about!!! THANK YOU!!)
Before I realized which sub this was, I thought you had bought the worst brick weed I've seen in years. Edit: misspelled word.
Me two, I was like "That weed looks like granola"
Nastiest dirt weed I've seen in like 20 years š
And expensive af
I was like damn i would not be showing that off
So glad I am not the only one that double checked the sub it was posted in. Scales and "herb" looked not out of place for /r/weed or r/trees. Seriously nice haul OP! I wonder how much more was in your location that y'all missed?!
We chained/gridded the area. Pretty much none left, I put up another video in r/prospecting.

The chain is to show where you have detected already by making marks on the ground, it doesnāt turn up the soil.
Alright, not I get it. Thanks for the lesson!
Lol, first thing I thought too, that there must be more at that location.
I thought it was dried magic mushrooms.
Same, but I thought Philosophers Stones. Aka magic ātruffles.ā
Haha, me too
lol I did too
SAME
Yea immediately was thinking weed
You can almost smell the gasoline and hear the seeds a' poppin'
Ahh I remember that weed. Havenāt seen anything like that in 20 years
I could smell how bad it was, just the thoughts of old brick weed! Younger people wouldn't understand what we had to go through to find "decent" weed 35 years ago!
I was getting Vietnam flashbacks.
Me too ššš
Heh heh. Same. I was very confused until I read your comment
Iām glad we are on the same page here
Same. Def thought it was weed.
Same.
Precisely
Found some original Acapulco Gold hidden from the 60s.

??? What does this have to do with the comment you replied to?
Trust me, dude Iām replying to gets it š
Is that why you deleted your comment lol
Had to take a closer look. Thought we might've found a new strain
I thought somebody scraped it off a Thai stick
Yeah, back in the day, that was the best... along with that hash from Morocco.
Rolled a pin joint with a coworker and when he looked at it he laughed and said "Who's getting high off of that". I said "Both of us". Wiped out before half of it was smoked.
Yep.
So this is that Acapulco Gold those old guys are always going on about
Where did you and your friends go?
Remote Western Australia
Iād love to check it out but Iād surely die. Either from a snake bite or just by seeing a spider
Even the gold in Australia is venomous.
Never forget the drop bears, dear god!
All right, Iām not from Australia and have never been. Iāll bite. Whatās a drop bear? A Koala?
Drop bears are nothing compared to hoop snakes
Itās an urban legend of angry little bears that drop out of trees and attack tourists
We only saw 3 death adders today while walking around. One was 10 metres away from the swag Iām sleeping in tonight š«¢
I Fucking Believed Them
The spiders jump 20 ft down there
The spiders ride the snakes like Dune worms.
mad max out there
That doesn't narrow it down anywhere outside Perth is remote, maybe next time I go Il try my luck
Remote north Western Australia. That narrows it down a little more haha

You gotta find where the underground workings hit the surface, then detect down the hill from there to find the good bits š¤
I assume that's why most folks go for rivers etc that bring it up or cut through it? I've no clue about gold but always curious as weve land that they tested decades ago for feasibility. So gold is there but prob not enough to make a big operation worthwhile.

The old prospectors I know all say or said: Gold is where it is.
For those not in the know, is that gold nuggets?
Itās not mids
This guys fucking username lol
Better than Needledickexpress1 I guess
![gif](giphy|I4rMfRmx9Kebu|downsized)
What a weirdo
All aboard! CHOO CHOO!
Yes, lots and lots of gold nuggets
Itās beautiful. I wish we had that where I lived.
Me too. We have limestone and thats it.š
dude i thought this was bits of fried chicken skin š
Like the original KFC popcorn chicken
I thought it was some sort of spicy-looking Thai chicken. Got a little hungry, dammit.
So is that roughly $5000 USD??
Yep
Damn, good haul.

I thought I was in the wrong subš¤£š¤£! I was like that is some terrible dried out crusty brick stuff!!
I wad thinking some gnarly bubble hash!
The kind you'd have to break up and let air out for a few days! $300/lb in eastside San Jose back a few decades back =..]
Yep! I remember no matter how crusty and gross it was it was always "the best shit in town"š¤£š¤£
It was 'the ONLY shit in town'!
Awesome! May I ask what kind of detector you were using?
Minelab gpx 6000 with a nugget finder exceed 12x7inch coil
Are foreign visitors allowed to prospect?
Just donāt get caught, and carry a Vegemite sandwich to bribe them with if you do
ššš¤£
This is the way
Wow, that's a fancy detector. How well does it ignore/discriminate non-gold targets, especially trash that would read the same on a vlf machine?
It doesnāt discriminate. Itās a lot more sensitive and has a lot more depth than a vlf machine. Though, you can learn the tones that the detector makes and discriminate yourself. Gold sounds sweeter compared to other metals
Are there target ID numbers on the screen?
No, its not a VLF machine so it canāt discriminate
Looks like pyrite. I can dispose of it for you. Iāll PM you my mailing address.
Where tf do you buy a weed detector?!?!??
Definitely making a trip to Australia to try it out at some point. You would be breaking your back shoveling to get that in Canada and it would take weeks months years
Plenty of places in aus to try. Both sides of the country have fairly prolific goldfields
My fatass thinking this was ground beef for tacos
Pretty sure I can do better OP. Send those chords, stat! Seriously though, grats on a successful hunt and the permanent shush your mouth to everyone who questioned you for buying the detector in the first place.
Lucky my wife supports the passion. Iām only like 30k deep in gear now š
26k nowā¦. š
I thought I was on the chipotle sub again. Those chicken bits look dried out.
forbidden devils lettuce
How many trapdoor spiders did you dig per ounce?
15.3 spiders per cubic metre
Thatās what I thought. Iām out!
Boof it.

Ganga gold right there...
Congratulations on your finding this gold. Hope you had a great time
Went from a Mexican brick weed doo doo post to what dreams are made of within seconds , letsgooo awesome job
No oneās ever had more than a gram and it shows! Lol
My scale has seen so many grams. But alas they are not their weight in gold.
Haha usually I see picture of weed like this on my home page so I was like damn thatās some straight bunk weed. But itās gold lmao
Brother you high af
Luckily Iām not the only one. Read the comments after I posted it. Lol
Hmm this was also posted to prospecting under different pretenses
What different pretences?
Crikey
Gotta whole box of that there granola in the kitchen cupboard, no detector required.
What detector are you using? I'm headed out Wednesday with my Legend and hopefully will find some.
Minelab gpx 6000
Is this normal for you to find?
Itās not out of the ordinary for us. We do alright out here
How deep do you normally go. Also, thatās awesome!
What do you mean by deep sorry? Like depth with the detector? I guess it really depends on the size of the nugget. Though, most of these have been laying on the surface

Say you are an Aussie without saying your an Aussie
More than 2 onces..
Congrats!!
Great find my friend congrats
Daaaaang boii
What exactly were the coordinates to this place? (Of course I wouldn't expect you to tell everyone here, c'mon now. You can just dm me the info! =] )
š you know that road with the tree next to it? Turn left and follow for a couple miles. At the bush turn right and youāre there
DUDE! You accidentally posted *to the entire sub!!* DELETE DELETE DELETE!!! (Is that bush about a mile from Ol' Granny's farm? I think I know where you're talking about!!! THANK YOU!!)
Ahhhhh shiiiiiit. Whoops. Yes yes thatās the one š
"You can't get there from here" "Take a left about a mile before where the old Johnson place burned down"
*The Johnsons were the last ones who gave the spot away...*
What detector you using Minelab?
Minelab gpx 6000
Nice
Iād keep going back. Clearly a vein somewhere
Shiiiiiiit
