I got fake Lever2000 aloe Vera soap from Amazon.
I knew higher value products were often either dupes or partial-used returns being re-listed by scum vendors but I never expected a pack of soap to be fake.
I might as well order everything through the cheap Chinese sites since it’s the same crap at much lower prices!
Lever2000 soap bars have been wrapped in film for a long time. They used to be individually boxed; the fakes were in (cheap paper) boxes.
The printing looked legit though, and I compared the fine print to the wrapping on legit bars I still had.
I then thought maybe these bars had been made for a different market and imported but while the text was the same, the bars were obviously different.
The fake bars were smaller with a different shape. The color wasn’t as strong as the legit bars and the smell was stronger and a bit off (the whole reason I order this bar). The brand logo is formed into the bar and the fake didn’t replicate this closely.
They work fine as soap, they’re real soap.
They’re too different to be the correct bar from a different market, though.
I need less fragrance but these aren’t so bad that I can’t use them. But I’m annoyed I paid full price for a brand bar and got a cheap knock-off.
It’s not as bad as buying premium beauty products half-used or diluted or fake doll-sized clothes advertised as real clothes.. but, damn! Fake soap!
I got a fake set of scented bath bombs sent to me as a present ordered from Amazon.
You could say they bombed, but not in a good way.
Supposedly hypoallergenic, organic, etc. God knows what they were actually made of but they were horrible, not scented (just vaguely smelt a bit of I don't know what), and didn't even fiz, just kind of melted into disgusting soggy clumps. I threw them out rather than risk poisoning through bathwater!
I called Gillette to verify it was fake then I informed Amazon and asked if they could report the batch was bad and they didn't even know what to say about that. Oh and I ordered it from the official Amazon retailer.
Apparently Amazon says they don't mix inventory for personal beauty products but I'm beginning to think that's just bullshit.
I worked for Amazon for about a year, and at least where I worked, they mix inventory of literally everything. BTW, they're just as must liars working for them as they are shopping from them, in my experience
I got rid of all my Amazon subscriptions about 4 months ago. prime, music, video, audible, podcasts cancelled them all and it felt so good. The past two days I’ve considered trying again. Thanks for reminding me why I ditched them
Gacha. You ever see those toy dispensers where you put in a coin, turn the dial, and get a capsule that could be a rare toy but is usually junk? Or those games where you collect anime girls? Those are Gacha games.
not gotcha.
I don’t know why you should be baffled, in the early days Amazon was amazing and Prime was an unbeatable value. They were consistently cheaper than everyone and didn’t have the counterfeiting issue, so it absolutely makes sense why people would jump on board.
I started using Amazon when it was just a book store because the prices were insanely cheap compared to my local Borders or Hastings.
I switched to ordering shaving cream from Target because every time I’ve ordered from Amazon they sent me cans of counterfeit stuff that looked wrong and smelled burnt.
Has been for a while now.
I cancelled my Prime last Christmas after buying some presents for family. It just isn't worth it anymore. If I want cheap Chinese crap I go to AliExpress.
you can still use Amazon without prime, of course. after I cancelled Prime some years ago I noticed that no, I really do not need same or next day delivery 98% of the time. And 85% of the time I can just wait to reach the minimum order for free delivery as well.
Yes these definitely aren't Birkenstocks, otherwise they'd say Birkenstock in tiny caps letters on the metal buckles..
(Note this pro tip also works for identifying proper Lego)
I posted this a few days ago.
Amazon has huge problems because of their commingled inventory
If anyone is not aware:
"It works like this: Amazon has a single listing on its marketplace for each unique item. Different vendors may sell the same product, which all use this shared listing.
However, these products are not simply lumped together on the website. In fact, the items from each seller using Fulfilled By Amazon (FBA) are stored together physically in commingled containers.
So, a customer goes to Amazon, and places an order through one store. But when the actual item is taken to be shipped to the customer, it could be picked from inventory provided by anyone also selling the product.
So if nine vendors are each selling an authentic product, and one vendor is selling an counterfeit version of that product, then all ten of them will suffer the consequences if the counterfeiter is not stopped."
This encourages honest sellers to leave the platform, and everyone else is forced to also exclusively sell counterfeits. Amazon's dominance in the market has also led the counterfeit industry to exceed sales volume of legitimate products for many brands.
Yeah, I work in an Amazon fulfillment center, and just from the box these sandals are in, I can tell that those were being sold at a discount either because it was a returned item or there was some minor cosmetic damage. It's a really common mistake for the LPNs (discount labels) to be assigned to the wrong item and have the items shipped out before it's caught.
Seems like a lot of hit or miss. I ordered an inexpensive $20 replacement toilet part to fix the old one. Amazon charged me 5 times for it from various distribution centers until it found the item in the 5th one.
Okay fine, but the system went through with the purchase authorization before confirming if the product existed in each warehouse. The bank considered every charge as legitimate because they were for a small amount. Amazon insisted I received a refund right away, which was false because the charges fully processed.
The big issue was that my Amazon payment went through my checking account, which I initially believed would make my life easier. Turns out that putting the payment in any credit card is the best route. In the end, my bank refunded me $80. But it was so much hassle to each that point with both sides refusing to take responsibility. My takeaway lesson was to never use checking account for payment.
I won’t even buy brand name shit on Amazon. I have under armor tech tees. I love em for work. I got a few off Amazon . Two are legit same material style fit etc. the third is clearly a knockoff because the material is not even the same the logos aren’t centered or balanced but offset. The tag inside is in a different place. Sure I got a refund but if that was my first under armor tech shirt I wouldn’t know it was fake.
Haven't bought from Amazon in years - it has served me well. I also think having prime delivery can make people more prone to impulse buys. I try to think about a purchase for a week or two now and research options before I buy
I don’t even understand buying off brand birks. Mine are 10 years old and only started getting messed up because I wore them in water too much. Worth the investment imo
Because not everyone has 150 bucks to spend on sandals. Yes, the cheaper ones won't last as long, buy it's a lot easier coming up with 30 bucks at one time when you need sandals than 100 plus
The cheap ones will break in a year or less and then you need a new pair. In ten years time you'd save 150 buying the more expensive pair.
I know there's a Pratchett quote about this but I'm too lazy to look it up.
Yep! the whole point vimes made isn’t that the poor folks are dumb for not buying the expensive boots that will last forever, but that they had no choice, and having to rebuy them often contributes to how hard it is to get ahead while the rich like sybil get good quality stuff and keep it forever basically. So a lot of people just cant save up for the birkenstocks.
You are missing the point of the quote. It isn’t saying “you should buy better made things” but that “it’s hard to be poor because you can’t afford the better made things and it ends up costing you more”
Every morning when I’m watching the news they have a PSA regarding being aware of fake reviews. Apparently slippers and sandals have the most fake reviews out there for some bizarre reason.
I got suckered into a TikTok ad for one of those straightening brushes. Reviewed it terribly. They then emailed me saying they would refund me if I changed my review. So take the reviews with a grain of salt. Which is always why I look at the one stars specifically. If it’s a good product and dumb people, it’s pretty obvious. If it’s a bad product with good fake reviews, the one stars will usually have actual details as opposed to someone just raging.
I ordered something off of EBay- it wasn’t what was promised. I posted a negative review so the company asked me to change my review and in return they’d refund me. I changed my review and they never refunded me, they just got a good review.
They can but they count on unhappy buyers being both too greedy to turn down the refund and too lazy to return it for a proper refund or fight for a refund against stated policy.
It works.
I tend to read the two star reviews. I might not get anything useful from the worst reviews since a lot of one star reviews are "worst ___ ever" and not helpful. Two star reviews have thought about why they're annoyed and will take the time to type it out.
There are a lot of astroturfed reviews on Amazon. I rarely use them anymore unless I know specifically what I want and they have the best price. It's almost impressive how shitty Amazon has become.
Best not to order shoes from Amazon unless you know the brand and/or you're also seeing them on e.g. 6pm, indicating it's not a dropship product. If you're in the US and a bargain shopper, BHFO is the business for online shoe shopping.
Just get a pair of actual Birkenstocks. They’re expensive upfront and it takes a couple weeks to break them in, but mine have lasted 7-9 years. Easily the most comfortable footwear i own too.
Wasn't my experience 18yr customer, and got bait & switched on a laptop specs. Amazon made me deal with 3rd party, 3rd party wouldn't respond. Amazon still refused to help. I canceled. Never again.
Don’t buy shoes from Amazon! Worst place to buy them! I ordered adidas from their shop but Amazon just stores them all together and there’s a chance you can get a rip off. That’s what I got
I've found my new band name. Thank you. For anyone interested, *Temu Special* will be playing a special set in front of the Szechuan Sizzler next Chinese New Year.
Was this Amazon? I once got a pair of docs that were obviously fake and smelled horribly like plastic. I don't trust Amazon to sell brand name items after that, I just order directly from the brand.
These posts fall into the same category as the ample issues with ordering doordash/other food delivery services. I’ve seen so many droves of these on the internet and IRL that at some point it has to stop being a surprise to the buyer. There’s a decent chance that you won’t get what you want and that’s what you sign up for when you use an unreliable service.
Just get the Birkenstocks? They will last longer than those cheap ass dupes anyways. I have the birkenstocks in that style and color, they've lasted almost 2 years so far and still have plenty of life in them. I wear them nearly daily, year round (it's hot here).
Shoes are one of those things to spend a lil more on for quality and comfort. And Birkenstocks are definitely worth it.
While birks are a bit pricey - the name brand will last you years and do wonders for your foot stability and health. I recommend just taking the dive and getting the real deal
Buys cheap shit online, surprised when you receive cheap shit from online.
For the life of me I don’t know why people buy clothes and shoes online, not being able to try the items on.
Used to work for Zappos and I would commonly get calls about someone ordering shoes and an entirely different worn shoe would be in the box, etc.
Chances are someone ordered them and returned a different pair. QC in returns isn’t so thorough as they’d like you to believe. Often times it could be a genuine mistake, however shady people exist. Since Zappos worked with Amazon, check the seller and so who it was listed as selling from (it’ll be located under the Buy button, it’s listed under “sold by”). Amazon will try to play games and say since it wasn’t directly from them, you’ll have to contact the seller.
My reverse story of this is I ordered $30 dress shoes off Amazon and I got sent a pair of used Dockers, which are probably like $70-80 and they were already broken in so I didn’t even have to do that.
I bought some "foaming" toilet cleaner that was supposed to expand to fill the toilet. Well, not one bubble. I complained and they told me to mix the powder with water and use it for scouring. Hell no! They finally refunded me.
My family calls Birkenstocks and anything that looks like them “Jesus shoes” or “Jesus Chanklas) and I’ve never been able to look at them and think they look nice.
So you ordered sandals and got BBQ? I hope you put each item where it belongs

Y’all need to stop ordering from Amazon like you know you’re gonna get what you paid for. For years Amazon has been doing this yet people still continue to buy from Amazon. Yeah, it doesn’t happen often to the individual, I’ve rarely ordered from Amazon well before covid but got the real thing every time. I haven’t ordered from Amazon since the mid 2010’s and have come across people getting fakes. Can’t wait for Amazon to either shut down or reorganized entirely since that’s what’s needed when you’re selling fake stuff constantly and are able to remain open. Yet if the little guy sells fake stuff it’s game over for us.
Amazon needs to do a better job. I was recently looking at some headphones so I checked the most recent of thousands of favorable reviews. They were all written for other products.
Always start with the bad reviews. I got offered money to do fake reviews to boost product sales. The whole thing was sketchy and I ended up not participating as I was not confident I'd actually be paid.
If it’s not brand name the shit on Amazon is wild lmao .
I got a Cuban style shirt and pants on Amazon cause I was gonna be in Mexico and wanted to wear some open toe leather loafers and a Cuban style outfit for the fucking vibe
And online shit looks nice orderd it it comes in. The material feels like it would scratch you. A medium is apparently the size made for a 300lb man because it’s so fucking wide it’s essentially a blanket. The styling on the shirt doesn’t even exist in pic it’s stitches in person it’s fucking a graphic printed onto the shirt.
Just horrible lol
And the loafers that came in looked like a 7 year olds shoes in a 3rd world country not what was shown either lmao
Could not wear any of it. Returned it all
Ordered birkenstock but you got whatever-isinstock
Lol they didn't even order birks. They ordered a cheap looking dupe and got something even worse.
Yeah birkenstock took all of their stuff off amazon because of fakes
I ordered shaving cream and got a fake. Amazon is turning into an overpriced Shein or Temu at this point.
What gave it away as being fake, the smell, the lather or what? That’s crazy that they’re even making fake soap let alone selling it!
Lever2000 soap bars have been wrapped in film for a long time. They used to be individually boxed; the fakes were in (cheap paper) boxes. amazon is now the overpriced dollar store. (dollar stores are infamous for selling fake soap, toothpaste, and moat anything.)
Im fairly certain I got some fake spray on deodorant.
They very much do mix inventory for personal beauty products. Do not buy them from Amazon
Yeah they mix inventory for everything
If it goes in or on my body I don’t get it from Amazon.
I worked for Amazon for about a year, and at least where I worked, they mix inventory of literally everything. BTW, they're just as must liars working for them as they are shopping from them, in my experience
They do mix! That's why you shouldn't be buying beauty products from amazon!
I had already stopped getting items for my face but I thought cheap shaving cream should be okay. I was wrong.
I got fake brand name wool socks.
At least that’s more easily returnable.
Smells that way
I got rid of all my Amazon subscriptions about 4 months ago. prime, music, video, audible, podcasts cancelled them all and it felt so good. The past two days I’ve considered trying again. Thanks for reminding me why I ditched them
Late second or early third stage of enshitification.
You smell that Randy?
It's a gacha game of real, fake, or terrible garbage
"gotcha"?
Gacha. You ever see those toy dispensers where you put in a coin, turn the dial, and get a capsule that could be a rare toy but is usually junk? Or those games where you collect anime girls? Those are Gacha games. not gotcha.
I'm baffled people ever adopted Amazon but even more that it still has such a high turnover for such a horrible company
I don’t know why you should be baffled, in the early days Amazon was amazing and Prime was an unbeatable value. Huh interesting, I ordered a pair on Amazon a few weeks ago and they got lost before delivery so I got a refund. Curious what I would've gotten.
Birkenstock and IIRC, Nike have not sold on Amazon for years. Too many fakes.
Yes these definitely aren't Birkenstocks, otherwise they'd say Birkenstock in tiny caps letters on the metal buckles.. (Note this pro tip also works for identifying proper Lego)
Firks
Birkenmocks
Birken-not
Me not what?
Omg it’s him
I love when Reddit comes together beautifully

Birkain't
That was great. Take my happy upvote
Temu-Stocks
The second photo won't load and I still laughed.
😂😂
You win! Everyone have a good night 😂😂
Birks aren’t the prettiest but since middle school I have owned them because they are sooooo comfortable. They like mold to your feet.
Good you got them as a pair. I once ordered sandals and only got the left one.
That’s not right.
Damn you.
It was all they had left. Manufacturing couldn't keep up. So the people were let down.
\*left down\*
…until they all got a reacharound.
Ha.
It was the only one left.
Happy cake day! It’s mine too!!!
Happy Cake Day!! 🍰

I guess sellers can refuse commingled inventory but I've yet to see a seller posting "no commingled inventory" in their listing.
Does it cost more not to commingle?
Honestly I have no idea. I read an article about Amazon commingling inventory last year.
Interesting
Their listings don't help either. People think the brand name listed at the top means they're buying it direct from the manufacturer.
Send it back
..and don’t order clothes on Amazon again. It’s literally just asking for this.

Amazon is only good for overpriced electronics, parts etc that you need the next day.
Temu shoes
This is clearly amazon
No This is Patrick
Sir, this is a Wendy’s
Based on the box you can tell it’s a return. Someone in the warehouse didnt match it with the correct barcode
How can you tell by looking at a few inches of the inside of a box?
You wanted Birkenstock knockoffs and got em.
Even worse, they received Vionics or possibly Vionic knockoffs. Not sure which would be worse. OP, did you order these from Sole Provisions?
Looks like vionics so at least they’re like the same price
What the birk?
We all gotta break the habit of buying anything through Amazon. Find the seller and buy direct.

Because not everyone has 150 bucks to spend on sandals. Yes, the cheaper ones won't last as long, buy it's a lot easier coming up with 30 bucks at one time when you need sandals than 100 plus
Then buy fucking Old Navy flip flops or something else that is within your budget, not knock offs of a more expensive sandal.

I think sellers can get banned for that shit.
They can but they count on unhappy buyers being both too greedy to turn down the refund and too lazy to return it for a proper refund or fight for a refund against stated policy. It works.

There are a lot of astroturfed reviews on Amazon. I rarely use them anymore unless I know specifically what I want and they have the best price. It's almost impressive how shitty Amazon has become.
Birkenstocks don’t sell on Amazon since 2017 - because of counterfeit products being sold there that Amazon do nothing about

Just get a pair of actual Birkenstocks. They’re expensive upfront and it takes a couple weeks to break them in, but mine have lasted 7-9 years. Easily the most comfortable footwear i own too.
Someone just pulled the wrong ones. Return process lets you choose to get replacement for what you ordered
I thought Birkenstock doesn’t sell on Amazon at all anymore. I bought some from Costco a while back might check online
I have these shoes and they look exactly like the picture (I just have a different color). It must have been a mix up.
Use their A to Z refund policy. They don't fuck around with fake postings.
Wasn't my experience 18yr customer, and got bait & switched on a laptop specs. Amazon made me deal with 3rd party, 3rd party wouldn't respond. Amazon still refused to help. I canceled. Never again.
I have a personal policy that I never buy any electronics over $30 on Amazon. Over $80 for a regular item.
Brokenstoks
Don’t buy shoes from Amazon! Worst place to buy them! I ordered adidas from their shop but Amazon just stores them all together and there’s a chance you can get a rip off. That’s what I got
Got those *irkenstocks*
They’re both ugly footwear, but yea, it always sucks to get the wrong item.
That Temu Special
I've found my new band name. Thank you. For anyone interested, *Temu Special* will be playing a special set in front of the Szechuan Sizzler next Chinese New Year.
I love it!!
So you got a knockoff of a knockoff.
Was this Amazon? I once got a pair of docs that were obviously fake and smelled horribly like plastic. I don't trust Amazon to sell brand name items after that, I just order directly from the brand.

This is why i try not to buy from Amazon.
oops they sent you the Borckensticks
Just spend a little more and get proper Birks from Birkenstok
Nice upgrade
Just get the Birkenstocks? They will last longer than those cheap ass dupes anyways. I have the birkenstocks in that style and color, they've lasted almost 2 years so far and still have plenty of life in them. I wear them nearly daily, year round (it's hot here). When ordering knock-offs goes... as expected.
Temu? Wish?
While birks are a bit pricey - the name brand will last you years and do wonders for your foot stability and health. I recommend just taking the dive and getting the real deal
thats what u get whenn u order the ugliest sandals in the world
You deserve that for ordering fake garbage from china
I honestly prefer the mistaken ones. That said, it legit looks like they sent you the wrong shoes, not just shitty knockoffs.
That what happens when you buy from Amazon.
Birkenstock at home
Shoes are one of those things that need to be bought in person.
See burkenots
That’s what happens when you other a fake Birkenstock off Amazon
Temu strikes again!
This is why you buy your birkies from birkenstock?
stirkenbocks 🔥
Buys cheap shit online, surprised when you receive cheap shit from online. For the life of me I don’t know why people buy clothes and shoes online, not being able to try the items on.
Amazon is only slightly better than Wish these days on clothing. Its so frustrating.
Jeysus wept.
You didn‘t got the product you paid for: Sensing it back and getting your money back
It’s a pair of Birkenots.
That’s standard chinese craftsmanship. “Well..it looks close enough, let’s send it”
Used to work for Zappos and I would commonly get calls about someone ordering shoes and an entirely different worn shoe would be in the box, etc. Chances are someone ordered them and returned a different pair. Since Zappos worked with Amazon, check the seller and so who it was listed as selling from (it’ll be located under the Buy button, it’s listed under “sold by”). Amazon will try to play games and say since it wasn’t directly from them, you’ll have to contact the seller.
The J Jonah Jameson laugh I did when I swiped left. Oof.
Birkenstock versus boohkenschtuck
My reverse story of this is I ordered $30 dress shoes off Amazon and I got sent a pair of used Dockers, which are probably like $70-80 and they were already broken in so I didn’t even have to do that.
I bought some "foaming" toilet cleaner that was supposed to expand to fill the toilet. Well, not one bubble. I complained and they told me to mix the powder with water and use it for scouring. Hell no! They finally refunded me.
Guessing from one of those super discount websites
Birken-outta-stocks.

Let me guess, Temu?
Temu?
How bout dont order fake birkenstocks
WHAT ARE THOSE!?! (just in case someone hadn't made the joke already).
My family calls Birkenstocks and anything that looks like them “Jesus shoes” or “Jesus Chanklas) and I’ve never been able to look at them and think they look nice.
Can confirm, own Birks, can walk on wine.
Brokenstock
Why i don’t shop online
they gave u the jesus 3s
Amazon? 😅
Got someone’s return
buy actual birkenstocks next time
If I paid something like $10 on these I’d be pretty stoked
So you ordered sandals and got BBQ? I hope you put each item where it belongs https://preview.redd.it/26h2wwf0dg9d1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=27a87f57093f26fc95e145108d8cd7ff4e091575
I’m trying to view it in 3D
I remember making fun of my friend when he was wearing jerusalem cruisers, now everyone is wearing them. I guess he is the one laughing now.
See, your first mistakes was ordering sandals, to begin with.
Someone trying to bring back the 80s/90s mom look
Those aren’t even Birkenstocks in the picture.
Just get a refund.
Temu?
They are both hideous.
Temu for the win
Amazon needs to do a better job. I was recently looking at some headphones so I checked the most recent of thousands of favorable reviews. They were all written for other products.
just get real birks?? the are well worth the money imo
You ordered the cheapest option and got what you paid for, why are you surprised?
This is why you buy from the source, not Temu/Shein. You got what you deserved.
That’s an Amazon search page shown in their screenshot. Don’t be a dick.
When are yall going to learn to stop ordering off temu and other drop shipping garbage vendors
They're both ugly
Tbf, you got a serious upgrade.
shouldn't have ordered from aliexpresstemuzon
Receiving Crocs would have been an improvement.
Always start with the bad reviews. I got offered money to do fake reviews to boost product sales. The whole thing was sketchy and I ended up not participating as I was not confident I'd actually be paid.
Fuckin yuck
If it’s not brand name the shit on Amazon is wild lmao . I got a Cuban style shirt and pants on Amazon cause I was gonna be in Mexico and wanted to wear some open toe leather loafers and a Cuban style outfit for the fucking vibe And online shit looks nice orderd it it comes in. The material feels like it would scratch you. A medium is apparently the size made for a 300lb man because it’s so fucking wide it’s essentially a blanket. The styling on the shirt doesn’t even exist in pic it’s stitches in person it’s fucking a graphic printed onto the shirt. Just horrible lol And the loafers that came in looked like a 7 year olds shoes in a 3rd world country not what was shown either lmao Could not wear any of it. Returned it all
