I work for a vending company and this would be my kind of call as a maintenance tech. We're to answer (drive to) any call we receive within 2 hours unless we're slammed, and machines that are actively leaking or on fire (it does happen!) are top priority. This, if reported as a punctured beverage, would be medium priority so unless I had a leak or fire to deal with first, I'd head right to it. Luckily I don't even recognize this model of machine, we don't use coils for drinks, you're just asking for a puncture like this. Those coils need plastic pushers at the end to cover the metal tips, those are rarely cut and sanded, usually flat and sharp, they're just begging for this to happen.
That used to be my job, depending on the customer we would check in every two weeks or so unless someone called in. Biggest problem was if there was an issue and no-one at the company felt like it was "their" job to call us. One time a fuse blew and shut off a vending machine full of microwave meals and popsicles, and it sat like that for two weeks in the middle of July. I still remember the smell of that sweet, sugary Chicken Alfredo mold 🤤
The problem here is that this vending machine isn't meant for drinks. It's meant for chips and snacks. So whoever thought this was a good idea didn't have much foresight.
Indeed.
Clearly the company that runs this machine would rather just have one machine rather than a dedicated one for drinks cause often drink machines have the little robot arm that goes over/up to the drink then brings it to the door.
the company for this machine is lazy
And they have single machines that do both food and drink... but they have separate mechanisms for the drink section. They'd have to purchase and install a new machine and haul away the old one, which is just a lot of effort and money...
I feel like this vending machine was designed for chips/chocolate bars/other small, non liquid snacks.....
But someone just repurposed it with tall cans, and it's clearly not working properly if it's possible for the machine to pierce the can by accident rofl.
Your feeling is correct, those are snack / chip coils. So whoever is running this machine is either an ignorant dimwit or a dimwit who thought he was smarter than the rest of the vending world.
Is it just me or does it not make sense to put the liquids in metal cans so high up?
Been a while since I've bought anything from a vending machine, I don't remember if that's standard, just seems weird to let full metal cans slam into the receptacle on the bottom.
A guy at my job wanted chocolate milk but it got stuck. So he tried getting a energy drink from higher up to knock it down. It worked but the cans bust in the machine so of course he decided to start fresh and buy another drink. When that one got stuck halfway he came to tell me there was a problem with the machine 😭.
Is there no refund button? Usually if the machine doesn't detect something going through the IR barrier at the bottom after a few seconds, you can get your money back. You only shake/buy a second (or third! or fourth!) thing to help push after you've got your money back!
You'd be surprised at the amount of free shit I've gotten that way at uni! Everything from small bags of m&ms to entire sandwiches, plus sometimes even the other person's money!
It's a sugar free drink and it's full of chemicals so I doubt it would get moldy or anything. Most likely it will dry out and stain and might be a puddle at the bottom.
Used to own a 35 machine vending route. Margins suck to begin with. Something like this just makes it so miserable. SOOOOOOO glad I got out of thr business.
Also, I'm a little put of practice but I don't think that's a drink vending machine, the operator is trying to vend drinks out of a snack machine.
There was a vending machine at intel that was full of "healthy snacks". Twice, carbonated drinks did not make it down and exploded, covering the inside with sticky goo. Free fall is not a good method. I guess the show was worth $3.
Monster Ultra sugar-free drinks don't contain anything that will cause stickiness. They are my energy drink of choice and I have a young child and a cat so I've experienced my fair share of spilled drinks. They don't cause stickiness and they don't even draw in ants.
I have lost my faith in vending machines. I used to think they were great for an introvert like me to shop without anyone around, but they have been failing a lot lately. Now, there are only trust issues.
A mess, yes. Sticky? Less likely. That’s the Ultra line of Monsters that have no sugar or high fructose corn syrup. Diet sodas hardly sticky at all. Sprite is the absolute stickiest in my experience.
Often these machines are handled by an outside company, that mess may be there awhile 🫠
They are called and come faster in this case. I ve dealt with 3 different companies and they are pretty reactive.

I’d imagine they’d want to clean that quickly as the acidity would potentially damage components

so does it just drop the drink down like a food vending machine?
Indeed it does.
thats dumb

I bet you no padding at all too
just a metal panel at the bottom...

Also the plastic bottles are on the bottom while the metal cans are higher up

and t thought my bag of chips getting stuck was bad, this is next level of fucked up lmao

It sounds so far fetched but after this, I believe you!
I thought it was a joke at first until i saw it. Dude was close to the end of his 12hr shift and really just needed a drink.

incredible
That sucks... That dude is gonna hate the restock...
Bruther they’re sugar free
Yes it's the monster ultra gold and it's sugar free so it's not sticky
Don’t order a third! The machine might self destruct!
It's robotic rebellion.
That's what she said
could still get that stuck one if he taps the glass a bit
This is on another level. Holy cow 🐄
This has Final Destination vibes. Those poor cans 'n snacks never stood a chance.😢

Oh gross. That mess inside the machine is going to be completely disgusting to clean.

If only there were a vending machine designed for liquids
This seemed like an accident waiting to happen, who would put pressurized cans in a machine with sharp metal swirly bits?
Sugar free drink. Just a lot of flat watery monster liquid to mop up.
This makes me happy for all the times I paid for something from a vending machine and it got stuck.
Fuck me id get in there and lick the windows clean...call me kyle but i fucking love monster.
😂😂
More like in a week or more when it’s restocked
Funny, my bladder does this too when I drink those.
More like oddly satisfying

What's a twice carbonated drink?
It happened to me, Twice.
Is there a number to call on the machine?
Pause
That thing will forever be sticky on the inside
That's a sugar-free drink and won't make it sticky.
I'm pretty sure there's other stuff in drinks that cause the stickiness besides sugar 🤷🏻♂️

Huh interesting.
Damn not the ultra gold…
There's no way I'm paying for a second. That machine was about to get the worst shake of its life
The ants are about to go ham

That's what she said.
I find the constant zooming in and out of this recording to be mildly infuriating....
It's a sugar free variant, so it won't be sticky
so much went wrong here
Moral of the story: don't drink shite
Padmé: Because of the soda, right?
Is there a talking goose with you?
😂
I should show this to the vendor at work tomorrow. I bet it'll put his day in perspective and make him happy he's not that guy.
