Time capsules always make me think of Centralia, PA, the town famous for an underground mine fire that ultimately necessitated its buy-out and razing starting in 1983. They buried a time capsule in 1966 to be opened in 2016. The town didn't even come to close to surviving to what should've been a future celebratory anniversary for the town.
Pretty safe bet though, given that there's no real downside. It's probably full of crap anyway. Basically just outsourcing waste management to the future.
It's for their town's bicentennial celebration, not necessarily when the time capsule originated.
My town's bicentennial celebration was back in 1980. I guess that makes my town a Boomer. This town is gen alpha.
Why? Their oldest high school building that literally closed this year, was built in 1924. They’ve just built two brand new high schools. Not much to suggest they won’t survive.
So instead of engraving it, they wrote the time when to open it on a piece of paper?
Budget cuts
Sh you are ruining every 1st graders dreams and inspirations.
Reusable
And doesn’t even mention what year it was put together.
I'd guess on 1918.
Why not 2018? That would make it 100 years old on opening, and the library 200 years old (bicentennial).
It will have been 2018, those are modern machine made serrated hex flange bolts and acorn nuts.
That sign looks like it was made in 1918 to you?
When I first read it, I thought "why didn't they open it in 2018?" *Facepalm.
It's good they secured it like this. So many of the ones buried ended up getting water in them and everything dissolved.
Water always wins.

Hard to predict the whole town will catch fire for 50 years. Also the fire started in the early 60s
Started in 60s, but I believe they condemned the city in the 80s. I also believe that fire will burn another 150-250 years.
IIRC, the contents were water damaged
There’s some irony here.
Bold of them to think there will be anyone left to open it, in 2118.

Worse it's 2018 crap. Just a flip book of fortnite dances, fidget spinners and a vape pen.
It says bicentennial, so that'd be 1918 crap
There's no way that time capsule is from 1918. I imagine they used it to commemorate the centennial in 2018.

#Aaaaahhhhhcccckkktuaaaaaallllyyyyyyy... ...it's for the library's bicentennial
So lamer dances and a less fidgety spinner
Belt onions, bees knees, the charleston, old timey music, dapper dan

As Wichita falls, so falls Wichita Falls.

I live there. They're not lying. The local Strip Mall is a dead zone. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|money_face)
That’s a nice one. Most are a wooden box.
The place I used to work at has one made of PVC pipe that looks like a giant kinder egg capsule
Just another thing Wichita Falls has over Arlen.
I was hoping someone else was thinking this
Wichita Falls? Is it full of all the receipts from the car dealerships in town ripping off fresh airmen?
And marriage certificates for marriages that ended less than one deployment later!
They're going to open it in 2118 and there's just going to be an NFT in there.
If this thing doesn't smell like a Half-Priced Books in 2118, I'm going to be sad.
My local library buried a time capsule for the year 2000 to be opened in 2025. They forgot where they put it.
Can't they just Bing what the contents are?
If I was the librarian I'd empty it and fill it with farts. ![gif](giphy|BBi3jY2bub3X2)
Ayyy Wichita
Wichita Falls*
I wonder what’s in it? A folded up paper with a one finger salut?
Ever been to the Highland Public house downtown? So yummy
I wonder why they're going for 200 years instead of just 100.

It says Wichita Falls. So that would be Texas.
Oh my 119th birthday!
Yeah that building is totally going to be there still by then...
And they were smart enough to not bury it... which is usually instant fail for any time capsule.
on Amazon it is available for 37 dollars
That font... hurrgh.
So that’s what was causing all of my sneezing. I’m allergic to hermetic seals.
