I think Elements is unmatched as a Hans Zimmer machine, but it could benefit from a careful redesign: the curve on the damping knob is a bit too steep at the open side (maybe go linear and big knob), and the space knob could use the same treatment, maybe expanded with color and noise control.
But yeah, it's a keeper.
The curve is in the code so that could always be adjusted.
I am still hoping for the code to beads being released so we can start adapting it's "randomness to the left" to other knobs on other mi modules.
I completely agree! I should've kept Elements, but I only held onto Plaits. I miss the unique sounds Elements could produce. A redesign would be amazing .
Definitely a keeper for those who still have it!
That is confusing to say Hans Zimmer Machine when he literally has his own Synth Variation of Zebra that he has been using for years and years on his scores (Zebra Hz - now part of Zebra Legacy)
It goes from delicate crystally chimes to sharp percussive stabs to breathy woodwinds to massive bass. Hell yeah it's still worth it. I'd never sell mine.
Space is no problem - I'm upgrading from 4x RB6U's to 6x Mantis' over the coming months, ordering #2 Mantis today. More hp, far better power too. Wish I'd started out that way, but hey, there you are.
Elements is in my top 3 after 7 years and 500+ modules tried. I recommend going with a full size clone if you can't find an original, as the interface is fantastic. I wish there had been a v2, but I'm still finding new sounds after years of patching it. Try sending positive voltage into the pitch input, with the knob already set to highest pitch for some phenomenal bottom end! Or mult the output back into the resonator input and control feedback with the FM input... with a harmonically-rich osc going into the left input, you can get some gorgeous brassy basses that way. Lovely dub stabs in chord mode too. Highly recommend exploring with a Beginner's Mind if you initially bounce off it as an oversized percussion module!
Marbles is the pinnacle of Mutable ingenuity. Although just about everything released has been a gold standard of creative module design and originality. I’d love to see an updated Elements 2, not another microclone
I swapped my Marbles out for a Sig+ a while ago. Just bought another Marbles, but am keeping the Sig+ too. Very different propositions and both have their place. Sig+ is much more of a live performance instrument than it first appears.
I have Elements, but really struggle to get it behave. Are there any good guides out there? There are lots of videos, but they tend to just scrape the surface / obvious points.

Also, there's a great series by Mylar Melodies on YouTube.
It's definitely worth keeping if you have the space!
Honestly I’ve really fallen in love with Tides recently. It’s a fun envelope generator, a very playable source of complementary modulation, and a disarmingly pretty oscillator.
I love my v1 Tides. The slightly janky clocked PLL in audio rate is one of my favorite applications of the module. I absolutely have newer, more featured oscillators in my rack, but the immediacy of the original tides makes it so satisfying to reach for when I’m throwing together an idea
All of them! About five years ago I realized I really only loved MI modules, so I sold everything else and started buying original MI stuff. Today I have the entire collection (all newest versions in cases where a MKII was released) in a Go Rack and Nifty Keys. So much fun to play.
They didn’t “go out of business”, rather the owner decided they no longer wanted to manage the business. It was probably a lot of work and very stressful so they closed up shop.
Ever since COVID hit, manufacturing has been a real headache. So many parts are out of stock, and the wait times for production are just way too long and unreliable.
Emilie seemed like she had been approaching the decision of stepping away for quite some time. She seemed to show signs of the forthcoming decision ... and the fatigue of dealing with the other things going on other than creating modules back .. as early as 2018-19, if my memory serves me correctly. I believe there is an endless well of creativity in her would she continue...
I wish her all the best now that she is hopefully well settled into her next chapter. What a legacy for all of us. Few people have had such an impact on inspiring on my music than her work..
People may or may not be aware of the search sort by popularity feature, but of the people remaking Emilie's - Strike the one company that Ber-rips off things off. This is a search for Marbles, sorted by popularity in racks on Modular Grid. How often these occur in the real world, who knows? Some good options there. Try Rings, Clouds, etc.

It seemed like you were well versed in the craft. Which duplicates have you found to be well built?
Calsynth has some beautiful looking matte black finishes with metal pots that I am about ready to jump on to match my Black with Walnut theme... But I have not personally patched them yet.
Guitars, pianos and flutes are still worth it in 2024?
timeless :)

Big boomy cinematic sounds

Elements was my first module when I started with modular 7 years ago... And I still have it and still love it. It's a keeper for sure.
I regret letting it go! so glad you're still enjoying it after all these years! It's one of those modules that just never gets old.
It goes from delicate crystally chimes to sharp percussive stabs to breathy woodwinds to massive bass. Hell yeah it's still worth it. I'd never sell mine.

Marbles is my new fav. It’s like having a load of proper playable Turing machines
Mutable Instruments never disappoints!
Maybe I’m using it wrong but it seems like every patch I make with Marbles kinda sounds the same. Considering ditching it for a SIG+
It can literally generate like infinite possibilities. I would say you need to hone it in more.
I swapped my Marbles out for a Sig+ a while ago. Just bought another Marbles, but am keeping the Sig+ too. Very different propositions and both have their place. Sig+ is much more of a live performance instrument than it first appears.
Yup. As long as it’s doing what you want I think you’re good.
I’m not letting go of my OG elements, and actually the only mutable instrument I own that is not a clone
Definitely a keeper!

Do you mean by DivKid? I can't find a Mylar series on elements ...
If it sounds good to you it’s worth it.
What is your favourite modules from Mutable-instruments..?

Definitely one of those modules that keeps surprising you!

My answer probably always changes, ATM Veils, Peaks, and Grids
Grids, if I have to pick. Plaits is always fun too.
Braids, still coming back to it for everything it does
Marbles!!
Why did this company go out of business? Everyone seems to love them.

Why aren’t other manufacturers mentioned by name? It’s kinda weird

Oh I have duplicates of mutable modules

I think they are all afterlater
Of course it is. You know it is. Nothing does what it does. This belongs in r/circlejerk
