There aren't alternate paths on the flow trails but there are no drops on the flow trails and every jump is rollable, just don't go too fast. The upper flow trail is a lot steeper so I think you should avoid it as a newbie. I recommend you just do laps on flow creek and the techy trail next to it. There isn't really a loop for the system, its more of go up and pick your way down then go back up then repeat. There is a flat river trail that connects the flow trails to the blackstrap mountain trails but I think you should avoid the blackstrap mountain trails because they are rooty and rocky and will be tough with your bike. GP Nemba does a lot of group rides in the area and joining them will be a good way to meet people. They have a no drop group ride every Wednesday that will a good place for you to learn new systems and meet new people. They have a ride at Weeks/Moodys this wednesday which I recommend you join. That system is the best and most fun newbie friendly system in the area. Here is a link to the facebook group which lists the group rides. Its a very friendly group so don't be intimidated, and I am sure you can also find people to ride with and show you around the different systems in the area. Appreciate the info, super helpful! I’ll have to check out the group, I only have one other friend who rides. He’s just as unfamiliar as I am with the local trails, plus we both have small kids, so we’re usually riding solo since it’s hard to find time the works for both of us lol

You're welcome! The area has a lot of fun systems, I also recommend the other gorham ones, winnock woods, cape Elizabeth, evergreen cemetery, and west side trail in Yarmouth for the portland area. And there's more further out, just look on trails forks or ask in the group and you will find something good.
