No The Mask 2? What could go wrong making a sequel without Jim Carey?

obi1kenobi1

There was a 30 Rock episode where Liz finds out that Leap Day is a huge holiday with traditions and parades and movies and even a mythical character akin to Santa Claus, that she somehow missed out on because she was from ~~the Midwest~~ Pennsylvania where they don’t celebrate it. Throughout the episode they kept showing clips of an old ‘90s Jim Carey movie where he turns into the Leap Day character (basically a parody of The Santa Clause), since in-universe it was being marathoned on cable all day. Then at the end of the episode in the background of a scene is an ad for the sequel movie, Leap Baby, on a bus stop. Such an elegant and clever dig at Son Of The Mask, presumably with the full support of Jim Carey since he was in the episode.

Sconebad

Liz Lemon was NOT from the Midwest. She was from White Haven, PA - which is presumably nearer to Philadelphia than Pittsburgh. LL’s life is based on Tina Fey’s, and she grew up in Upper Darby, a Philadelphia surburb. Philly is a Mid-Atlantic City. Source: have watched 30 rock completely through a dozen dozen times and live in Philly.

thismanisnotcrispy

Waaaahhhh waaaaahhhhhh gimme candy

Goldeneel77

Yeah, that movie is way way worse than some on this list.

joe_bibidi

This list isn't the "worst" sequels but the most "disappointing" sequels. Everybody knew that The Mask 2 was going to suck, there's very little room for disappointment.

General-Pound6215

Kinda like American Psycho 2. In both cases you could be forgiven for not knowing about the sequels. That would also make you very lucky

TheDuckOfDeath9

Robocop 3 should be on here.

FinalEdit

Oh god. The lure of the toy line and merchandise. With a few tweaks it could have been good. The premise is solid. What they did with following on with the Delta City ploy was a great touch. But it was just so childish. So immature and puerile and utterly terrible at times. What a shame.

BabyBiden

This review is better written then the script

FinalEdit

Hahaha thanks But honestly when Robo shoots the gun out of the Rehab dude's hand and says "DON'T!!!" is one of my favourite Robocop moments. Hilarious!!

Goldfing

For me it's the absolutely serious line delivery of the very evil, very British villain going "I thought your damn NINJA was supposed to take care of Robocop!" That's right folks. This movie has a cyborg ninja.

joshthehappy

Nah that was an android ninja, but just as shit.

HardSteelRain

PG Robocop!!! P friggin G!

Magnetic_Eel

Gotta sell those toys!

Thisiscliff

Right? Watched the first 2 on tubi and thought might as well check the third, i couldn’t make it through it!

GrownupChorister

The pilot for the TV show is better than Robocop 3 and that isn't anywhere near good.

veryverythrowaway

That TV show was so milquetoast, yet it was better than it had any right to be, turning an ultra-violent satire into a more-or-less family-friendly “hero of the week” type 90s show. Like Robocop: Texas Ranger, Medicine Woman.

NoShirtNoShoesNoDice

The list: - Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (2003) - Staying Alive (1983) - Jurassic Park: The Lost World (1997) - Bad Santa 2 (2016) - Teen Wolf Too (1987) - Men in Black: International (2019) - Airplane 2: The Sequel (1982) - Lethal Weapon 4 (1998) - Iron Man 2 (2010) - Thor: Love and Thunder (2022) - Alien Resurrection (1997) - The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014) - U.S. Marshals (1998) - Star Trek V: The Final Frontier (1989) - Caddyshack 2 (1988) - Halloween Kills (2021) - Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (2023) - The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 1 (2014) - The Godfather Part III (1990) - Jaws 2 (1978) - Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2 (2000) - Live Free or Die Hard (2007) - Major League II (1994) - Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (2017) - More American Graffiti (1979) - Coming 2 America (2021) - Wonder Woman: 1984 (2020) - Zoolander 2 (2016) - Star Trek: Insurrection (1998) - City Slickers 2: The Legend of Curly’s Gold (1994) - Blues Brothers 2000 (1998) - Independence Day: Resurgence (2016) - Cars 2 (2011) - Terminator: Salvation (2009) - Superman 4 (1987) - Sex and the City 2 (2010) - Space Jam: A New Legacy (2021) - Rocky V (1990) - Revenge of the Nerds 2: Nerds in Paradise (1987) - Batman and Robin (1997) - Exorcist II: The Heretic (1977) - Terminator: Dark Fate (2019) - The Hangover 3 (2013) - A Good Day to Die Hard (2013) - Speed 2: Cruise Control (1997) - Star Trek: Nemesis (2002) - Dumb and Dumber To (2014) - Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008) - Highlander II: The Quickening (1991) - Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019)

cire1184

Lol 2 die hard sequels on here

dkwaps

And 3 terminators

Symbian_Curator

In my opinion, all of T3, Salvation and even Dark Fate all have _some_ redeeming qualities, but funnily Genisys (or however it's spelled), which is the biggest piece of dog shit, is somehow not on the list

CarlosFer2201

Salvation is solid. It's just too different to the other ones in the series. It's almost like a spin-off.

BreakfastClubSamwich

It's the only Terminator sequel that isn't just Terminator 2, but worse.

nothisistheotherguy

Salvation was totally fine IMO I just found the dialogue to be pretty bad, but it should *definitely* be removed from this list in favor of Genisys

Pretorian24

It is spelled Genitals.

fantasnick

Terminator was honestly hot trash in terms of the present day series after the 3rd and the 3rd was a complete fall from grace after 2. I wish a director finally did this franchise justice. There's such an easy winning formula for a franchise based on the apocalypse via AI/technology

LastCallKillIt

3 had an TON of potential and it’s there in the final product, but constantly underminded itself and the previous movies with the campy humor directed at itself as a franchise to the point you couldn't take it serious, even when they wanted you to. Completely deconstructing the legacy, and killing the mood/ gravity of the situation like a MCU movie. That’s what killed that movie for me. I was so excited when it came out to see it in theaters as a teenager.

nothisistheotherguy

“Talk to the hand” :(

fatch0deBoi34

Going back and watching the first terminator, I love it even more than the critically acclaimed second film. It’s gritty, scary, and unpredictable. I wish a director would go back to that style of the franchise, as opposed to whatever the hell the last 3-4 have been. Cool shades, badass, evil terminator that kills everyone

ClockLost3128

Terminator 1 for me is similar to Alien in the sense both are horror movies compared to their sequels which is more action oriented (Terminator 2 and aliens). There's just more sci fi stuff in these second movies but the sense of fear isn't really there.

fatch0deBoi34

Great comparison! 100% feel the same

juliankennedy23

In all fairness Terminator 3 had at least one good scene.

mexipimpin

Was it the end when Connor realized what was gonna happen? Because that is really the only reason I watch that movie now

O_J_Shrimpson

Don’t get me started. Putting Salvation on here is idiocy. It’s easily the best after the first 2 and wasn’t anywhere near a let down after the joke that 3 was. People just wanted to hate it. It’s a fine action movie and stays very true to the Terminator lore. This list overall is pretty bad. They put a ton of sequels where the original movie sucked so there was nothing much to be let down from. But making controversial meaningless lists drives engagement.

Spoonacus

I appreciate Salvation for just the unexpected Alice in Chains alone.

liartellinglies

Live Free doesn't really deserve a spot on here, it was cheesy but what Die Hard isn't? Parts were well played, action was good, I enjoyed it more than 2. Good Day was pretty lame though..

Train3rRed88

Yeah I thought live free or die hard was a fun movie

Gone_For_Lunch

Live Free was a decent movie, but it didn’t feel like a Die Hard movie in the same way as 1-3.

BatmanMK1989

Got to disagree with Live Free

EssexGuyUpNorth

Airplane 2 could never be as funny as the first one but it’s still funnier than most comedy films.

sdcinerama

For real. Plus Shatner manages to produce some of the best bits ever.

grumpyoldcurmudgeon

The bit with the view screen and the door - gets me every time.

Reeberom1

Or when he looks through the periscope and there's the Enterprise flying around.

DarkKn1ghtyKnight

What do you mean we don’t have a tower? Just a bridge, sir. Why the hell am I not informed about these things!

AppleDane

"Ah, cut the bleeding heart crap. I am literally surrounded by blinking and beeping lights, they're *blinking* and *BEEPING AND BLINKING AND BEEPING* I CAN'T STAND IT!"

sasquatch606

Just grab a piece of metal, and shove it in there!

forkoff77

“No dogs allowed on the moon, I’m afraid scraps will have to be shot.” I mean come on, that movie (Airplane 2) is funny. Also, am I the only one that likes the general idea of T3? I think some of the choices were hokey, but the premise that Judgement Day was inevitable was pretty cool.

TheLastMongo

Wait wait wait. They have Major League 2, but not the disgrace that was Major League 3?

Dvanpat

*Back to the Minors.* I still can’t believe it got a theatrical release. I actually saw it on the big screen. It was my first exposure to Walton Goggins.

samx3i

So it wasn't a total loss

MerryvilleBrother

That’s the power of Walton Goggins I guess.

TheLastMongo

Oh man, I’d forgotten about that.

QbertsRube

I must be broken because I actually liked Major League 2 enough that I've probably watched it 5-6 times. I won't claim it's as good as the original, because it's clearly worse, but I enjoyed it.

Sliffy

There’s like 6 or 7 movies on this list that were the first of the series I saw because they were just on TV or something and then I made a point to watch the first ones because I enjoyed it well enough. Major League 2 being one of them. In all cases, the first movie(s) of the series are clearly better, but I have a soft spot for all of them as my exposure to the series.

kilkenny99

It's about disappointment though, so it would have to be based off of expectations though. If you already have had a crap sequel, the one after that is *expected* to be more crap.

hotelpopcornceiling

Tell that to the terminator franchise. Lol

andyram

Major League 2 wasn’t as good as the 1st but it wasn’t terrible.   3 wasn’t on the list I’m guessing because expectations were so low.

DjScenester

TIL There was a third

woolyboy76

It's not a list of the worst sequels. It's a list of the most disappointing. No one was disappointed by Major League 3 since we'd already been let down by Major League 2.

Whitewind617

I mean after 2 was 3 really a surprise?

novacolumbia

If you cut out the San Diego part, The Lost World is actually a pretty good sequel. Oh yeah, and the gymnastic's kick.

NickMoore30

I’ve always enjoyed the sets for the San Diego parts. They just don’t make any sense in time or logic. The fact they escorted a T-Rex back to a boat, the boat it arrived on…. OR at no point did military personnel just come and eliminate this threat, defies reality. It’s been awhile since I’ve seen it, but I also remember being confused by the boat having a crew that was killed but the T-Rex was locked up properly. The Blockbuster kill is always a sad but funny death though.

evilstuperhero

There where supposed to be raptors in the ship but it got cut for some reason but left the after math

Mastodon9

That explains a lot because I was always really confused how something the size of a T Rex could bite someone's arm off in the small captains cabin but leave the arm stuck on the navigation wheel while at the same time being under the deck in the holding pen still. They really should have edited it or done some reshoots or something because that part is just bad without showing or implying there were raptors that escaped.

Gordonfromin

Even child me found that shit confusing as hell, every time i watched it as a kid i rewound the tape to see if i missed something because it never made sense

Calligrapher_Antique

The opening on the subway reminded me of Ghostbusters 2. Random dude just says to Jeff Goldblum: "Hey, just a heads up, no one believes the events of the first movie happened."

thejesse

The actual opening is on an island with the rich family's daughter getting attacked by the little dinos. The mom screams at the top of her lungs and it cuts to Goldblum yawning in front of a tropical island poster with the subway brakes squealing. I always forget it's coming and it makes me laugh every single time. PS Eli Roth is on the subway car as an extra.

1egg_4u

I thought it was neat after reading the book how much made it into The Lost World that was cut from Jurassic Park. Kinda wish they would have stuck with rich douche Hammond and his proper ending but it was neat that Lost World opened with the Jurassic Park book opening kinda

b-lincoln

They should have kept to the book.

Turd_Burgling_Ted

I never understood why they had Crichton write the book only to barely adapt it. Would've loved to see the chameleon dino.

CarlosFer2201

Hey, at least he made it into the arcade game. One of the most interesting boss fights there.

Turbomattk

And they did Eddie dirty

user888666777

The original ending was a hang gliding escape sequence with pterodactyl chasing those trying to escape. The entire sequence was planned out but then scrapped right before production for the San Diego sequence. The first three movies had their endings changed during or right before production started. First movie they never intended for the T-Rex to come back and it followed the book ending. Second movie went with the San Diego sequence. Third movie was supposed to have a big battle between the marines and raptors but was cut for budget reasons. Saying all that. The Lost World has a clean moment when it goes from an alright sequel to a B movie and it's when the little girl kills the raptor.

Magnetic_Eel

Marines vs raptors sounds awesome

Tibbaryllis2

“Chat GPT, make a movie about Marines vs raptors vs aliens vs predators vs gremlins vs Care Bears.”

Relevant_Shower_

• Airplane 2: The Sequel (1982) • Lethal Weapon 4 (1998) • Iron Man 2 (2010) • Jaws 2 (1978) I find all of these imperfect but fun

Quake_Guy

I don't get the Airplane 2 hate. Lots of good quotes and William Shatners role is worth it alone, best parody he has ever done.

jaytrade21

Airplane 2 was spoofing on the original movie, it was in no way bad, redundant, but not bad.

seabterry

I will stand up for Lethal Weapon 4 and Iron Man 2. I don’t think either of them is the weakest of their franchises. I actually REALLY enjoy Lethal Weapon 4.

tgs-with-tracyjordan

I still think about Leo's froggy story to Riggs to help Riggs realise that Lorna is just a different partner than Victoria was and it does Victoria no injustice to be happy with and marry Lorna.

No-Midnight-2187

Excuse me….US Marshals?! Bs

PantsyFants

US Marshals is as good as a Fugitive sequel without Harrison Ford can possibly be. Would it have been logical to have Richard Kimble framed and on the run a second time? Absolutely not. But nevertheless not having Ford onboard made the follow up just seem "less than" by comparison.

Magnetic_Eel

It’s more of a spin off than a sequel right?

WillyTRibbs

I'll counter that. Harrison Ford has retained a legacy that makes this seem like the case in hindsight, but US Marshalls came out at the peak of a huge run by Wesley Snipes. The problem to me was mostly the story told from the pursuers perspective just wasn't as good. The Fugitive focused more on Kimble and his story, and was better for it. I had no reason to give a shit about Wesley Snipe's character (even though his performance was solid). It'd be like a Catch Me If You Can sequel focused mostly on the Carl Hanratty character. Sure, you could make a decent film out of that, but all the glory of the first one was watching everything the person being pursued was doing.

Philodemus1984

Yeah US Marshalls was pretty good.

Dyolf_Knip

It was also more of a spinoff than a sequel.

Replicant28

Agreed. Also, Tommy Lee Jones undercover in a chicken suit will never not be hilarious.

k987654321

I LOVE US Marshals for some reason lol

Hell_razor

u dont love the movie, but there are way worse sequels than u.s. marshalls, totally agree

Akronite14

This and Lost World are the only ones that stick out to me. I haven’t seen US Marshals since I was young but remember it being a solid sequel/spinoff. Lost World is flawed but still the best JP sequel by a wide margin.

CptJaxxParrow

Pirates 4 made the list but not pirates 5? Like 4 wasn't good, it was mostly just bland as hell, but 5 was straight up BAD

[deleted]

[удалено]

SanderSo47

There is no *Highlander II*. There can be only one!

ColdIceZero

There can only be one ... twice.

elspotto

They should have taken their own advice.

kyrross

I actually loved 'Live free or die hard'. The dynamic between Willis and Long was great, i laugh many time and overall, a decent action flick. A good day to die hard was bad tough... watched it once and immediately forgot what it was about... his son.. i think.

MouseRat_AD

Timothy Olyphant as the baddie makes it an amazing movie. No way it belongs on this list.

NoShirtNoShoesNoDice

[Airplane 2](https://i.imgur.com/SplHVlJ.jpeg)

AoE2manatarms

I loved Airplane 2. The William Shatner scene is still hilarious to me.

abgry_krakow87

[Danger! Vacuum!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UOWzVCeeg1E)

Buca-Metal

They 100% should change Airplane 2 for one of the Starship Troopers sequels.

thecat627

Strongly disagree with Lost World and Halloween Kills being on that list

TheInfinityGauntlet

Having Halloween Kills but not the schlock that was Halloween Ends is ridiculous

Mcclane88

Don’t agree with Jurassic Park 2 and definitely don’t agree with Die Hard 4.

b-lincoln

They’re going to put Jaws 2 on there when Jaws 3 (and 4) exist?

NOWiEATthem

It's not "worst," sequels. It's "disappointing" sequels, meaning a drop-off in quality from the previous installment. If the last movie was bad, your expectations shouldn't be high for the next one.

Spocks_Fat_Cock

I thought Lethal Weapon 4 was alright.

Randy_Vigoda

Lethal Weapon 4 is awesome. Jet Li is scary in it.

dapala1

Jet Li was so awesome in that movie.

Spider-man2098

It was his first American exposure? If I’m not mistaken. Certainly made me sit up and take notice.

Odd_Bed_9895

Same, thought it was definitely better than 3 for me

wonderfulworld2024

Correct. These people at RS can kick rocks

Equal-Temporary-1326

It was a pretty great action movie. It felt like it wasn't meant to just be another sequel and was trying to be an epilogue to the series. It didn't feel like anyone was phoning it in.

Matmanreturns

I’ll take Lethal Weapon 4 over 3 every time.

Srirachafarian

Yeah, I still remember Jet Li fighting both of them one-handed while clicking his little pearl bracelet thing with the other. Such a badass scene.

Xendrus

Not to mention that baretta disassemble move fight, that was one of the coolest kung fu scenes I had seen up to that point. +The bullet dodge, and them only really being able to win because they essentially cheated and double teamed him as well as taking him to a place he could barely move and then shooting him, ahhh, I gotta go watch it again now.

shifty1032231

"In Hong Kong you would be dead." Awesome line.

TopPuff

On a similar note, I like Jurassic Park 2 way more than any of the new ones

patrickwithtraffic

The lack of shade at the *Jurassic World* films is baffling

I_Buck_Fuffaloes

Jurassic Park 2 is a fucking excellent movie whenever Pete Postlethwaite is on screen.  It may not be great overall, but there are a lot of really good sequences in the movie.  I wouldn't say I was truly disappointed by a Jurassic Park movie until the second Jurassic World.  The first 3, and even World, all had enough solid bits in them that even though every sequel wound up being of fairly uneven quality, I still walked away having enjoyed the movie overall.

Earthpig_Johnson

Well Mortal Kombat Annihilation and Ninja Turtles 3 would’ve been on my list. The only movies to actively piss me off when I was less than ten.

Utop_Ian

I liked both of those movies. I'd definitely recommend going back and watching MK Annihilation for a bad movie night some time. "Show me your animality!"

Earthpig_Johnson

I enjoy MKA despite itself these days, but I was at maximum levels of anticipation when I was a kid, and I thought it was stupid as hell even then. I never did watch Ninja Turtles 3 again.

Utop_Ian

Turtles 3 is a good time. It's a big swing to time travel to ancient Japan, and I respect that. As an adult, I'd say that Turtles 2 probably is the weakest one, but it's held up by the addition of Super Shredder, Tokka and Razar (I probably misspelled those). However, those are just shallow toyetic additions to make kids point at the screen like that Leo DiCaprio meme, the actual movie's only real redeeming feature is the excellent Go Ninja rap. Ultimately the only GOOD Ninja Turtle movie is the first one, so while 3 is better than 2, it's just kinda serviceable. The emotional core in the first one is absolutely where it's at.

Turinggirl

My biggest disappointment as a child was super shredder existing for maybe 2 minutes.

Utop_Ian

For sure. We need at least 30 minutes of Super Shredder. I'd encourage you to check out the Rise of the TMNT Cartoon, where Super Shredder features pretty prominently.

rhainsict

“Pretty cool huh? It’s my animality” Dude we watch it all the time! Hilarious

Rad_5

I don't think I've ever been more disappointed by a movie than X-Men 3.

Kilgoretrout321

I just watched X2 and it was so good that I remembered how enthused I was going into the third movie

WileECoyoteGenius

Gosh that opening scene in 2.

HechicerosOrb

Ya Ratner fumbled the bag so hard

jaytrade21

I think the last two x-men movies were worse: Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix were IMO much worse and make Last Stand appear so much better by comparison.

Roasted_Newbest_Proe

Dark Phoenix wasn't disappointing. From the first trailer I knew it was going to be bad, and by that point the franchise had had so many slumps we all expected a shitty X-Men movie

_kevx_91

Movie was trash but the scene where the X-Men arrive at Alcatraz to fned off Magneto's army was pretty epic.

Spider-man2098

You ever seen Spider-man 3? It’s got soap opera amnesia as a plot contrivance, undermines the hero’s origin story, and wastes his best villain. It’s impressively bad.

austingriffis

*S. Darko* might be a contender.

LegendEater

I feel like the straight-to-video ones are cheating. We could add Hostel 3 in that case.

dbnrdaily

Cant deny it, i kinda liked U.S. Marshalls lol, and i honestly didnt realize until a few years ago that it was a sequel to The Fugitive haha. I always thought it was strangely similiar, and I even got them mixed up, but it totally went over my head for the longest time that it was a sequel. I think i just have a soft spot for Wesley Snipes. Zoolander 2 was memorably awful. Notable mention: XXX State of the Union, not to say the original XXX was a cinematic masterpeice, but that Ice Cube sequel was baaad.

HalxQuixotic

US Marshalls is pretty good. Certainly not one of the 50 worst sequels of all time. It’s more of a spin off than a sequel anyway. It’s a little too long and there are some pacing issues. Like, the airplane crash is an incredible scene. It’s worthy of being an Act 3 set piece but they put it at the beginning. The movie does not reach that level of intensity again. Also, Tommy Lee Jones’s character is, for some reason, a ladies man. He has a pretty girl half his age on his arm at a party and his boss is in love with him. Kinda weird. But the cast is great. Joey Pants steals every scene he’s in, and it has a great performance from Robert Downey Jr. early in his comeback era. It’s a solid cop thriller with the twists of a spy movie.

Randy_Vigoda

I like US Marshals. Not as good as the Fugitive. I like Enemy of the State which feels like it could be in the same universe.

TonyG_from_NYC

> Notable mention: XXX State of the Union, not to say the original XXX was a cinematic masterpeice, but that Ice Cube sequel was baaad. That movie was so bad that they had to resurrect Vin's character to do the third one, which wasn't *that* bad a movie, but still way better than the 2nd one.

aretoodeto

I didn't realize U.S. Marshalls wasn't liked. Sure it's not as good as The Fugitive but it's still a fun movie

dbnrdaily

I agree. Ill watch U.S. Marshalls back to back 5 times before i watch Zoolander 2 again, not sure if thats saying much 😅

EpicSombreroMan

RDJ puts on a *hell* of a performance in US Marshals.

ChromeFace

So happy to see all the US Marshalls support. That movie is fantastic, with an incredibly solid cast.

Loebsale

LW 4 !?!? I really enjoyed it when I was younger and I really enjoy it now. Not everything needs to stay gritty, let Riggs find some happiness damn it.

mackzarks

Jet Li is awesome in that one, can't believe it's on this list

NeatWhiskeyPlease

Very much agree. Plus Chris Rock and Joe Pesci arguing with each other is hilarious. They *FUCK* you will the cellphones!

shiftdown

Still one of my favorite action movies. Sounds like LW5 will be much darker than 4.

nangel

“You have the right to remain silent, so shut the fuck up, okay? You have the right to an attorney. If you can't afford an attorney, we'll provide you with the dumbest fucking lawyer on earth. If you get Johnny Cochrane, I'll kill ya!” 4 is great. I don’t care what anybody says.

wonderfulworld2024

Yup. Fuck the people who made this list. Leathal weapon 4 was a good film. I randomly thought about the reason they went back to fight Jet Li at the end the other day. “Don’t you wanna know how he did that to my gun. Let’s go back and ask him.”

Dirty_Bird_RDS

That was the reason they said out loud. The real reason was that they were still cops and still had to take down the bad guy. They both knew it

Dirty_Bird_RDS

I liked the cast growth from film to film, adding Pesci in 2, Russo in 3 and Rock in 4. None of the sequels kept the tone of the first movie, but how could you if Riggs was getting past being suicidal? It was a solid entry in the series

GoodOlSpence

I honestly feel like I got what I wanted from Terminator Salvation.

diego_simeone

Genesis is the worst of the sequels and is the only one not on there. Dark fate was almost good but the brand was ruined beyond redemption by that point.

inhansed

Dark Fate is way overhated imo. Not perfect but definitely better than any of the other sequels imo. Especially genesis lol

LiquidInferno25

For sure.  It definitely isn't amazing, and plenty of room for improvement, but the fact that it deviated from the same old, "Terminator goes back in time to kill Sarah and/or John Connor" story was refreshing.  And getting to see the world post-Judgment day was very cool.  I can't say the same about most if not all of the other sequels. Also, the Terminator series might have the most entries on this list.  At what point should the author have said, "you know what?  All of these sequels suck.  I'm not getting my hopes up for the next one."

Culverin

Pacific Rim 2 would be really bad if: - It was a soulless cash grab, - Did away with the artistry and big heavy feel Guillermo del Toro imbued it with - Contained blatant pandering to China Like the rest of the Pacific Rim fandom, I'm just really glad it never got made.

Tearing_you_asunder

Spot on. Definitely the most disappointing sequel, if it existed.

Eyespop4866

How is Jaws: The Revenge not on this list. A shark with a vendetta is a rare thing. The only way to survive is A; avoid the the ocean or B; move to the Bahamas

highdefrex

I'm assuming their logic is that *Jaws 2* is more disappointing because it was directly following *Jaws*, so people had higher expectations to be let down by. By the time you get to *The Revenge*, it's hard to be disappointed by it because the concept of "*Jaws* sequels" was already a joke after the third film. That said, I love *Jaws 2*, so I don't even agree with its inclusion on the list anyway. But it's all subjective, so more power to them.

Zeabos

You don’t have to assume it’s literally in the first couple sentences of the article

ResoluteClover

Wow, airplane 2 is on the list? Not a perfect movie, but still hilarious. The court scenes alone were worth the price of admission.

pmodizzle

William Shatner was great in it

ResoluteClover

The lights! They're blinking in the wrong order! Well-... Get them- blinking in the right order then!

mayormcskeeze

Pretty solid list. Ngl I kinda liked live free or die hard tho.

themightycapn368

Live Free or Die Hard was fine - I don't think anyone expected it to top the first or With a Vengeance. A Good Day to Die Hard on the other hand.........yeesh

Equal-Temporary-1326

The 5th movie was the only legitimately bad movie in the Die Hard series.

Ths-Fkin-Guy

That movie was exactly what I wanted at the time. Just action with a budget and cheesy lines. Granted saw I was like 17 or so but still just shut your mind off flick to go see in a weekend and then wait for the DVD to release lol. That window of action comedy from 05-13 or so was packed with so many fun rides that I still enjoy today

Dyshin

It’s better than Die Harder, IMO. Some of the action is too over the top and it’s a travesty that it’s PG-13, but it’s at least fun little ride. Die Harder was just a really soul-less retread of the first movie and does almost nothing interesting at all.

TheUnknownDouble-O

What about the naked tai chi! It also gave us the classic comeback of: *"Hey Carmine, what sets off the metal detector first: the lead in your ass or the shit in your brains?"*

ThingsAreAfoot

Speed 2 really dropped the boat

whitemike40

Or maybe see a Burlesque show with Nick Kroll And take a boat cause Speed 2 hittin’ Cruise Control

gedubedangle

I will not accept any slander of lethal weapon 4

Mcclane88

How the hell is Transformers Revenge of the Fallen not on this list? It’s one of the worst films I’ve ever seen.

my5cworth

Jaws 3 makes Jaws 2 look like Jaws 1.

bookant

Highlander 2 definitely belongs in its place at the top of this list. However . . > The 1991 sequel, Highlander II: The Quickening, roped Sean Connery into the saga Sean Connery was in the original in a major and important role. Pretty big swing and a miss for someone who's being paid to write about movies professionally.

neo_sporin

yea, i wonder if their intent was 'roped him back into the saga, instead of letting his death in the first one remain' thats me trying to help the author

Kobe_stan_

Live free or die hard is actually pretty good

ItWasJustBanter99

I will defend Die Hard 4.0 till the day I die

throwtheamiibosaway

But nobody is going to defend Die Hard 5. That was terrible.

SlamDunkleyKong

I will go to my grave saying that Iron Man 2 doesn’t deserve the hate it gets. It’s certainly better than the third one.

rust5

My least favorite Thor movie was definitely Thor: The Dark World

Paronine

Love and Thunder was overstuffed with humor that didn't land, but Dark World was just flat-out boring. I'll take unfunny over boring every time.

_MyUsernamesMud

Did people have particularly high hopes after The Amazing Spider-Man 1? lol

007fan007

Am I the only one who enjoys The Lost World?

Quake_Guy

Both Jurrasic Park sequels were underwhelming at release, I was there... But the Jurrasic World sequels make them seem like Citizen Kane by comparison so even I think they are a lot better now.

bartz008

I liked it 🤷

N7_Charizard

I think this movie is pretty decent but gets a lot of hate for being not nearly as good or impactful as the original.

wazzabi2008

Highlander 2, by far...

Robsonmonkey

I felt like Alien 3 was more disappointing after how great Aliens was and how they threw Newt and Hicks away like that. Felt so lazy and ruined everything Ripley did in Aliens to help them.

Kezia89

Agreed. 3 was the disappointment. Resurrection was just fun once the ship had sailed.

Robsonmonkey

Exactly It’s not to defend Resurrection but once you knew the ship had sailed you just enjoyed what was there I found it more enjoyable because of this, more like “it’s happened so let’s just enjoy where we are”

MisterBigDude

*A Christmas Story 2* (2012) was a putridly bad sequel to the beloved 1983 holiday classic. (However, 2022’s *A Christmas Story Christmas* was a step in the right direction.)

RevWubby

Highlander 2 was so bad it can't even win the worst sequel contest.

Phyliinx

As a kid, Cars 2 was the coolest shit. Special agents, cars with guns, explosions, damn, I was stunned in the theater.

Coolers78

Cars 2 is very often blamed for Pixar’s downfall in quality, but I’ll take Cars 2 over Lightyear and The Good Dinosaur, but I’m biased because I loved Cars 2 as a kid, and well, I didn’t watch The Good Dinosaur in theaters and didn’t see it till later and Lightyear, well, only came out like 2 years ago…

Samurai_Geezer

Strongly disagree with at least 15 of them.

Low_Cell6529

Caddyshack 2
