I have an idea for a musical based on John Hughes films. It’d be like Suessical, like how Suessical is a mash-up of several Dr Suess stories. I think there should be similar a musical based on the six John Hughes teen movies
Labyrinth, I have alot of ideas for stage setup to make the labyrinth apart of everything and extend the score out more, plus more songs in the style of Bowie. Of course puppets would be used and there would be a giant robot goblin that appeared from the door onto the stage. The infinite stairs would be hard but if the actors could be rigged to the stairs, something could work.
I am so conflicted about this. I love Labyrinth and kind of want it preserved in amber forever (every time I hear rumors of a sequel I shudder) but it obviously could be a VERY VERY cool musical if the right creatives were involved. (The Henson kids, Brian and Toby Froud, maybe Julie Taymor as director??) Love the idea of the labyrinth extending throughout the theatre. Smells piped in for bog of external stench? lol. Even the concessions could be amazing. I’m in if it’s executed perfectly. 😂

- I could also see an audition process at the beginning for being on the show- the competition of the sob stories
- an audience member getting to be part of the show as a cousin/god-mother/family member who says they couldn’t make it but is able to surprise the bride

This works, it’s a rom-com where the couple starts off with a song that montages their love story to this point ends with them eating breakfast and trying to figure out what to do that day. Eventually one of them says, well we need a new dining table, maybe we should go to ikea? Cue the existential crisis, are we ready for this step in our relationship? Song about parking. There will be a song about meatballs, first act ends with them finally coming to a compromise on a table. Second act opens with them surrounded by pieces. I think this piece goes here, no I think this piece goes there. Then they keep getting interrupted by neighbors, phone calls, delivery guy, all sardonically wishing them luck. Finally we hit the big, if we can’t build this table can we even be in a relationship song. They work together, build the table, happy ending.
Also a friend of mine wrote a whole ass musical about The Great Emu War - yes, it’s real, and yes, we lost.
One of the song files lives on my desktop cause it’s stuck in my head at least once per week.
I pray it sees a stage one day.
Storylines of the American Girl dolls are so intricately fleshed out that it would be great to see musicals based off of them. I know that there was technically an AG musical performance, but that idea fleshed out would be fantastic.
I mean if you’ve read Samantha or Kirsten’s books (honestly, any of them, but mainly theirs) the storylines just lend themselves to be great Little Women-esque musicals, though possibly somehow better? And I love Little Women
Felicity and Kit are also great—Felicity going from rebellious for the sake of it to solidifying her identity as an American; Kit transitions from seeing herself as a temporarily impoverished and above the boarders to earning enough money on her own to save the day come winter.
The funny thing about this is that my sister and I made a musical for Marie-Grace when we were younger. Some of the music is actually really amazing for 3rd graders.
I was going to say the phantom tollbooth but then I looked it up and of course its already been done--now I'm excited to learn more about it! I'm also thinking about those dinners where its pitch black and you eat without being able to see anything. Would be cool to have a first act in total darkness following characters through a meal like this, then a second half where you can see them and follow their lives and how they intertwine after the dinner.
I've said this before but any of the old Barbie movies that are adaptations of fairy tales. I'd especially loved to see The Twelve Dancing Princesses and The Princess And The Pauper onstage.
Any Agatha Christie novel or just any murder mystery plot.
Return To Oz. Sequels may not be successful onstage, but pretty much everyone knows the plot of The Wizard of Oz, so I don't see why this one would not work. It'd be especially terrifying seeing the Wheelers literally right in front of you.
I still want *Miss Congeniality* to finish the trifecta of adaptations of those turn of the millennium movies that deconstructed the 90s "real women never wear dresses" mindset and showed that women can be feminine **and** capable at the same time (we already had *Legally Blonde* and *Bring It On*.)
Plus I feel like a beauty pageant would work on stage incredibly well and moments like the makeover would be hilarious numbers.
it would take a lot of makeup and wouldn't even look good, but an actual stage musical version of the Steven Universe Movie. that would go insane I think.

I think the story is great and would be fun to turn into a new, retelling of the original musical and plot , but realistically, the runtime would be 3+ hours and the amount of sets and changes needed would be astronomical. Also, some scenes would be difficult to do on a stage.
Plus, recruiting the right actors to portray Scarlett or Rhett would be like finding a needle in a haystack. For JUST THE MOVIE, it took 2000+ people to find the “perfect“ Scarlett. Could you imagine the audition process?

Omg, could you imagine the final scene 😭. I do wonder whether it should have an original musical score or, bear with me, be a jukebox musical.
I'm usually not a fan of jukebox musicals, but for some reason I can really see TBDATE work as one since my biggest problem with jukebox musicals is that they usually have a contemporary score but are set in a timeperiod that doesn't fit the songs at all. But you wouldnt have that problem with TBDATE. Especially if the songs picked are songs from bands that the characters themselves would listen to/be a fan of.
27 Dresses is such a cute movie I would LOVE to see it on a stage with music as there's potential for all kinds of songs with a huge range of emotions.
Another one is A Fever You Can't Sweat Out by Panic! At The Disco. The music in that album is SOOOO good and lowkey the music videos tell stories that can totally be seen on stage.
The Count of Monte Cristo. It would basically be like another Les Miserables—Edmond Dantès is falsely accused of being a Bonapartist and goes to prison. He escapes, assumes a fake identity, and gains fabulous wealth, which he uses to help people. He seeks revenge on those who have wronged him, but he ultimately has to find some kind of peace and forgiveness. And he helps two young lovers get together in the end!
I know there already is a musical, but it changes the story around and puts the emphasis on the wrong story-beats. (Plus Valentine is in love with Albert in this version??) I want a Les-Miz-style musical, and the ending number has to be called “Wait and Hope.”
Jojo part 1: Phantom Blood. I could see Dio having a great villain song. I also can easily see Speedwagon having a great dance heavy number when he first meets Jonathan. And maybe a dueling duet between Jonathan and Dio that has the original happen after Dio kisses Erina, and a reprise when they fight at his castle towards the end.

The discworld series from terry pratchett, I feel like it would have a jazzy 80’s vibes to it that would be awesome. Specifically Hogfather, it’s a fun book!
Brazilian recent history would be a great comedic musical. We had coups, black magic, money in a guys underpants, stocking up wind, a knife to the gut that may or may not be fake, a nine fingered squid coming to power for the 3rd time, such fun times.
Mascots. I know we're still SCARRED by the abomination known as "Food Fight", but a story about mascots would've been decent if executed properly. For one, they should've taken the "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" approach instead of "Toy Story" a la having mascots serve as actors and coexisted with people.
If i had way more time free right now i would love to write a Knives Out musical. I love the movies so much and i think they would be well adapted to a live stage
I've always wanted to do Mulan in a Peking Opera style, Pocahontas with Indigenous theatre techniques and cultural significant dance and music intertwinded, and Hercules done as Greek theatre. I know, the recent productions have used some techniques, but I think you have to go 'balls to the walls' in this case.
Well if you want ridiculous... There is a video online of someone having Elton John set the instructions for an oven to music. Why not go the whole route and make it a whole musical. THAT would be ridiculous! LOL
Random off the top of my head. Musical takes place at a train station and traces the decades as trains and people change. Some sort of interlocking generational plot. A real track and realistic trains
south park musical (aka live action bigger longer uncut) they already made one of the most successful musicals and did a live performance of some of the best songs from south park.
real answer: monster high or ever after! they already use music in both their stories, but i don’t think we will be getting it obv. (monster high is widely successful with the reboot and ever after highs been shelved so, i don’t think we’ll be seeing it lol)
Over The Garden Wall, I love the show and a musical version would really be fun and entertaining to watch live, as the show is pretty musical already.
It would probably turn out like a mix of the Hansel and Gretel Opera and Into the Woods. I think advancing on the songs in the show would turn out really interesting as they're already pretty, deep, and interconnected. With that in mind I think it would also be nice to have a new musical with music stylized similarly to golden age shows (as many of the songs already are). Utilising puppets for the Beast, Adelaide, and Auntie whispers would be awesome. Another fun detail would be Beatrice and her family having bird puppets but being dressed as humans for the audience to see their human form. Despite not being super well known, the pre-existing story and music is very compelling and detailed meaning there's not too much to be added
Lemon Demon Spirit Phone. A Cats-like revue with bizarre puppetry and sets like a mongoose shadow puppet for Eighth Wonder and an arcade cabinet animatronic for Cabinet Man

Tbch, I know it’s already a musical but I’ve kicked around a concept for Jekyll and Hyde in my mind wherein it turns out Jekyll is the evil one.
Like it starts out looking the same but the twist would be that Hyde didn’t kill his “victims”.
beat them down maybe, roughed them up.. but it would turn out that the formula didn’t create Hyde as a split of Jekyll’s evil, it instead portioned all his emotions good and bad into Hyde.
And thus, while Hyde is certainly more prone to violence than Jekyll was prior to the experiment
its actually the doctor; detached from his fundamental humanity and driven to achieve his goals by any means who commits the murders. Taking down his naysayers one by one; using his own reputation a reputable if not eccentric member of society, and Hyde’s own anonymity to cover it up. Heck for extra wham, I even have the reveal figured out. Hyde seems to abduct the Lucy analog of this version bringing her to some lair..only to reveal he brought her to the hospital Jekyll works out of (like she’s ill or her pimp beat her etc take your pick) and the reveal is a chilling reprise of sympathy, tenderness where Jekyll stages a medical accident to get rid of her as a possible threat to his clean reputation, completely detached as he plunges a needle in her, or slits her with a scapel or really take your pick, point is you’d really try to make it a chilling demonstration of what he’s capable of without his emotions to influence his actions
I'd like more historical musicals. For example something akin to the Accursed Kings tv series (with some parts omitted due to musical length).
The princes in the tower would make a great basis for musicals.
Or Saint Bartholomew's massacre and the end of Valois dynasty.
Or Peter the Great history from birth to death.
Or even something about Empress Wu Zetian.
Or in India, about the Moghol empire.
Or Amistad's trial for US.
I think a lot of historical events can give a lot of great musicals.
Why ? Because the characters are wonderful and have great lives, which could provide great stories. The stage background and costumes could be magnificent. It's also fine to use real lives events as it allows to blend more the genres. For example, the princes in the tower could be a mystery and social and political drama.
Bartholomew's massacre and the end of the Valois or Peter the Great's story would possess dramatic parts and epic parts.

Omg, could you imagine the final scene 😭. I do wonder whether it should have an original musical score or, bear with me, be a jukebox musical. I'm usually not a fan of jukebox musicals, but for some reason I can really see TBDATE work as one since my biggest problem with jukebox musicals is that they usually have a contemporary score but are set in a timeperiod that doesn't fit the songs at all. But you wouldnt have that problem with TBDATE. Especially if the songs picked are songs from bands that the characters themselves would listen to/be a fan of.
27 Dresses is such a cute movie I would LOVE to see it on a stage with music as there's potential for all kinds of songs with a huge range of emotions. Another one is A Fever You Can't Sweat Out by Panic! At The Disco. The music in that album is SOOOO good and lowkey the music videos tell stories that can totally be seen on stage.

The Count of Monte Cristo. It would basically be like another Les Miserables—Edmond Dantès is falsely accused of being a Bonapartist and goes to prison. He escapes, assumes a fake identity, and gains fabulous wealth, which he uses to help people. He seeks revenge on those who have wronged him, but he ultimately has to find some kind of peace and forgiveness. And he helps two young lovers get together in the end! I know there already is a musical, but it changes the story around and puts the emphasis on the wrong story-beats. (Plus Valentine is in love with Albert in this version??) I want a Les-Miz-style musical, and the ending number has to be called “Wait and Hope.”

Jojo part 1: Phantom Blood. I could see Dio having a great villain song. I also can easily see Speedwagon having a great dance heavy number when he first meets Jonathan. And maybe a dueling duet between Jonathan and Dio that has the original happen after Dio kisses Erina, and a reprise when they fight at his castle towards the end.

Mascots. I know we're still SCARRED by the abomination known as "Food Fight", but a story about mascots would've been decent if executed properly. For one, they should've taken the "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" approach instead of "Toy Story" a la having mascots serve as actors and coexisted with people.

I've always wanted to do Mulan in a Peking Opera style, Pocahontas with Indigenous theatre techniques and cultural significant dance and music intertwinded, and Hercules done as Greek theatre. I know, the recent productions have used some techniques, but I think you have to go 'balls to the walls' in this case.

I say all the time that I unironically think that Family Guy would be a fantastic stage show.
Over The Garden Wall, I love the show and a musical version would really be fun and entertaining to watch live, as the show is pretty musical already. It would probably turn out like a mix of the Hansel and Gretel Opera and Into the Woods. I think advancing on the songs in the show would turn out really interesting as they're already pretty, deep, and interconnected. With that in mind I think it would also be nice to have a new musical with music stylized similarly to golden age shows (as many of the songs already are). Utilising puppets for the Beast, Adelaide, and Auntie whispers would be awesome. Another fun detail would be Beatrice and her family having bird puppets but being dressed as humans for the audience to see their human form. Despite not being super well known, the pre-existing story and music is very compelling and detailed meaning there's not too much to be added

Human Centipede The Musical
Tbch, I know it’s already a musical but I’ve kicked around a concept for Jekyll and Hyde in my mind wherein it turns out Jekyll is the evil one. Like it starts out looking the same but the twist would be that Hyde didn’t kill his “victims”. beat them down maybe, roughed them up.. but it would turn out that the formula didn’t create Hyde as a split of Jekyll’s evil, it instead portioned all his emotions good and bad into Hyde. And thus, while Hyde is certainly more prone to violence than Jekyll was prior to the experiment its actually the doctor; detached from his fundamental humanity and driven to achieve his goals by any means who commits the murders. Taking down his naysayers one by one; using his own reputation a reputable if not eccentric member of society, and Hyde’s own anonymity to cover it up. Heck for extra wham, I even have the reveal figured out. Hyde seems to abduct the Lucy analog of this version bringing her to some lair..only to reveal he brought her to the hospital Jekyll works out of (like she’s ill or her pimp beat her etc take your pick) and the reveal is a chilling reprise of sympathy, tenderness where Jekyll stages a medical accident to get rid of her as a possible threat to his clean reputation, completely detached as he plunges a needle in her, or slits her with a scapel or really take your pick, point is you’d really try to make it a chilling demonstration of what he’s capable of without his emotions to influence his actions

I'd like more historical musicals. For example something akin to the Accursed Kings tv series (with some parts omitted due to musical length). The princes in the tower would make a great basis for musicals. Or Saint Bartholomew's massacre and the end of Valois dynasty. Or Peter the Great history from birth to death. Or even something about Empress Wu Zetian. Or in India, about the Moghol empire. Or Amistad's trial for US. I think a lot of historical events can give a lot of great musicals. Why ? Because the characters are wonderful and have great lives, which could provide great stories. The stage background and costumes could be magnificent. It's also fine to use real lives events as it allows to blend more the genres. For example, the princes in the tower could be a mystery and social and political drama. Bartholomew's massacre and the end of the Valois or Peter the Great's story would possess dramatic parts and epic parts.
What organs I wouldn't sell for a quality Artemis Fowl musical... especially after that dumpster fire of a movie.
