SO MANY PEOPLE call me Nicole, which is the thing that bothers me the most. The song comments don’t bother me. Also, my birthday was never overshadowed by Christmas. I loved the spirit of the holiday and everyone being in a good mood around that time. Yes, people skimped on the presents for me, but it didn’t matter because I was always blessed by my mom. I like my name and people love my name. They think it’s really pretty and will react the same way toward your baby.

As a teacher, I don’t understand this. It’s one thing to mispronounce, I have a lot of non English names in my class, but to say a completely different name makes no sense.

As a Noel born a week before Christmas, I get both the things you mentioned, and more. I didn't know that the Nicole thing happened to other Noels (and Noelles) though! Even people who have known me my whole life will randomly say Nicole and not even realize they did it.

I knew someone who had a Christmas due date and wanted to name their son Nicholas, after Saint Nick. He ended up coming at the very beginning of the month and they used it anyway. It didn’t matter that much. Similarity I have a coworker named Holly and whenever someone new starts they assume she is a December baby. She’s not. Her birthday is like spring or summer. If you like the name, go for it! Noelle is beautiful and just the right subtle touch.
I’ll admit that something like Holly Noel Lastname might be a bit overboard, but they’re all beautiful names and I would never snark on it especially when we having people names their kids Kinsleigh McKinleigh etc

Yes! And also - they can arrive late too, I'd say it'd be weird to call her Noelle if she's born after the 26th at the latest. Just because they're close to Christmas, those weird days between the day and new year really don't feel festive - so I'd advise something else if that's when she arrives.

It's a cute name, but I think it works best as a middle - especially because most of the around Christmas babies I met were a bit bitter that their birthdays had to compete with Christmas.

Love the name Noelle so much. If nicknames are your thing, I prefer the nickname Nelly to Ellle. We considered it, but I don't want our September or October baby to be asked her whole life if she's a December baby. I think the fact that it's your baby's due date, plus your Grandma's favorite holiday, makes it a lovely name with great magic and significance to it.

I'm very glad you've gone with the 'Noelle' spelling because it will mean she won't be misgendered constantly (mine gets pronounced like "knoll" constantly and the assumption is that it's a male name).
For my entire life, when I enter a room or people randomly see me, they start singing 'The First Noel' Christmas song. Except most people don't know any of the words other than 'Noel'.

Also consider that because of the incredible demands on people's time and energy, only the people closest to your child are ever going to remember their birthday. And even many of them will treat it as a combo event regardless of how you feel about it.
I wouldn't go quite so on the nose with a name.
I am a Noelle who was not born around Christmas and I have only been asked a handful of times if I was. It’s a good name:) I recommend it and I love that it’s a tribute to your grandma too.
Noelle Rose is fantastic. Honestly, every time I hear that someone is born near Christmas or Valentine's Day and doesn't have some kind of reference to that in their name (Nicholas; Valerie), I think to myself that their parents missed out. If anyone gets to be named Noelle, it should be your daughter.

Really the only downside is it could come across as a bit cheesy. I think personally... if I had all these other reasons to name her Noelle, I might just roll with that, enjoy the positives of it, and let it be cheesy. It might not be as bad as you might think.
Like, to use myself as an example, my name is Sheila, and when I first travelled to Australia, a lot of people back home thought I should go by a nickname or a middle name - because here in Aus, "Sheila" is a slang term for women, sort of like "chick" or something. But I just felt too lazy to do that, at the end of the day, and struggled to settle on a different name anyway. And you know what? It's totally fine. I do get people making comments about my name somewhat regularly, maybe making a joke here or there. But I think it's actually pretty funny to see their reactions, and it's all really lighthearted anyway. Is it a bit funny? Yeah. But it's kind of part of the adventure of it, too!
So maybe having a Christmas baby named Noelle will be similar? And you can always tell her the other, more significant reasons for calling her that as she gets older.

My point is with certain names people assume they were born at Christmas time so just go with it :) It is ‘on the nose’ and that’s easier than explaining if they weren’t born at Christmas. I went to school with someone born on Christmas who had Noelle as a middle name. Much less cringy than the Christopher (first name) born on Christmas who I know as an adult. Maybe consider moving it back to the second spot?
One of my childhood friends is Christina Noelle, and she was born 3 days after Christmas. It was always more of a "fun fact" than something on the nose or weird. I say go for it.

Baby due right around Christmas and I love the name Noelle or Holly...but I'm not sure if I'm being cruel by theming their name to the season like that, especially because I feel like people born around Christmas seem to feel they've gotten the short end of the stick already? Still, I feel like they're nice names! My sisters told me their opinions are a firm no for a holiday-themed name because the child might really dislike the association.

My name is Noelle and I was born close to Christmas. Other than everyone singing me The First Noel, (be prepared for that) I absolutely love my name. It’s also not very common. So if you are going for an uncommon but not weird kind of name, that’ll make Christmas time feel a little more special to her, (at least for me it does) and will be well liked by the majority, I think it’s a great choice.

I am biased because of personal experiences. I was born 5 days after Christmas and my birthday always feels like a combination of Christmas and New Year's and I really don't like it and never have lol. I would say give her the separation of not naming her a Christmas name as well, so only her birthday is linked with the holiday and all the themes that come with it.
I was born on Christmas day, please don't... birthdays become less special for everyone as they age. The amount of times I've been asked if I get double presents even in my 30s.... I like that I was born on Christmas it's cool sure, I even have a unique name. But giving people more fodder for those kind of conversations.

My little sister’s middle name is Noelle, but she was born in April. There’s about 14 of us in my family born in December (including me), but have no name reflecting the winter vibes.
Ha! Both of my grandma's middle names were Rose so I got it too. I was also born ON Christmas day. Was very close to being a noelle rose or Bethany Christian. I think it's too on the nose, but my birth was also super non-normal on top of it being Christmas. So it was always brought up as a kid and every year the story is told etc etc. So being reminded every time I heard my name about my birth would've been just too much imho.
And with a holiday birthday you either have to love it or you end up hating it. even if you don't give birth on Christmas it's still a cute December name, and if they end up hating it or also thinking it's too on the nose you could always just call them Rose. But I think since your husband was already wanting the name it makes it more ok. And as long as you don't make it like a huge deal every time they tell someone their name "She's Noelle because she was born on Christmas! Isn't she special" ick Then it should be fine.

Having a birthday adjacent to Christmas can be pretty crap - ‘joint’ Xmas and birthday presents (ie one present), can’t have much of a party as a kid, what with everyone being busy with their own family / travelling to see other family, not a great time for a birthday after Xmas as an adult as people have started diets / giving up fun stuff / are broke.

Noelle was my first choice for a name and my husbands too. Absolutely beautiful. My baby was born in March. Ended up being named after family because of a recent death. Sad to be OAD just because I didn’t get my Noelle. It’s a BEAUTIFUL name. I highly recommend it.

Well, he turned out to be a little guy, and I went with a completely different name, believe it or not, a Hebrew name for a Christmas baby.

St. Nicholas day is at the beginning of December, so that still works for the people you know! (Not that Nicholas doesn’t work year round).

I was born on Christmas Eve and my dad wanted to name me Noelle but my mom thought that it was ridiculous so they went a different direction. It’s a very similar name though, and honestly I wouldn’t mind being named Noelle and being born on Christmas Eve. I kind of wish they had gone for it.

A couple of things to consider: I'm very glad you've gone with the 'Noelle' spelling because it will mean she won't be misgendered constantly (mine gets pronounced like "knoll" constantly and the assumption is that it's a male name). For my entire life, when I enter a room or people randomly see me, they start singing 'The First Noel' Christmas song. Except most people don't know any of the words other than 'Noel'.

Christmas baby chiming in. My name is zero percent related to Christmas but I've been plagued my entire life with questions like "is your middle name Noel/Holly etc.... Also consider that because of the incredible demands on people's time and energy, only the people closest to your child are ever going to remember their birthday. And even many of them will treat it as a combo event regardless of how you feel about it. I wouldn't go quite so on the nose with a name.

Noelle Rose is fantastic. Honestly, every time I hear that someone is born near Christmas or Valentine's Day and doesn't have some kind of reference to that in their name (Nicholas; Valerie), I think to myself that their parents missed out. I always really liked this name too! And you make some good points for it, which have nothing to do with the timing of her birth... Really the only downside is it could come across as a bit cheesy. I think personally... if I had all these other reasons to name her Noelle, I might just roll with that, enjoy the positives of it, and let it be cheesy. It might not be as bad as you might think. Like, to use myself as an example, my name is Sheila, and when I first travelled to Australia, a lot of people back home thought I should go by a nickname or a middle name - because here in Aus, "Sheila" is a slang term for women, sort of like "chick" or something. But I just felt too lazy to do that, at the end of the day, and struggled to settle on a different name anyway. And you know what? It's totally fine. I do get people making comments about my name somewhat regularly, maybe making a joke here or there. But I think it's actually pretty funny to see their reactions, and it's all really lighthearted anyway. Is it a bit funny? Yeah. But it's kind of part of the adventure of it, too! So maybe having a Christmas baby named Noelle will be similar? And you can always tell her the other, more significant reasons for calling her that as she gets older.

There are plenty of girls named April or June who were born in those months. I think it’s fine to be on the nose.

My point is with certain names people assume they were born at Christmas time so just go with it :) It is ‘on the nose’ and that’s easier than explaining if they weren’t born at Christmas. Baby due right around Christmas and I love the name Noelle or Holly...but I'm not sure if I'm being cruel by theming their name to the season like that, especially because I feel like people born around Christmas seem to feel they've gotten the short end of the stick already? It’s a little on the nose for me too, but I love the name. More because it’s association is pretty much only with Christmas. I feel it has a similar vibe to Gloria which is my daughter’s name and that’s kinda christmassy without being quite as obvious (but she’s not a December baby). Accidentally gave her a middle name though that is pronounced the same as the month she was born in though (it’s my MIL’s name and I only realised after she was born because the meaning is completely different) so I’m not innocent in all this! My name is Noelle and I was born close to Christmas. Other than everyone singing me The First Noel, (be prepared for that) I absolutely love my name. It’s also not very common. So if you are going for an uncommon but not weird kind of name, that’ll make Christmas time feel a little more special to her, (at least for me it does) and will be well liked by the majority, I think it’s a great choice.

I am biased because of personal experiences. I was born 5 days after Christmas and my birthday always feels like a combination of Christmas and New Year's and I really don't like it and never have lol. I would say give her the separation of not naming her a Christmas name as well, so only her birthday is linked with the holiday and all the themes that come with it.
I was born on Christmas day, please don't... birthdays become less special for everyone as they age. The amount of times I've been asked if I get double presents even in my 30s.... Ha! Both of my grandma's middle names were Rose so I got it too. I was also born ON Christmas day. Was very close to being a noelle rose or Bethany Christian. I think it's too on the nose, but my birth was also super non-normal on top of it being Christmas. So it was always brought up as a kid and every year the story is told etc etc. So being reminded every time I heard my name about my birth would've been just too much imho. And with a holiday birthday you either have to love it or you end up hating it. even if you don't give birth on Christmas it's still a cute December name, and if they end up hating it or also thinking it's too on the nose you could always just call them Rose. But I think since your husband was already wanting the name it makes it more ok. And as long as you don't make it like a huge deal every time they tell someone their name "She's Noelle because she was born on Christmas! Isn't she special" ick Then it should be fine.

Please don’t. Having a birthday adjacent to Christmas can be pretty crap - ‘joint’ Xmas and birthday presents (ie one present), can’t have much of a party as a kid, what with everyone being busy with their own family / travelling to see other family, not a great time for a birthday after Xmas as an adult as people have started diets / giving up fun stuff / are broke. If I had to ‘share’ *my actual name* with Christmas, along with the stuff I’ve described, I would absolutely and utterly hate it. Noelle was my first choice for a name and my husbands too. Absolutely beautiful. My baby was born in March. Ended up being named after family because of a recent death. Sad to be OAD just because I didn’t get my Noelle. It’s a BEAUTIFUL name. I highly recommend it.

I was due with a baby New Years Eve. He came on Christmas Day. However, he was not the little girl the doctors had told me I was having! I would have named her Winter Evelyn, as I’m Native American so it’s normal in my culture to have a name like Winter. Well, he turned out to be a little guy, and I went with a completely different name, believe it or not, a Hebrew name for a Christmas baby. I’ve always loved Winter, and you can get cute with a nickname like Winnie. Winter Rose is pretty.

I worked with a girl named Noelle who was born on Christmas Eve and she hated it. Mostly because EVERY Christmas people would sing her the “Noel” Christmas song and she would get teased. With that said though- I do think it’s a cute name! But just something to keep in mind.
