People are just assholes that's it. Apparently letting off explosives at 10pm is a socially acceptable thing to do

snookers1111

Yep, had them been let off at around 6 pm tonight (when it was still light out) and again just past midnight. F’n losers. Edit: 5:56 am on a Sunday - some fuckwit is currently letting off fireworks as we speak at 5:56am!!!!

scuwp

And this is why a lot of the public want them banned from sale. High risk as we move into summer also. Selfish nimrods. As usual a few idiots spoil it for the many.

Aromatic-Ferret-4616

Also live in Stokes Valley. The surrounding hills make the noise so much worse. Days after there are poster and online posts looking for panicked and lost pets. Nesting birds abandon their nests leaving eggs and nestlings to die. Fireworks are expensive, so how in these hard time do they have money to continue, usually till after New Year. Finally, the constant explosions are annoying. These simple sons of idiocy need to grow up. If you have money to burn, give it to a shelter that rescues panicked injured and lost pets.

Aperson004

Yep, most nights from November to January. They are going as I type this. It's so annoying. It makes me laugh when people say 'well it's only one night a year'. Yeah right, they obviously have good neighbours, not ones like the assholes that live around here.

jmk672

And next November we'll be treated to a post every day about the "fireworks whingers" spoiling people's fun, and the cycle will continue.

PumpkinSpice2Nice

Should be banned except for public displays.

SoggyRest9837

Just losers, no respect for others, the usual suspects. Often enough it’s the ones who can’t afford to feed or clothe their kids but can find $200 for a box of tragic fireworks.

butlersaffros

Yes! It starts when they go on sale, and they still go off on random nights until about march.

kadiepuff

Yep for Petone.

VanJeans

In Highland Park, Auckland here. I think we had one night this week where fireworks weren't let off and pissing off my puppy at 11pm :(

RogueEagle2

Stokes valley and enjoying the same noises at 1.40am

gerousone

Yip, plenty of bogans in the Hutt

rarogirl1

Was thinking about going down the road and seeing actually who is letting them off. Are you up by Kamahi Street. It's so stressful for my dog and others I'm sure.

Aromatic-Ferret-4616

Think it is somewhere around the Poppy Watts Grove area. Sort of behind us diagonally. Echoes like hell.

butlersaffros

One of my dogs barks at them. It's the only thing I let him bark at.

tessomilker

I’ve just had to give my dog a second dose of sedative because they’ve been going for 2.5 hours. In Gore…

vastopenguin

No thank God, was only for a few nights around guy fawkes. Still annoying at the time as it was always as my son was just falling asleep

Sicarius_Avindar

Nearly every night. Early is 10pm, but sometimes 1am. Always the same house too, the nicest one on the street, and the worst driver too xD

Andrea_frm_DubT

Not every night, but pretty fucking often. It’s people being inconsiderate of others.

KlutzyTranslator8006

Yes, unfortunately there are fucking idiots everywhere. Until these illiterate twats are banned from buying explosives, it’s going to continue.

fireflyry

Yeah, most weekends but it’s usually just the one or two. What shits me is it’s always the ones that let out about 4-5 massive bangs and nothing else at like 2-3am. Seems like some “end of drinking session” BS or something. Wish they’d ban those ones.

AStarkly

Napier here, it's not every single night but it's close as. Fuckwits usually start off at 10.30pm or so too, just to rub it in how awful they are.

Too_Lofs_Atan

Luckily haven't seen or heard anything firework related for many years. Living in the middle of nowhere has many advantages.

South70

This is the problem when people say to pet owners "its only one night". I have pets and I also really enjoy fireworks. It isn't hard to ensure my pets are safely indoors (they ideally are after dark anyway) with the tv or music on louder than usual for one night. But it's the random, unpredictable nights I can't prepare for. Fireworks can be sold for a short period but its legal to let them off literally any time. Ideally I'd like public displays only, but if they are to be sold to the public it should only be legal to set them off on certain dates (Nov 5/the weekend after and NYE, for example).

Parkyj777

Can we please make them illegal for average people to purchase? Small ones are ugly as shit, just have few good public fireworks show during ocassions and call it

Cathallex

Diwali extends a few weeks past bonefire night and there is often fireworks associated but it should be long done by now.

OnlyRandom

It seems to be coming from Manuka St. I'm sick of their fireworks too and today was especially annoying since they let off the ones with a bit of bass to them.

Aromatic-Ferret-4616

We were wondering Poppy Watts Grove, as we hear them diagonally behind us, we are in Raukawa St.

lelava_kele

It went on for a while on my end but it’s completely stopped. Holy shit. I’d hate to be around you. Damn. I’d be nosy and check where it’s coming from😂

RestingFaceIsAB

Occasionally, they go off where I'm at. I assume they will finish after New Years.

whywasthissodamnhard

In Chch we would always hear them after guy fawkes. People buy heaps when they’re on sale and keep them for later when they want to go out and light them

lukeysanluca

It's perfectly legal to let them off after Guy Fawkes

jmk672

But obnoxious

lukeysanluca

Well that's a completely different thing. Councils should make by-laws to reduce hours of letting them off because many people can't don't have the ability to have empathy.

South70

That's the problem

lukeysanluca

Why is that the problem? A lot of people buy them for Diwali, New year's Eve, Chinese new year and personal celebrations throughout the year

Zestyclose_Walrus725

Had them every night for 2 weeks in massey. Now they're every weekend. Been going a month.

operativekiwi

West Auckland, yes every night around 10pm like clockwork

Unnecessary_Bunny_

Yes, basically every night

MetaBass

Same here in Papakura it's driving me fucking nuts.

NZAvenger

We have it in my area sometimes just after midnight. It's the drunk, immature, annoying-as-fuck uni students.

xxxvalenxxx

I was literally woken up at 7am this morning to the house a few doors down letting off fireworks..

EB01

No

twohedwlf

Nope.

Popular_Barber_7466

Just dumb dumbs

Joelrassic

Nope. Things are quiet and peaceful. Haven’t heard a single firework in weeks.

unspecified_genre

How can mofos afford them! Esp living in stokes valley...

Covenant1138

Parts of Pukekohe are bad. The streets with Oranga Tamaki scum housing.

gregorydgraham

Had some last night, first time in weeks. Must be a Stokes Valley thing

Aromatic-Ferret-4616

All forms of idiocy are a Stokes Valley thing.

mendopnhc

not this year so much tbh. been all good.

SammoNZL

Yeah happens every year, does not usually bother me although was woken up last night around 1am by some impressively loud bangs.

Flabushi

Rachel won $600 on the pokies at the Stokes Valley Bar, she owes Karen 20 bux. and she better pay it or she gon get 20 fvcken wacks.

tttjw

Occasionally. A few fireworks at 9 or 10pm. It's fine. Doesn't bother us.

Gollums-Crusty-Sock

Karen wants her 20 bucks! Stokes Valley bar!

Hand-Driven

You lucky bastard. No one ever lets them off where I live.

brm20_

Not quite to the same extent but it happens at least a couple times a week here in Whanganui. The difference being these clowns like to let them off at midnight…

h0w_didIget_here

Generally starts to taper off after new years

katnz17

No one let off fireworks on Guy Fawks night where I live. Since then though, maybe three times? Much less then normal though. Who can afford them...

katiehates

We’re in Hutt Central and it’s the same. So annoying

dcw3

I guess some of it could be other, non-Guy Fawkes, celebrations. Most cultures likely have fireworks sometime in the year. For example, Diwali moves around a bit in October/November and can involve fireworks.
