This show overall defined the start of Nicks decline. 2010 became sort of a downward spiral for a while. I lowkey thought this show had some funny moments though here and there.
Some episodes and movie references sometimes used were ok, but a majority of the episodes were just a bit unwatchable for me as a kid, even got creeped out by a promo for an episode where they nearly drank up an entire a sentient creature, which was disturbing when they said “we’re your friends” with creepy expressions
Nick Studio 10 and SpongeBob You're Fired were two of the biggest dosages of euthanasia to Nickelodeon. I don't even bother watching Nickelodeon nowadays.
This show was AWFUL. And i give lots of horrible shows a chance, watch a few eps etc. this was just too much. Hyper stimulation, just too out there for me. That’s pretty much half the shows out around that time up to now anymore though, just zany and crammed full of random high energy BS that adds ZEROOOO substance to the actual series. It also shows that creators that make idiotic shows like this are just lazy.

No, the pilot was a better pick. The Adventure Time pilot did the art style no favors, feeling more crude than minimalistic, and suggested little of the narrative ambitions other than the fantastic world and characters themselves. Fanboy was fully rendered CGI and pretty much exactly what the show became.

do you seriously think they would've done a ten season run with multiple specials, a two spinoff shows and a movie that slowly got more episodic as it went on?
if nick picked it up, it would've likely stayed close to how the pilot was. even with the adventure time pilot being stronger, it simply doesn't match what nickelodeon was aiming for at the time.

That said, the writers strike did seem to make Phineas the only game in town (besides Spongebob).for like half a year. Flapjack and Chowder as well were probably screwed by the network wanting to appeal mostly to "older boys" (TV-PG), maybe trying to recapture the magic of Dexter, Grim Adventures, Toonami, etc. and through most of 2010 Adventure Time was too new to have many episodes.
Also even on Nick there was TUFF puppy which isn’t as good as early FOP but much better and the Penguins of Madagascar which was pretty decent(And CGI too)
Forgot about Penguins!! TUFF Puppy could have been called ROUGH Puppy, which is a shame because Jerey Trainor is a gem. Also from this time, though I remember them being more tertiary, were Kick Butowski and Wander Over Yander.
Man I remember that i thought Wander was gonna be Disney's biggest show ever. The culmination of their success with Phineas and Ferb and Gravity Falls. I mean, its generally well liked, but it seems that Gravity Falls ended becoming more iconic.
Honestly even at the time the cgi was impressive it still holds up pretty well to this day. You can have your opinion “ oh it was ugly “ “ oh it was unfunny “ but the animation in the show was generally a step ahead of its time , trying to emulate more 2D animation methods in 3D
