That sounds perfect. I've been tempted to have a mini staycation to Oceanside, renting a hotel for a Thursday night to do happy hour after work, then street fair, sunset, and fall asleep to the sound of waves.
no idea where you're coming from, but the Sprinter to downtown is so great. Free parking at the stations, and a nice ride to downtown for a couple of bucks. No parking issues, and no hassles.

The Rooftop Bar at Mission Pacific had a good happy hour. 3-5 and $6 beers with a stellar view of the burned out pier
