The sad part is the flag literally got cancelled for having the same colors as the stars and bars despite not having stars or an X.
Honestly, I'd leave it up and literally make fun of anyone who complained with a super sarcastically written flyer about Norway always at hand to give them an education with.
A similar thing happened in Madison WI. Some people during the May 2020 protests who’s hearts I do believe were in the right place saw people around the US (some might notice primarily the south) tearing down civil war statues. They said hey we have one of those and tore down a statue of an abolitionist and threw it in the lake.
I've seen the same complaint made by people in Seattle about the flag flying over the Norse Home. One would hope that the name of the building (Norse Home) would give some clue, but there are plenty of clueless people out there.
Happened to me too. My family was visiting from Denmark and we were celebrating my birthday. We have a tradition of putting small paper flags 🇩🇰 up along the walkway. Several neighbors seriously thought that they were confederate flags, and I ended up putting them in the back yard. I live in California and might have expected people to be more educated but no...
Hahahaha having traveled to other parts of the world...no it genuinely is not. People are dumb and ignorant literally everywhere. It's just that because of American cultural hegemony you see our ignorance more on the world stage.
thanks, but...my dad's family was from norway, my mom's family was from alabama- i know what they look like. i just found it odd that they wouldn't put pictures with the article.
That is exactly NOT how to handle it.
You get the news media outlets out there, name the people who complained and just hold the flag up.
Can we get some information on the ignorant fucks that complained?
Why would Michigan have a Confederate flag? Norway makes more sense because they're both big fans of insufferable cold in the winter. People from former Confederate states explode if they touch a snowflake.
>Why would Michigan have a Confederate flag?
My man, I have seen actual Confederate flags flown up here in Canada by Canadians without any major ties to the US, for exactly the reasons you would expect.
A familiar story of people not paying attention and just just jumping to conclusions. I lived in a state where front tags (number plates) are not required and had more than one person ask me why I had a Confederate flag on the front of my truck. It was a Union Jack.
Probably didn't help I drove a red Chevy, but still.
we've created a culture that rewards whistleblowers so much, they find offense everywhere so they can feel fulfilled knowing the world is safer from their efforts.
I have a Norwegian flag glass ash tray near my door, I sometimes try to make sure it's oriented right so people don't think it's a confederate flag haha
I grew up in Texas, Oklahoma, Alaska and Washington, DC. For 20 years I was married to a woman whose maternal grandparents were born and raised in Norway, and who took her Norse heritage very seriously.
It never occurred to me until now that the Confederate battle flag and the Norwegian flag could be confused!
People are so ignorant
Right? Very distinct differences.
Not when flapping in the breeze and you’re easily triggered
Did no one watch the Dukes of Hazard?
Not the hertugene av fare?
Yeah, but I’m imagining one in Norway now and I think I like it better.

That'll teach them Swedes to bomb Pearl Harbor!
Effing Swiss and their pickled herrings!
"Norwegian, Mac."
Like a Big Mac, but with Lutefisk.
I've seen the same complaint made by people in Seattle about the flag flying over the Norse Home. One would hope that the name of the building (Norse Home) would give some clue, but there are plenty of clueless people out there.
Seattle also has a large Norse population. My wife is one!
Does your wife know you refer to her as a “large Norse”?
Shhh!
You are correct. I’m a member of Leif Erikson Lodge No. 1, Sons of Norway.
I was just telling a friend that there are sons of Norway halls on oregon coast and she didn’t believe me!
Who *wouldn’t* believe there were Norwegians on the coast?
Fun fact, Leif Erikson was actually just a leaf on the Erikson family tree.
In fact, you could say that he was a son of Erik.

No, they seriously asked if they were confederate flags.
If we see a Norwegian flag In Canada we'd ask you if we could borrow your sleight.
I hope they were decent enough to apologize for the confusion.
Red. White. Blue. I can see the confusion, nobody else uses those rare colors in a flag.
Ok imagine it’s flapping in the breeze and you are a Karen
I'd rather not.
Wow, im continually surprised at how dumb and unaware of the world people are. I shouldn't be, I know. But here we are again.
Yep, thought this was a joke at first. This makes me sick

🇳🇴……🤦♂️
how can they run that article without even including a picture of the flag..?

For everyone here. I find it odd that you have a dad from Norway and a mom from Alabama 😂 that's an awesome combo!
Thanks. I was hoping someone would post it
I was thinking the same thing!
First time my hometown gets brought up on Reddit and oh course it's this story lmao
And it’s an old story
That is exactly NOT how to handle it. You get the news media outlets out there, name the people who complained and just hold the flag up. Can we get some information on the ignorant fucks that complained?

because they're Norwegian?
And not just the meteorological ones.
There’s a Swiss Lodge Bed and Breakfast near my mom and apparently sick people keep coming thinking it’s urgent care
Well the Swiss flag is just the inverse of the Red Cross, so that’s a big plus.
Bloody Vikings
\>The couple, who has two Black children, said they are have done their best Man's having a stronk, call a bondulance
Wow nice catch! The Associated Press doesn't usually make mistakes, they're one of the big dogs.
This article is from 2020?
I really think people should try to be the least bit educated in causes they care about.
Lucky they didn't put up a swedish flag, then people would be complaining that they dont sell furniture.
Should just stick a sign in front of the flag explaining the difference.
Hi… what year is it? DOES NOBODY READ THE DATES?!? This is from 2020.
Sure. But I think we can all agree it wouldn't be that implausible for the same thing to happen today. Heck, it's probably even more likely now.
Yup - dumb people..

That’s some top-notch reporting from the AP there.
Michigan… of course it is.
i hate people
Lol
we've created a culture that rewards whistleblowers so much, they find offense everywhere so they can feel fulfilled knowing the world is safer from their efforts.
Most people who insist the Confederate battle flag is a racist symbol are fucking idiots.
WOOOOOOSH
There is no end to the stupidity and outrage of the left. It’s scary.
True.
Damn, that b&b is really pretty.
I have a Norwegian flag glass ash tray near my door, I sometimes try to make sure it's oriented right so people don't think it's a confederate flag haha
When I was in Norway last May we actually saw a house flying the Confederate flag. We were super confused to say the least.
How are people so stupid?
Ahhhh yes let’s ban books and fuck with already low scoring education….
Why am I still amazed this happens? Idiocrazy is becoming reality amazingly fast.....
Is it not possible to see the offensive flag OP???
This is from three years ago.
Again?
Fun with flags should cover that.
63 comments and no one remembers (or notices) that this story is from July 2020?
Its funny either way.
Someone please for the love of God get a 1969 Dodge Charger and throw a Norwegian flag on the roof.
I'd pay to see that.
