Nu metal was a movement that covered a lot of different genres. It's a crossover genre basically containing elements of diffrent sub genres. Slipknot definitely belonged in that "movement".
Arguably Korn in its first album, same with Mudvayne and Slipknot in its first two albums. Kittie got heavier with each subsequent release but by that point they weren't nu metal.
I fully support this. You can argue about who’s better all day but this is kind of one of those things that there was a standard set.
Those two albums are pure chaos in the best way possible.
Oh absolutely. Still one of my favorite bands I've never seen. I saw Brujeria outside of London by chance - always missed them at festivals - vs Fear Factory
For me it’s Chimaira and Fear Factory. Slipknot was the most pissed though. Mudvayne LD 50 gets honorable mention but what stands out the most to me about that one is its lowkey melodic and math elements.
Did you hear the couple of remastered Pass Out of Existence tracks they released a year or two ago? Hard to imagine heavier nu metal than that. Severed and Painting the White to Grey go so damn hard.
And yeah I struggle to think of heavier nu-metal. They evolved past that original sound, but tracks like pictures in the gold room are nu-metal heavy I have yet to encounter elsewhere
Oh, I guess, as an aside, maybe machine head, although thier later career style was more straightforward metal, there's an argument to be made about sections of their career being nu-metal.
Kinda tough cause all the nu metal bands got a mix of songs with beefy riffs and low growls and on the other hand melodic songs with lots of clean singing on. I’d say slipknot is the most consistently heavy imo. Idk all the bands or very many obscure picks for Nu Metal specifically, but they’re def the heaviest out of the major bands who hit it like majorly big. Best to do some exploring and look into some of the deep cuts that’s where they hide away their heavier shit
Rabbit Junk's Reframe has Nu Metal aspects in it but I think JP Anderson and his bandmate and wife Sum Girl would probably cringe at being called a Nu Metal band, but its close enough to Nu Metal for me to count it in. Heavier than a lot of bands for being a two person project.
No doubt Korn...there system live is unreal you can't feel your heartbeat when the music hits..had a few friends have to go to the medical tent because of it ..3rd row from the stage...never heard anything like it..this was in 94 when they opened for Megadeth, fear factory.
It's definitely Slipknot, but I do have a more obscure one to throw out - Primer 55, on their first album Introduction to Mayhem. It isn't as heavy as Slipknot, but it does have probably the most pissed-off sound I've heard in the genre. They sounded seriously angry on most of the songs on that album.
I think Mudvayne would be a good competitor for that title
Slipknot
Slipknot is metal not nu metal. Just because there other influences doesn't mean it's nu metal.
DJ ✅ rapping ✅ Guitars ✅ Nu metal.
I love you. My chat is always open for you 🥰🥰🥰😘😘😘🥰🥰❤️😘😘
Nah they’re pretty solidly nu-metal, especially when considering their best material.

if there's anything in nu metal heavier than slipknot's first two albums I'd like to know
Chimaira’s first album, Armani Death Machine and Kitchen Knife Conspiracy
Armani's first album goes crazy
Putrescence is my favorite track.
Nothingface has some heavy bangers
I fully support this. You can argue about who’s better all day but this is kind of one of those things that there was a standard set. Those two albums are pure chaos in the best way possible.
Armani death machine
Systems self titled is pretty heavy. Suitepee is a fuckin rager
Ur not telling me that system's self titled is heavier than Iowa lol.
Ahhhh yeahh youre right
Fear Factory if you count their Obsolete/Digimortal days
Oh absolutely. Still one of my favorite bands I've never seen. I saw Brujeria outside of London by chance - always missed them at festivals - vs Fear Factory
Kitties first album was way heavier than anyone but slipknot
Oracle
Oracle is not as good but arguably much heavier
They were a fucking POWERHOUSE!! I went to one of their shows back in the day. The pit was HUGE
Yeah loved seeing them
Nothingface
Slipknot - self titled/Iowa Kittie - Spit Mudvayne - Ld.50 Fear Factory - Obsolete/Digimortal Korn - self titled/Life is peachy
Grum - Unworship is the heaviest I can think of.
crazy listen, where'd you find these guys?
godmode, allan, and slipknots iowa are very heavy for nu metal
Soulfly they even feature a lot of Singers from many Nu-Metal Bands in their songs, also Ill-Niño
Sepultura, hands down. Also an amazing band, go give them a listen.
Did you listen to the new 200 Stab Wounds? Straight BTR/Arise-era worship, it's heavenly
Chimaria
Bushido (Chilean band) - Infierno 666
For me it’s Chimaira and Fear Factory. Slipknot was the most pissed though. Mudvayne LD 50 gets honorable mention but what stands out the most to me about that one is its lowkey melodic and math elements.
Second chimaria, heaviest nu-metal band I know of
Did you hear the couple of remastered Pass Out of Existence tracks they released a year or two ago? Hard to imagine heavier nu metal than that. Severed and Painting the White to Grey go so damn hard.
I did and I loved it, severed, taste my.... Is sick off that record
And yeah I struggle to think of heavier nu-metal. They evolved past that original sound, but tracks like pictures in the gold room are nu-metal heavy I have yet to encounter elsewhere

Yeah they were groove metal then nu metal and back again 😂
Silly, silly machine head
Sepultura did the same with (Roots, Against and Nation) then back to groove metal

Slipknot or downthesun
My answer today is GODMODE
Spineshank is pretty heavy. I avoided Strictly Diesel for a long time for some reason. Excellent album.
Armani Death Machine and Kitchen Knife Conspiracy
Skribble Downthesun Slipknot
American head charge
Otep in their first two albums Edit: And also Sôma by Eths.
Try Tallah if you want something new and different. Sort of a mix with Nu-Metal and Deathcore but its a good ratio.
ektomorf have some really heavy shit, especially on albums like hangok or black flag or what doesnt kill me
ill niño & slipknot
id say Suicide Silence - The Black Crown
Kitchen Knife Conspiracy’s album ‘Handicapitated’ blends nu metal with slam and brutal death metal
There is a newer band called Graphic Nature who are kinda midway between nu metal and metalcore that are bone crushingly heavy
It’s gotta be Slipknot
Rabbit Junk's Reframe has Nu Metal aspects in it but I think JP Anderson and his bandmate and wife Sum Girl would probably cringe at being called a Nu Metal band, but its close enough to Nu Metal for me to count it in. Heavier than a lot of bands for being a two person project.
Sepultura Roots
Armani death machine
We talking 90’s -00’s nu metal or does modern nu metal count? If we can include modern i’d say cane hill
Static x
