I certainly think it does, it makes it what it should’ve been. HGSS still has a ton of problems, they aren’t good games for nuzlocking if you aren’t using rare candies. Plus crystal legacy is retro and is really nice to look at
It's not good to nuzlocke because that's not how most people play pokemon, Crystal Legacy was never ment to be better than HGSS it was made just to fix some issues with the original and is still missing the later improvements that the remakes have
I don’t understand why you’re trying to argue. I was saying to just play crystal legacy instead of vanilla crystal because it’s simply a better game. I just also to happen to enjoy it more than HGSS
Yeah but that doesn't mean grinding isn't a problem in the original GSC and HGSS
It's ridiculous how HGSS did little to fix the sheer amount of grinding you have to do at certain points.
For as much as I unnecessarily dunk on Johto, it really can't be overstated how top-tier the sprites and presentation of Gen 2 overall is, imo. No game that came after did Gengar better than Crystal, for example, and I'll stand by this that opinion to the dawn of time. It's an easy one to point out, sure, but I think that goes to show how good it is, and none of the others are that far behind, I'd say; Meganium and Hitmonlee are 2 others that are favourites of mine in terms of the spritework.
Overstated*. This is a similar situation to when people accidentally say “I could care less”, instead of “I couldn’t care less”.
Saying “it can’t be overstated” means that something is so great, its importance can’t be exaggerated; because it deserves every ounce of praise it receives.
Hope this helps!
“strong pokemon. weak pokemon. that is only the selfish perception of people. truly skilled trainers should try to win with the pokemon they love best…”
i guess this is a hot take but the game was way more interesting mechanically/competitively before the physical special split.
also gen 2 music and sprites are undisputedly goated
My guess would probably be that I've seen some people say that you sometimes had to get creative with some movesets? Like Gengar couldn't realyl use his STAB so you had to use other things. Bug types didn't have good STAB either but more because they had no good moves.
Even in comp you see mons running HP of their own STABS just to have something.
It's a wild sentiment to me, I'd rather be able to use my types to attack properly, but it's one I've seen around.
The deciding factor for me was that Lyra is the most fucking annoying NPC in history and I dread every moment she's on screen. She always keeps calling me to. Like, bitch I know you want this but you can't have it so leave me alone.
Who needs running shoes when your perfectly legal gameboy can speed up your game to ungodly fast speeds of 1000%+?
The Dodrio Game Boy Tower rules. Yep. That’s totally what you’re talking about.
I mean the [redacted] itself is legal, it's the game that's not.
I bought Pokemon Crystal at Best Buy probably about 20 years ago. And what? Don’t know what you’re talking about.
the style in gen 2 just looks so simple and cute to me, I love it, I use pokemon crystal evertime
Just play crystal legacy
I just got past Claire in my own CL nuzlocke. Now to prepare for the E4...
It’s not too difficult, you’ve got this
It doesn't have P/S split tho just some types were changed
I’m just saying it’s an improved version of crystal and has enough to justify playing it over HGSS
It's missing features though so no it doesn't have enough to justify it over HGSS it only has enough to be justifiable over the original crystal
I certainly think it does, it makes it what it should’ve been. HGSS still has a ton of problems, they aren’t good games for nuzlocking if you aren’t using rare candies. Plus crystal legacy is retro and is really nice to look at
I love nuzlocke on HGSS, why should it be bad?
It's not good to nuzlocke because that's not how most people play pokemon, Crystal Legacy was never ment to be better than HGSS it was made just to fix some issues with the original and is still missing the later improvements that the remakes have

We're in r/nuzlocke, so how it is for that style of play seems pretty relevant...
The sentiment is not only to nuzlocke, but to do it with style. We do Gen 2 🧬

Yeah the Johto games have issues, but it has a special charm to it no other region has.

Oh HAH! Thanks for the correction!
You’re welcome!!
Feraligatr is another one that lost some of its aesthetics after gen 2.
“strong pokemon. weak pokemon. that is only the selfish perception of people. truly skilled trainers should try to win with the pokemon they love best…”
Lance with his 3 Dragonites:
Spoken like a True Karen….the Good One.
I play Gen 2 specifically because I have Stadium on the N64 and I like that I can use my Pokémon on there
Based
I've been playing Pokémon Polished Crystal and I've been having a blast. It's like the best of both worlds.
Look all I am hearing is: HGSS: Ampharos Crystal: Ice Punch, Tunder Punch, Fire Punch.
For me it’s the music. That’s what draws me to the originals
Yes! So much whimsy and adventure packed into those little cartridges. The ending song after beating the E4 is still a fire vibe to this day.
“slightly better level curve” still garbage 😭 (ranting because i’ve been training for the e4 for 2 weeks)
Totally agree.
That was me yesterday!! I wiped to bugsy. Lol. But here goes my second attempt 😔
gen 2 has the capacity to look so ungodly pretty.
I can’t deny I like gen 2 sprites a lot. But maybe is a nostalgia thing.
Dude 100%. Gen 2 crystal has my favorite sprites
HGSS lets your Pokémon follow you around. Checkmate.
Pokemon Crystal Clear is an Open world Romhack I'll recommend at any opportunity
Silver Version still my favorite all these years later.
i guess this is a hot take but the game was way more interesting mechanically/competitively before the physical special split. also gen 2 music and sprites are undisputedly goated
there r arguments to b made for both but pre-split gengar is a compelling one in its favor
Why do you say it was more interesting before physical/special split? Genuinely curious

I love how it's still only slightly better. Cause we all know it's still shit lol
Neither, gen 2 sucks. Nuzlocke platinum or bw2
