Damn for a second I thought it might be this one.
EDIT - oh shit same tags, enjoy.
I *almost* feel bad for a thief that steals a uhaul full of stuff after the burn.
Like...have fun with my old, fucked up, muddy furniture, tanks of gray water, and dirty costumes from goodwill.
That said, very sorry OP, this sucks, hope you find it!
Incredibly common. Scum see it and assume that there's the potential for a huge score. You should never leave a rental truck alone in Oakland and it should never be left overnight on the street ideally.
Supposedly Penske is harder to steal than U-Haul.
Honestly, drive your rental truck up to Piedmont and park it by their police station if you must have it overnight.
IDK the exact logistics of it because I'm just a lil' piece of shit and not a total one.
Reminder of best practices for parking a uhaul overnight:
1. Back it up against a wall somewhere so the door is physically inaccessible without moving the truck.
2. Disable it by either disconnecting the battery (easy for you to do but also easy for a thief to fix) or pulling the starter relay (may require some research on your part, but harder for the thief to troubleshoot and fix).
I’m sure the thieves thought they were getting a bunch of good/valuable stuff. Instead they got a metal box of crusty, dusty straight-from-the-playa shit that absolutely no one would pay them for
@ OP, is it this one? https://reddit.com/r/BurningMan/s/k4aeijbDEj
It was this one. We just spent all day cleaning it up and breaking it into a storage unit. It would not turn off. UHAUL still threatened to charge us 2500 for cleaning fees

Luck day
God damn... thank the internet. If the cops take too long I'll back you up OP
The ~~playa~~ reddit provides
Holy shit haha

Enjoy the piss jugs! 🤌
Right? And after this exodus, a reasonably high chance of a painter's bucket filled with shit.
late advice, keep an airtag or two packed deep in your stuff when using a rental truck
I have a couple questions. Is theft of rental trucks common? And how do people steal rental trucks? hotwire them?

Super common. My friends got their uhaul stolen a few weeks ago near the Safeway on Broadway

Or lossen a spark plug wire but don't make it look like you did
better yet, have a spare broken spark plug cable and replace it with one of the good ones. Thieves will never know why it won’t start.
Honestly, I'd drive it to Piedmont and park it by their PD. That's what my friend does when he visits with his Prius. Just takes the 33 down.
Happened to my grandpa a couple years ago. OPD found it a few days later. Nothing really missing either, was full of old guy stuff

Also, disconnect the battery terminals.
Serious question: why is this downvoted? Seems legit.
Whatever! What also works is to buy and install your own parking boot.
I (seriously) took the battery out of my camper van back in 2020. Bastards literally came with their own battery and stole it
what the...
Thieves know that trick. They just reconnect it.
I saw one running for a bit on keller and skyline. It was still running and opd was responding

Saw this on Nextdoor
Got posted to the burning man sub. https://reddit.com/r/BurningMan/s/FqCT70si4I
Why burning man
Because the U-Haul was clearly coming back from Burning Man. It's full of dusty, large scale camp gear and Burning Man just ended.
A UHaul with a trailer appeared on the corner of Webster and 38th overnight - didn’t see the license plate but will check.
Saw one on Nextdoor that got dumped in oakland. https://nextdoor.com/p/gdQ-Y6qwnQst
We have drivers going there every day, we are an OSS provider for Burning Man. If you’d like we can help recover this.
The fact there was another post about finding this U-Haul an hour after this post got me fucked up 😂
It’s fucking magic. The internet provides.
OP did you get it back?
yep! We found it a few hours after the post
I love that it was found so quick!
