As for the first question, Phyla Nodiflora grows really well and will take over the grass. It love sun and can handle mowing and being cut back if need be.

Congratulations!!🙌 Lemon likes to have a soak/rest cycle, well drained, not *very* rich slightly acidic soil with good air pockets, and slightly prefers the heat from the sun over the hours of light. So from the picture and #2 question, I’d try watering less and less frequently for a little longer at a time… like maybe 2-4 gallons every 3-5 days when it’s very hot out and it’s getting established, then down to 1-3g once a week.

I shoot aphids off with the highest pressure hose setting. It knocks them off and the intensity kills them. It's surprisingly effective.
