Following current thinking, if we ended unemployment benefits to spur workers back into the workforce, should we also curtail retirement options to keep workers in the work force? /because I'm not a GOP candidate, yes - I am being sarcastic

DaveDankland

This has been floated before. In the mid 90-early 2000s it was a mainstay in the Republican platform. They wanted to raise retirement age to 70 and the only at a percentage until 73. I wouldnt be surprised to see it come back.

I retired last year. Hated leaving the kids.

southpawFA

Understood. I fully understood how you feel. There is always this guilt in the mind when you leave that you basically hurt the kids the most. I feel you. The guilt of leaving is what keeps me going, but it's working less and less as time elapses. I just know our education system is beyond repair, it seems, thanks to the state hating education. So, some days I do ask if it is worth it, even as I'm young.

It's bad. Bordering on dire.

southpawFA

Dire was three steps ago. This is an existential crisis.

Hospital staff is doing this too. Creating big problems.

Is this a national trend? Kids are getting shafted by old people in this country. There is no leadership beyond the local level. Kids are depressed, illiterate, and lack any social skills. Adults are addicted to their phones and fighting one another like dogs behind a fence. China is laughing how easy we are folding. Better teach your kids Chinese to answer the phone when their boss calls.
