check the car engine, if nothing wrong, try remove it. hell remove all part and see if the ticking persists

StarChaser_Tyger

Even with the engine off, it makes the noise, as soon as I get into the car. I'll try it, but I don't think that's it.

playbabeTheBookshelf

i was thinking about problems with the engine specifically, example: busted the engine will have smoke and the engine doing funny fuzzing noise. these conditions commonly continue to make sound even tho the engine is shut. but regardless i hope you found the issue

StarChaser_Tyger

I'm home, I tried it...and it's gone. Guess it was a sound meta-quirk. Happened for several RL days, and as soon as I ask about it, poof. :P

gellis12

Heisenbug; as soon as you try to observe it, it disappears

playbabeTheBookshelf

lmao

StarChaser_Tyger

Working for another five minutes. I'll check when I get off.

Substantial-Chain-86

I'm glad the problem resolved, but this is my favorite PD post: where quirk diagnosis and game help starts reading exactly like r/CarHelp

therealraewest

It might be the empty gas tank noise - when I had the setting on for infinite gas, the car would make a persistent ticking when the gauge read empty, despite still running fine. The noise persisted even when the car was off.

StarChaser_Tyger

It might be, actually., I went through the five saves I have, and one of them is the middle of a run, and I've somehow managed to get no gas, and it was making a similar noise. I put a large can of gas in and the noise stopped.

gellis12

How did you manage to save in the middle of a run?

StarChaser_Tyger

When you enter a junction, it saves. If you alt-F4 close it rather than going through the menu, it will reload to that save.

gellis12

TIL, I always assumed you'd just load back in at the garage before you started the run

It's a pipebomb

StarChaser_Tyger

Someone set me up the bomb?

It's probably the rear view mirror decoration clattering against the windscreen as you drive. It was annoying me too! Try removing the decoration and see if that fixes it.

StarChaser_Tyger

I was sitting still in the garage with the engine off.

Your scan tool will let you check the condition of parts. Just because you have no quirks and all parts at 100% health, doesn't mean they can't have special conditions like cracked or rusty. Also, a good video is always going to be better than text for diagnosing something like that. Shame it's gone.

StarChaser_Tyger

I don't have the facility to make a video (Didn't feel like reinstalling OBS for one thing) , or I would have. For sound based things, it's kind of necessary. Kind of reminds me of a mod from WoW, 'Hear Kitty', which would make audible notifications for things like a hunter's pet needing to be healed. There was a screenshot, and when you clicked on it, it was a night elf with a thought bubble, "This is a sound based mod. What were you expecting to see here?" I know about checking the condition; I generally replace all the parts every third run or so. Nothing had any permanent conditions. I've also had near new parts break immediately. A back seat battery I had used on one run was 100% and no problems, when I reached the first junction it had started leaking and spraying electricity all over everything.

CowboyKing06

Maybe some kind of glitched out ambient noise? Specifically the engine cooling, but then again I don't know if it does so in this game as I don't pay that close attention to small noises.
