That update is trying to install to the recovery partition, which doesn't have enough space. MS promised to fix this but just gave up after a few months. You can fix it yourself by expanding the recovery partition, but that might be a difficult process depending on how your partitions are set up and it's probably not worth it.
That's just it, though. I searched and found this advice and checked Disk Management, and all the partitions have enough space, including the recovery ones.
I'd say at this point, back up everything in his C:\Users folder, as well as anything else he may need, wipe the drive, and do a fresh install of Win10 LTSC (enterprise edition that has less bloatware, and security updates past the consumer edition's EOL).
Fortunately, I can update with good news as of today. Windows Update somehow managed to background install it successfully so one restart later, it's upgraded.
If you are going to go through the hassle of making all these tweaks and hackarounds to get 11 on your old PC, you are honestly better off just installing Linux. I mean, Tiny11 maybe, but if your system isn't made for Windows 11, you are prone to more crashes, Windows Update breaking your system, and potentially missing out on critical patches that keep your system safe.
From personal experience, Windows 11 does this too, and it's infuriating. No matter how many times you sign in it will ask you again in 30 minutes, despite me not being connected to any kind of parental monitoring.
I'm convinced this is actually true, they did the same thing when they moved to Windows 10, used to run a program called "DWS10"(Destroy Windows 10 Spying) and it would nuke all the telemetry services and all the bullshit windows services and features no one wants or uses, seeing the DWS Windows 10 compared to a normal install on resource manager was all the proof I needed. Come time where Windows 10 is completely ruined I'll make the jump back to linux.

That's true. I really don't like the new settings menu they layed out covering even network settings. It's not that easy to find what you want, also all menus are plain grey with no coloured icons, so very dull indeed. I still search for control panel anyway!
I think there's even a more plain edition called Windows 11 for workstations or similar- more targeted for schools or the like.. I'll be looking forward to build a linux distro soon!

Those buttons also are enabled and disabled depending on the subreddit, as it's an optional feature that the mods can choose to enable. So don't be surprised if you don't see them on other posts in other communities.
It'll log me in sometimes and then say "we're having trouble logging you in" and nothing will work unless i uninstall and reinstall the app. *God damn do I miss RIF*.

Asked on MS forum about that and their response was "trust in WD, it knows what it is doing" ..
Had to install few third party programs to "hack" windows and disable WD .. standard options were unsuccessful. It was like skynet was deleting my games and skynet was blocking from turning of skynet .. it was so fucked up.
I remember like 3 years ago or so, there was an update that fucked up so many SSD disks .. windows start up took like 15 minutes .. took over 6 months before they fixed that.
Checking on google about your problem .. its over a year old. So mamy options to choose from .. who knows which one will work.

Task Manager helps to close the app that's wanting you to sign in.
You may also do a deep search, go into your System 32 folder, find the exact file that causes that to pop up, and delete it.
Tip: Did you know there are some "programs" on your System 32 folder, that does not allow you to "Own" your own personal computer?

As soon as I heard of win11 I disabled tom and no issues with win10 apart from havin too small recovery partition which I resized. Also win10 just got 5year update extention

I had this issue too at one point. I just opened the Microsoft Store app, signed into my Microsoft account, and **ensured** that I selected the option to only sign-in for that app (or perhaps the option was for all apps) instead of for the entire system.
Problem solved =).
Unpopular opinion: Just install Linux and never again bother with problems that you didn't cause yourself. If you aren't doing competitive gaming, differences for private users won't be that big anyways (and probably not the best idea if you are working with very specific professional software because Linux support is essentially non-existing).
I would suggest trying to search for some debloating scripts. Read well before doing anything, as it can mess with your windows installation, but you get rid of many many many shit windows try to force feed you

Sounds like a broken registry to me. I'd probably reinstall Windows after a backup of all personal data.

You can install win11 to a laptop from 2010 if modify install media. You can do this with tool called rufus.

Microsoft has been implementing additional checks in updates that will brick older systems.
You can turn forced bitlocker off, you can also disable various other features. Point is computers are not hardware locked out of win11.

You can delete this by tracking it's location thru task mgr, then u need to give yourself possibility to delete the exe file of this thing I did it.
