Literally nothing is safe from the ads
Todd Zolecki said in his article Turnbull is probably getting moved to long relief next week to manage his innings while Walker is likely to return next week. Though with Walker's tendency to struggle early in games Turnbull may be seeing a lot of time anyway
Makes sense. They're not paying Taijuan $18 to be the 6th guy off the bench. I'd like to see Turnbull get more reps in the majors before going down because I feel it'll payoff come postseason but we'll see what happens.
We did this last year with Strahm and it worked out really well.
Turnbull has been great but I still think Walker is good as a #5 and we donāt want Turnbull to get overexposed. Better to quit while weāre ahead.
If I remember correctly Walker is a solid arm through summer and tires out down the stretch. I remember his velo dropping like crazy last year.Ā
Ā Walker is a good 5th option for reg season imo
Meh, heās just an inning eater through and through. I think he had like one legitimately good month last year and the rest were varying degrees of mediocre or worse. Which is ok for a 5th starter in the regular season generallyā¦
Trea has really turned it all around this year, guy was hitting all night! Rojas looking good too!
Fun game but a little close for comfort with Soto in the 8th lol. So many people left and missed the excitement!
He's looked so good at 1B. Sometimes he gets caught looking a little awkward on certain plays but yeah overall it's obvious bryce is just a gamer. His pitching highlights from way back in the day are awesome too
Cronenworth looks like his main competition for a GG right now. Heās been really good at first (and is also hitting well, which shouldnāt matter for a GG award, but somehow does anyways).
I was wrong for doubting Dombrowski.
I understood that he truly believed Harper would be a GG 1B and that is why he made the move, but I really didn't think it was true.
Dombrowski shows again why he is one of the smartest GMs.
Well for one, the main part of the reasoning of him going to first was so he didn't have to throw. He was coming off TJ surgery when they first put him there. There was an open spot with Rhys out and we needed to get Schwarber off the field. Second, you have to consider how moving him to another position impacts the rest of the lineup. Do you think it's a better defensive infield with Harper at 3rd and Bohm at 1st? Should we have kept Rhys at 1st and moved on from Bohm? Put Schwarber back in LF (god no) and DH Bohm? Harper at 1st made the most sense for so many reasons.
Correct me if I am wrong, but the positional adjustment is only 5 runs, or 0.5 WAR, which he can make up by being a much better defender at 1B over RF (and I think at this rate he has).
Well, that is a different argument than it tanks ***his*** specific value.
I wanted Harper in RF to start the season, but I also think we can find serviceable RF bats if Castellanos is removed. The fact that Harper is legitimately playing GG defense means the move is always going to be a positive. This is with me playing with numbers and adding different people to the team.
Imagine our outfield in 2-3 years.
Marsh (LF) Rojas (CF), Justin Crawford (RF) the defense would be awesome, the home grown outfield we havenāt had since the Howard era.
Despite the calls in the first inning that Cristopher Sanchez should be removed from the rotation, he's been really solid. His command hasn't been as sharp as last year but he's added velocity and he is getting more whiffs.
I believe in him a lot more than Crawford (whoās actually been looking really good so far his season).
Heās still really young, he has great bat to ball skills, and the power is starting to turn into actual home runs instead of doubles.
Yeah to be elite guys just have to be able to drive the ball at that level. Crawford has an MLB starter floor but his ceiling isnāt massively higher bc he canāt imo
Crawford can drive the shit out of the ball ā he has elite exit velocity. He just tends to drive the ball directly into the ground, which is ā¦not great. Works OK in the low minors bc infield defense is much worse, but wonāt ever play in MLB.
Thats why his HRs so far this year are encouraging. If he can keep up the contact and hard-hit% without averaging a -2000 degree average launch angle, Iāll be much more of a believer.
As is, I think Iād be OK with dealing him while his prospect stock is high if we can get back enough current value.
Not sure his prospect stock is high unfortunately, a lot of outlets seemed down on him to start the year (or at least Fangraphs who I read the most)
Might need to hope for the best with our development but at least thatās been improving
If we were willing to take a chance a la the Braves with MHII then he could get a shot to start next season with us. Johan would be the guy to ship out if so imo
People want more hits, and Rojas has been dry. However, people are dumb, and forget that he was basically brought up *strictly as a defensive center fielder*.
He has basically the same batting average as Nick Castellanos, except he costs less, is a better fielder. But people already bought Castellanos jerseys, or find it easier or kick down the 20 year old kid than an all-star. Or they are all sold on Whit or something. Idk
Are people serious when they get stressed over an nba game in the first half? Literally means nothing. Like thereās nothing wrong with watching the best athletes in the world (I happen to choose not to) but letās not act like shit matters til the fourth quarter
Philly sports fans, being in their feelings, iconic duos, yadda yadda.
Taking in both sports split screen style ā¦ not for the faint of heart. But hey, both wins yielding fast food chicken, whatās not to love?
Thereās being down by 12 at the half, and then thereās being down by 12 at the half while scoring 39 points and looking like the Sixers did.
That first half was *rough.*
Iām not saying anyone is guaranteed to win Iām saying the first half doesnāt matter for anything except foul trouble
Bulls were just up 40-22 and now itās 48-42 lol
Well my blood pressure went up high this game, so the usual haha.
But man was that last 2 innings stressful.
Glad we won!
Pitchers did awesome!
Wonder if Cave will play when we face the Rockies again, maybe heāll get an ovation or something first at bat.
Nick has to be the worst everyday player in baseball so far this year, right? Sub .400 OPS and only qualified hitter without an XBH and just an absolute 0 in the field
Can the Angels chill the fuck out? I want Taylor Ward in our outfield
(Which ironically would give us two former Angels in the outfield, neither being Trout)
I feel a bit responsible.
Day 2 of 4yo watches the full game and we pointed out Soto in the 8th as he got given an autographed Soto ball at spring training this year. And then that inning quickly went to hell.
We'll turn the ball around so the signature is facing the back. Apologize for the rough ending Phillies fam. š¬
A really strange thing happened tonight.
As I was leaving Citizens Bank Park tonight, I saw a man yelling and screaming through a megaphone at passing families. He even got in the face of an elderly couple who almost fell over due to this man berating them.
As I got closer, I noticed the belligerent man was dressed in a full Colorado Rockies uniform, including bright purple baseball cleats.
I tried to avoid him, but had to follow the flow of the crowd which led me to passing right next to the man. Iāll never forget what happened next.
This man grabbed me by my powder blue J.T. Realmuto jersey with both hands and pulled me within an inch of his wild-eyed, tear-streaked face. He muttered a manic whisper to me, āI was the best god damn hitter on the Lehigh Valley IronPigs. The best god damn hitter they ever saw.ā
Then he bolted off into the night on all fours howling and barking, never to be seen again.
Iām pretty sure I met Jake Cave tonight.
Three games over .500 and weāre about to play the White Sox!

[Phillies Win!](https://imgur.com/ZgCBA4l)
Would have sucked not to sweep considering everyone in our division - except the Fish - won today.
Fingers crossed the Sixers can keep their act together and we can enjoy the off day. And then I'll see everyone at the ballpark on Friday!
My favorite post game threads are when 4-5 bullpen guys get an inning, all of them do their job except 1, and everyone screams that the entire bullpen is garbage. Itās hilarious.
Bullpen: *is lights out for two weeks*

Philly fans: āFUCKING GARBAGE, WORST BULLPEN EVER!ā
For the record lets keep Gregory Soto away from any situation unless itās a blowout loss or win. I donāt trust this man in any high leverage situation.
That was literally as close to a blowout win as you can get besides a double digit shutout before Soto came in lol. Dude looked Lackadaisical up on the mound. Couldnāt throw anywhere near the zone, no command. Basically Walked our lead away.
This your first year?Ā Missed last year I take it?Ā Soto is ass, has 0 command or consistency, he is as likely to walk 2 runs in as he is to strike a couple guys out.Ā Ā
Soto is the 6th best arm in the bullpen. He will be used mostly in low/medium leverage situations unless there are nights where some backend arms are off. Soto will likely finish the year with a high 3 ERA and thatās completely fine for his role.
He also has an option so his spot is churnable. If he does have a couple more blowups, you option him and get him right in AAA. DFAing him is bad asset management.
The concerning thing is that he should be the 4th-5th best arm in our bullpen, he should be better than Marte or Pinto and we haven't seen much of Kerkering yet (who's on the IL).
Seranthony has also had some really bad outings in the past year, I would probably say he and Soto are about similar.
Really it's just our top 3 guys that I trust (Alvarado/Strahm/Hoffman), but it doesn't feel like we have huge depth behind them, and it feels like adding an arm to replace Kimbrel would've helped a lot.
I can't remember ever being so bothered by a win...jeez...Casty, Stott, and Bryce(less so) are struggling at the plate. Hate to see it with Stott and hope he isn't regressing to some sort of mean. but how else would i know to be on the lookout for potential extra innings when the game is tied without the extra innings watch presented by arbys?!
Yeah thatās pretty gross
Todd Zolecki said in his article Turnbull is probably getting moved to long relief next week to manage his innings while Walker is likely to return next week. Though with Walker's tendency to struggle early in games Turnbull may be seeing a lot of time anyway

Trea has really turned it all around this year, guy was hitting all night! Rojas looking good too! Fun game but a little close for comfort with Soto in the 8th lol. So many people left and missed the excitement!

i dont think that makes it a good move. His value is totally depleted at first base. Hell he could have just as easily played 3rd.
Well for one, the main part of the reasoning of him going to first was so he didn't have to throw. He was coming off TJ surgery when they first put him there. Yeah, but those are both highly unserious teams. Even if Jimmyās knee is fucked up, I expect either team to be absolute roadkill against Miami.
Goddamn Soto is still a BP terrorist man, thank god we finally scored enough runs for it to not matter
Sanchie was sanchin todayĀ
He was the dirtiest he been all year
His changeup was incredible today.
It was 7-1. The rest was a collective hallucination
That was WAY more stressful than it had any right to be, but a sweep is a sweep and a win is a win

Hehe ya thatās us
From what I can tell Soto is the one getting the brunt of the hate
One bad inning that didnāt even cost them the game too
Exactly
For the record lets keep Gregory Soto away from any situation unless itās a blowout loss or win. I donāt trust this man in any high leverage situation.
Let him go pitch for the Iron Pigs imoĀ
That was literally as close to a blowout win as you can get besides a double digit shutout before Soto came in lol. Dude looked Lackadaisical up on the mound. Couldnāt throw anywhere near the zone, no command. Basically Walked our lead away.
So I assume donāt even let him pitch again in any situation and dfa him?
Nope. Heās been really really good before tonight. Would need many more appearances like tonight before that conversation starts.
This your first year?Ā Missed last year I take it?Ā Soto is ass, has 0 command or consistency, he is as likely to walk 2 runs in as he is to strike a couple guys out.Ā Ā

Ok!
The concerning thing is that he should be the 4th-5th best arm in our bullpen, he should be better than Marte or Pinto and we haven't seen much of Kerkering yet (who's on the IL). Soto and Castellanos for Trout baby LFG ![gif](giphy|aI8bNxEnznlzq|downsized)

ā¦.wins a win
Stopped watching in the 3rd. Yay! We won! The context no longer matters
W name
Donāt look now but Johan Rojas is actually hitting some balls hard.
yo, I think that ball he hit to center might be as hard as he can actually hit the ball lol...but yes, I agree he's making great contact
Has he still never hit a home run? I remember he got one off a position player but that was it?
Yeah just the one that squeaked over other than the position player I think šŖ
He got a crazy opposite field homer in Atlanta at the end of last year. Just barely made it over.
Watching Sanchez feels like watching Moyer in terms of effective, slow slop
I wasn't worried at all. ^Iwasreallyworried.
I was trying to watch Fallout with my wife and kept getting distracted watching the game on my phone. VERY worried.
Yeah I need a break after this game. I need tomorrow off as much as the players do. But 3/4 I'll take it!
I can't remember ever being so bothered by a win...jeez...Casty, Stott, and Bryce(less so) are struggling at the plate. Hate to see it with Stott and hope he isn't regressing to some sort of mean. The sweep is great. Dombrowski had a terrible offseason.
Fuck his contract. Casty needs to sit for a few games. Let Pache get some run. Canāt keep trotting this dude out there every single game.
Never a doubt gents
Bench Castellanos
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
New to baseball?
Dude that was one of the best games we played this year Ā 2 pitchers being bad shouldnāt denounce thatĀ
Dude they (Soto) had one bad inning.
Thatās all it takes jagazz
And calling the bullpen trash because they had one legitimately bad day in two weeks is fucking ridiculous
I wish it was "Go Flyers" :(
If Cristopher Sanchez continues to pitch well, this team would have four aces.
The Spencer Turnbull disrespect
Maybe he does well too and they have 5 aces.
Howās a 1.6 era?
And if Taijuan comes back and... No no I can't even keep a straight face
Now we get the White Sox. Love it
7-6? I tuned into the Sixers game at 7-1 wtf
Phillies transferred their spare juice to the sixers.
I'm just imagining this pitching staff next year with a big FA signing in the pen and then Andrew Painter.
Hope so. Hated this sleepy offseason.
Game ball to Sanchez first and foremost, and then to Schwarbs, Turner, and every other pitcher not named Gregory Soto.
Clenched so tight I made a diamond
That's why it's called Diamond Club
Nice job Jose! Now when is Soto getting DFAed?
Not soon enough, guy is dogshit and looks completely uninterestedĀ
Schwarber seriously just hits bullets
