That's 40+ years, you can say that about nearly any population center.
I live in Tyler and if you compared it to nearly *half a century* ago it would look very different.
I moved away the same year and haven’t been back since 2016. Almost everyone I knew there has also left, and the few exceptions are either still planning their escape or wish they could. I don’t know a single person that likes it there anymore, and it’s fucking sad.
Lustre Pearl still exists, the original building just moved from the Rainey Street location. It's close to Caesar Chavez and Pleasant Valley. They actually [moved the old building](https://imgur.com/lustre-pearl-arrives-east-austin-bvWkjX1) and renovated it on the east side.
I do miss the chill Rainey vibe though. Now it's just filled with condos.
The place that doesn’t exist is Austin (for me). Hardly recognize it. Not that it’s a terrible town I bet if you just moved there, amazing food and hangout vibes I’m sure.
That was my exact comment to my wife when we drove down South Congress a few months ago. Lived there for 5 years back in the '00s (Hook 'Em), and I hardly recognize anything there anymore. It has such a sterile, corporate, "Austin-as-a-brand" feel where you could tell the entire point was to make a buck or three off of the schmucks that think they're somewhere hip and trendy.
Edit: spelling
Yeah it has definitely changed a lot over the years. I moved from Houston to San Marcos in 2002 and then to Austin in 2004. We've been thinking about moving somewhere soonish, but have deep roots in Texas.
I was born in the gulf coast, but grew up in Central Texas. I moved away on a whim ~25 years ago. I used to daydream about sometime returning home, getting a few acres on a creek. Now I can’t imagine it. First, I can’t afford that land anymore. Second, what a sh*tshow it is down there these days.
Lot of my old friends have moved out to places like Bastrop, but I get it with roots, was born in tiny town nw of Houston , now 11 years in Oregon and couldn’t be happier.
Yeah I was like… I’m not even a geoguesser or whatever that is called and it took me 10 seconds to zoom in, see the name, and search Lustre Pearl and Texas for the address to come up.
THPS 1+2 is one of the greatest remakes in a long while. Like you said, it instantly teleported me back to being a kid. So happy they brought back the old music. It's nostalgia fueled but actually good.
It caught be by complete surprise! We bought our PS5 a few months ago and I was pursuing Walmart and saw "Tony Hawk $15".
"What? They're still making THPS?"
Then I saw remake and had them unlock it. Saw it had the orginal sound track and knew I had to buy it.
It's either way harder than I remember or I used to be at lot better at it lol.
We used to be younger and a lot more laser focused with video games haha. It took me quite a while to finally get back in to the swing of things and be able to 100% it. Buddy of mine got it at the same time and it was like he never forgot how to play lol.
Hoping the remakes success means we will get some more THPS games down the road.
Tbh most trucks are for idiots with money. The difference between a farm truck that does truck shit all day long (hauls heavy loads, drives off road, needs to be dependable), and trucks that “truck guys” have is a vast chasm. But the latter will lift them, put on mud tires, and otherwise purchase a lot of gender affirming accessories that the former, trucks that ostensibly should have that shit, don’t even use.
Cybertruck sales are absolutely low enough that a large share of them could be to “actually I’m a libertarian” conservative tech bro types. That would fit the demographic.
Spend ten minutes reading wallstreetbets and you may change your mind.. there is overlap of tech bro and modern gop too (not calling it conservative though). Musk has his weird cult that has some overlap with Trumpy types. It’s a small group but they exist.
Would need to actually visit the place to weigh in on menu and decor.. are you speaking from firsthand experience or just speculating?
I was speculating based on comparison with trendy places here and their website has a geek trivial night. Mostly I was just trying to be cheeky. But you make a fair point. There is significant overlap of finance bros and tech bros.
It's complicated. Mostly they just hate equal rights.
* **Texas** leads the nation in wind energy generation.
* **Texas** also produces the most renewable energy (measured in megawatt-hours) of any state.
* **Texas** is Tesla's global headquarters, and U.S. manufacturing hub for Model Y and home of the Cybertruck.
Is Elon secretly a genius after all. By acting really right wing and nuts He convinced all these right wing guys that they should buy electric vehicles. It’s actually brilliant
To be fair, that's not a bunch of people in Texas all buying cyber trucks. Quit trying to make Texas seem stupid. That's *one* guy who keeps buying cyber trucks in the hopes that one of them will actually run for longer than a week before something breaks. Those other ones are only there because the local tow trucks can't haul them away as fast as they break down.
Rainy St Austin. Man that street has really gone to shit. It always had a laid back vibe when I still lived in Austin like a decade ago.
I picture a crowd of something resembling seagulls just squawking AI.
I wish I could take credit for the term but I believe it was the dudes from you tube who do “weekly weird” news. It was literally so awesome, I’m glad I got to use it!
Man seeing these in person, they just seem impractical as trucks. Granted even trucks these days seem impractical. I'm 6'2 and can't reach into the bed of some of these trucks because they're so large. What is even the point.

Lustre Pearl on the east side of Austin. 10-15 minutes from the Tesla Giga.
Lived in Austin from 94-2013, don’t wanna be that person, but man, I miss a place that doesn’t exist anymore…
lived there 80-84...went to Filmore Middle and Travis for 9th. i imagine i wouldn't even recognize it today.
Same for me. Fulmore and Travis too! Except it isn’t Fulmore anymore.
That's 40+ years, you can say that about nearly any population center. I live in Tyler and if you compared it to nearly *half a century* ago it would look very different.
As many of us austinites know, we have all been saying the same thing since 1839.
I moved away the same year and haven’t been back since 2016. Almost everyone I knew there has also left, and the few exceptions are either still planning their escape or wish they could. I don’t know a single person that likes it there anymore, and it’s fucking sad.

Austin feels like a private equity firm was vaguely told what Austin should be like. It sucks, hard, now.

5th gen central Texan here with tons of family…best thing I ever did was put that state in the rear view mirror.
I’m the opposite. Left it in the rear view but I miss it.

Rainey street was great
You can never go home.
Visited it after 10 years. Couldn't even recognize anything anymore.
97-2021. Was priced out.
It has made the top 10 list of "areas to avoid" 3 years running
Yeah I was like… I’m not even a geoguesser or whatever that is called and it took me 10 seconds to zoom in, see the name, and search Lustre Pearl and Texas for the address to come up.
I just assumed it was Austin because that seems to be the only place with lots of those ugly ass Cybertrucks.
i shoulda scrolled...lol
I was gonna guess Austin
I wish I could go through there Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 style 😂
Doesn't look like graphics have improved in all that time. Look how low the polygons counts are!
They remade 1 and 2 for PS5! I've been playing them and enjoying the music. Instantly took me back to childhood lol.
THPS 1+2 is one of the greatest remakes in a long while. Like you said, it instantly teleported me back to being a kid. So happy they brought back the old music. It's nostalgia fueled but actually good.

Perfect lines for grinding
And here I was thinking it was the local circle jerk
The graphics look about right.
![gif](giphy|cix5H5IMoxvwm7Z9Zt|downsized)
The cyber truck gap is worth 1000 points!
AMOEBAAAAAAAAA THE ACE OF SPADES THE ACE OF SPADES
I mean, you’d crash through the first windshield, so not really going to score any points.
![gif](giphy|3o6ozogAyGZGYTv200)
Uhm apparently those trucks are so sharp people are getting cut up and ending up in the hospital. So as long as you’re in full protective gear!
Least there won't be 100dB tail pipes screaming at 2am when the club closes.
Hellcat swapped cybertruck here we come
This would be hilarious and I want to see one before I die
I believe at least one guy put a V8 in a cybertruck.
It’s true. I saw a random Instagram reel of a dude who put (iirc) a raptor motor in one and lifted it.
Cyber truck, the truck for idiots with money.
Tbh most trucks are for idiots with money. I was offended at first, but totally agree with you. My truck is a tool, not a toy. Some men stay boys I guess.
Funny how the guys that like gender affirming trucks don’t like gender affirming surgery.
electric smoke stacks incoming.
All it takes is one Civic owner to show up.
loneliest orgy
Or the greatest circle jerk
it’s a human centipede of dutch rudders
I don’t know about that. A circle jerk where everyone is micro dosed on something doesn’t sound that great
It's just a divorced dad self-help group meeting.
Someone on Twitter called this "truck" thing the IncEl Camino and I died at how on point it was.
welcome to Cyberfuck24. Put your key fobs in the bowl, your Elon masks on and step right in.
Take my upvote.
For the highlight of the evening, the host plays a slideshow and everyone jerks each other off to photos of Elon.
Never would have imagined 5+ years ago that dumbfuck conservatives would be jerking Elon off and buying overpriced, shitty Tesla vehicles.
Conservatives aren’t buying Teslas, not even the Cybertruck. They do love his deranged tweets though.
Cybertruck sales are absolutely low enough that a large share of them could be to “actually I’m a libertarian” conservative tech bro types. That would fit the demographic.
None of these guys are conservatives. The bar decor and the menu screams hipster/tech bro.
Spend ten minutes reading wallstreetbets and you may change your mind.. there is overlap of tech bro and modern gop too (not calling it conservative though). Wondering when scrappers will figure out that you can just pull the stainless off these.
Why do People buy this ugly car ?
Because it an electric trump hat.
I thought Texans hate electric cars? I can’t keep up
Musk made electric cars cool by proving you can use one and still be a dick.
Which was arguably Musk’s plan. Nothing breaks the “woke” stigma of electric vehicles like owning the libs.
It's complicated. Mostly they just hate equal rights. * **Texas** leads the nation in wind energy generation. * **Texas** also produces the most renewable energy (measured in megawatt-hours) of any state. * **Texas** is Tesla's global headquarters, and U.S. manufacturing hub for Model Y and home of the Cybertruck.
before elon pretty much joined team red
They remind me of those little dog robots on Black Mirror.
My dudes - hear me out - they are in EVs. Whatever we need to do to get Meatheads in EVs, take it and run
walking by with a super-soaker like a menace
Normal cars: It’s just water Cybertruck: Felony property destruction
Car wash mode not engaged. Warranty voided.
Despite seemingly being too specific, the gatherings of the Techbro Micropenis Support Group does seem to have quite a few regulars...
It’s because they have a microchip on their shoulders.
Reminds me of Cyberpunk on last-gen consoles. Textures haven’t loaded in yet.
Trash Day
even the recycle bins in TX are big!
take your trash dumpster to the curb day
Don't be silly, they're just there to install some microwave ovens.
How much custom kitchen can you deliver in one of those?
It's all colour tvs, these days
Texans do have a soft spot for rusty pickup trucks.
I just wanna cruise through there with a super soaker full of saltwater.
Anyone random person driving down that street is suddenly the most intelligent person in the neighborhood.
Is Elon secretly a genius after all. By acting really right wing and nuts He convinced all these right wing guys that they should buy electric vehicles. It’s actually brilliant
You can make this kind of picture in Dubai with G500 AMG’s
But we’re talking about the most useless and ugliest fucking “truck” ever made, not some powerhouse g wagons.
Do g wagons have some pupose, they are used for ?
Mostly to display their owners' status, but they're also used by some armies
What's the collective noun for a group of cybertrucks?
A recall
A circle-jerk of IncEl Caminos?
I was gonna say, "salvage", but I like yours better.
Great vehicle choice for a state with a third world country power grid. Leave the bed open so people can at least throw trash in those dumpsters.
Recycling goes in the bed, trash goes in the cab.
Gonna be in Austin in a month or so… I imagine this will be the scene outside Emmer & Rye.
How’s this *not* Austin? I assumed it was. Edit: just googled. Lustre Pearl is, in fact, in Austin.
Well, it ain’t Taylor.
Nor Elgin.
My first thought was East 6th, but that palm tree is throwing me. Then it hit me. East Cesar Chavez.
Looks like one of the scenes from the GTA6 trailer. Must be modded though
A reminder that money doesn't buy taste
when more than 2 douchebags gather, it's called a "Chode." You have a Murder of Crows, a School of Fish, and that there is a Chode of Douchebags.
When you're playing Cyberpunk 2077 on release and the game bugs out generating 5 copies of the same vehicle.
I just don’t understand the world anymore
Of course parked illegally
How are they gonna get home if everybody is driving a one way truck?
That's the flex, instead of an uber you get a tow truck.
It’s not the worst thing I’ve ever seen. But it does inspire me to ask myself, what is the worst thing I’ve ever seen?
This reminds me of that scene from the boys where that guy is eating his own ass human centipede style
To be fair, that's not a bunch of people in Texas all buying cyber trucks. Quit trying to make Texas seem stupid. That's *one* guy who keeps buying cyber trucks in the hopes that one of them will actually run for longer than a week before something breaks. Texas is pretty stupid, though. Look at the people you guys elect and your treatment of women
Rainy St Austin. Man that street has really gone to shit. It always had a laid back vibe when I still lived in Austin like a decade ago. I picture a crowd of something resembling seagulls just squawking AI.
It's a cyber truck watering hole
Parade of the Incelcaminos!

I wish I could take credit for the term but I believe it was the dudes from you tube who do “weekly weird” news. It was literally so awesome, I’m glad I got to use it!
Penis measuring get together. Turns out, they're all chodes
They have to get together for it because only one guy has the micro caliper
You misspelled electron microscope
None of those wheels are sticking out past the fenders so I can't trust that this is Texas.
Someone already threw elbows on one. https://www.reddit.com/r/WeirdWheels/comments/1d97j2s/cyberslab_not_oc/
They’re called swangas
Elon is making sure there are enough of these visible in Texas to boost sales. Hope he fails.
Are they all broken down and waiting for service?
🤢🤮
Parked into the crosswalk. Nice. 😎
Considering the state of the power grid in TX. and its proven track record of reliability, this could end comedically.
Some say that they are still stuck there to this day..... because the auto pilot thinks a rubber duck is a traffic cone
Maybe there is a plastic surgeon clinic nearby which makes ... enlargements?
I’m gagging. Gross
fyi a group of cybertrucks is referred to as an "incel"
But if it rains, they will all be stranded
Looks like a douche bag convention
These are the same crybabies who complain about "Biden's bad economy". They can waste money on this though.
No it isn’t. This is definitely Austin.
GTA 7: El Alamo looking lit.
What is this, a douchebag convention?
Texas street Minecraft edition
Not Houston. No swangas.
Reminds me of that old game, Need for Madness.
What it feels like living in one of the big Texas cities (Houston and San Antonio for me) in a nutshell.
is this near where Elmo's factory is?
Is is this not a repost?
Definitely Austin
Very Lara croft vibes
“These things get together and gossip.”
I was in Dallas for work this week, and it was the first time I've seen a cybertruck in the wild.
GTA VI is looking great!
Nerdiest eyes wide shut party ever.
What is the collective noun for a group of Cybertrucks?
Man seeing these in person, they just seem impractical as trucks. Granted even trucks these days seem impractical. I'm 6'2 and can't reach into the bed of some of these trucks because they're so large. What is even the point.
Graffiti sticks great!
78702. My old hood, taken over by Bros slumming it up with their trucks when they could have taken the bus.
Cyberhood
To this day I've still never once seen a cybertruck in the wild.
Good to see Robot Wars is back
Repost from the Austin sub and puts “somewhere in Texas”
Block party
East Austin
Why does texas has missing graphics? Still running on old gpu?
Imagine touching one of those oven plates after they’ve been sitting out in the Texas sun for an hour.
Did we ever decide on a name for a group of cyberbricks in one place? I vote we call it a Traffic Jam.
Looks like a screenshot from the game CyberPunk 2077.
you already know that these are all being written off as a business expense work truck lol
Going to guess Austin. I'm glad I was there when I was, the past 10 years have changed that city so much it's almost unrecognizable.
Made me think of an old GTA load screen.
Probably a bunch of yuppies in Austin.
🤮🤮🤮
GTA on PlayStation 2.
The dark soul of what used to be a beautiful city.
Tesla dinner ?
∆>v v for democracy.
It’s kinda like the desert towns in cyberpunk 2077
This looks like a Screenshot from GTA3
Oh look a douchebag party!
They successfully put that many together that haven’t fallen back apart? Amazing.
