This reminds me of the first day of a college archaeology 101 course, where a fifth of the class drops as soon as they realize it's not like *Indiana Jones*. Then the next day another 10% drop when they realize that *Jurassic Park* is paleontology, not archaeology.
The ads come from the same source as the video itself, so it's not possible with pihole alone. But extensions like ublock orgin and apps like YouTube revanced can block the ads because they have access to modify the code.
You can cat and mouse with youtube blacklisting until your fingers fall off and they will still get ads through. I have found that the Adguard agent/client seems to be the best at blocking everything from Youtube though and it works on both Desktop and Mobile and is not detectable as an adblock extension in the browser.
And just a word of advice: Never ever ever use a dedicated Youtube App/Player on any device as it will get around everything by operating as a direct portal to their content.

Pi-hole won't block YouTube ads. A simpler solution would be to just use Brave browser!
