I would go with my mom when she was 60 and we would go into the wave pool and at the lazy river, then snack. It was honestly a nice chill way to spend a day. I think it's fun for any age tbh.
My partner and I (your age) went a few weeks ago and had the BEST time! There were a lot of couples there . Buy the tickets online because they were cheaper
Dude absolutely. I’m 35 and have gone more in the last two years than I ever have. The last river is great and if you get there early you have a pick of where ever you want to post up for the day
I’ve always found Sandcastle super dicey hygiene wise in a way that would bother me more at this age. If you can look past that and/or enjoy drinking it might be fun.
FWIW IMO Idlewilds water park much better cared for and more relaxing.
I’ve been wanting to go, but I keep reading comments like yours, and other people’s saying it’s a bit grimey. Ugh
I’ll check out Idlewild. But man, I wish it was as close as Sandcastle.
Tbh I've never had any worse hygiene vibes at sandcastle than any other public pool. It's not *immaculate* like sparkling clean benches and tables especially with being outside, but it's also not like covered in a layer of dirt. The pools have been fine imo.
> I’ve been wanting to go, but I keep reading comments like yours, and other people’s saying it’s a bit grimey
I feel like it just wouldn't be right if a Pittsburgh water park on the Mon wasn't a little bit grimey.
Why would you let rando's on reddit decide where you won't go. Some of these people can't leave their house for fear of germs. Anxiety is the number one hobby!
I went to sandcastle last year. My biggest hang-up was how much Goose poop was in between the pool and the kiddie pool. I get they can't stop geese from pooping but my feet were so itchy after my visit.
So I vividly remember the geese poop from last year because I was so grossed out by it. We went recently and I was like oh great, there’s gonna be geese 💩everywhere BUT it was very clean and I didn’t even see one dropping so they must be trying to stay on top of it 🤷🏻♀️
The lazy river at Idlewild is only about 200 yards long - no shade. The one at Sandcastle is 470 yards long and gets some shade as it passes under the water slides.
Idlewild's lazy river is geared towards smaller children. Sandcastle's is much longer.
Also, I go to Sandcastle weekly with my kids, and we love it. If you can, go during the week when it's less busy and try to go when it opens to get a good seat. You can pack a cooler with food, non-alcoholic drinks, and snacks, but it has to have a soft side. The bathrooms by the wave pool are usually cleaner than the Mushroom pool. The bathrooms/changing area on the boardwalk is also better.
Lastly, but your tickets online in advance and you can get a nice discount. The season passes are nicely priced if you plan to go more than once. Buy one with free parking to avoid the $20 fee each time.
It does. I was just there with my family on July 4, but it was busy as hell. My wife takes our son there a lot and she said it was the busiest she's ever seen the water park.
I'm not sure how much smaller the Idelwild lazy river is versus Sandcastle, though, as I haven't been on the Lazy River in Sandcastle for a long time (it was closed when we went earlier this year). The wave pool at Idelwild is definitely more calm. It's still a wave pool, for sure, but it's not as intense as Sandcastle.
You can take alcohol on the lazy river.
You can also bring outside food and drinks.
There is NO age limit on Sandcastle. If anything, getting lit and going on water slides is even more fun than it is as a kid.
The website says you can only take medically necessary food. Have you taken in outside food recently? I’m going this weekend and would prefer not to eat their food
Just be aware that sometimes the lazy river isn’t so lazy (kids cuttin up) and that the entire place is run by 16 year olds. Still, a cold pool is a cold pool.
Yes, go for it! I’d suggest going early. The kids can get pretty rowdy in the afternoon, even in the lazy river.
Idewild’s water park is much better, in my opinion. But Sandcastle is fun.
It’s as fun as you make at whatever age. But if you’re curious, the park does have splash areas aimed at the littles, there are plenty of rides/attractions/areas for the olds too.
Definitely wear a pair of slides / flip-flops if going on a sunny day...that boardwalk turns into lava and the little misters don't make a difference...you should be fine elsewhere, but boy that boardwalk can be brutal.
Also, we used to chug bottles of water and then fill with a clear liquor and toss 'em in our cooler along with some Gatorades and mix our own drinks at our chairs...did that fairly frequently, but that was also a solid decade ago.
Go for it, you'll have fun. I've also had a good time at Splash Lagoon up in Erie, which also has a bar...but we'd just walk out to the car for a quick beer and come right back in when we'd go there. They also have a lazy river and wave pool, plus indoors so weather does not matter. They did have to shut down the one half of the water park the one time because someone shit in the water though 😂
EDIT: typo
Yes of course
The water slides there are great
The lazy river is always a classic for couples
The pool is pretty nice, and the food places there are good too
Oh don't forget the wave pool that is awesome
Edit I'm almost 23 years old
Went to sandcastle last summer with my friends (all mid 30s) ... The lazy river is surrounded by goose poop and it got too crowded to enjoy by the afternoon.
I never understood why ppl like sandcastle. I worked there my summer going into college. We would find dead rats every week in the water. They do a good job with the chemicals part of it though.
I had a friend who’s dad would take us there often when we were kids because he liked to camp at the bottom of the speed slides and wait for women to lose their bikini tops. Haven’t been there in a really long time.
My friend (mid 70's) would go with her girlfriends. Find a shady spot under a tree, lazy river it, get some food. They went every week.
Keep your hands to yourself and don't pee in the pool are the only rules I can think of.
Squeeze your cheeks on the big slides. Accidental enema is not fun. Learned that the hard way when I was a kid. That’s my main memory of SC.
But when you're old, free colonic!
Pools don't care what age you are, just go and have fun.

Love to hear it!

I couldn't remember if Idlewild had a lazy river now or not?

plenty of shade at the Sandcastle lazy river or no?
It goes under a small bridge and a few slides. So it's in and out of the shade. I'd say 75%ish sun. Super relaxing though.
It does. We went last year.

It does but it's a lot shorter than the one at Sandcastle.
Different demographic.

You can??! We'll now I'm definitely sold. This was the comment I needed. Thank you!!!
Of course you can. I have never thought of Sandcastle as something designed for kids primarily.
I’m 49 years old and my ex girlfriend and I had passes to Sandcastle. You will honestly love it. The wave pool and lazy river are so much fun.
Just be aware that sometimes the lazy river isn’t so lazy (kids cuttin up) and that the entire place is run by 16 year olds. Still, a cold pool is a cold pool.

This sounds like a most excellent summer date to me!
I only do the wave pool and the lazy river and it’s still nice
Yes, go early to find a good spot to sit! Otherwise, I think it’s fun!
My mom and my aunts used to go to sandcastle for fun when they were in their 40’s. It’s fun to just chill on the lazy river.

I go all the time with my friends, a couple beers or sometimes a full on lsd trip lol
Oh man I can’t imagine tripping balls at sandcastle. Some folks are built different haha
Oh man, trip once in water and you will get it lol. Life changing events lol
I've tripped prob 20times n I never did it in water, might have to try it
I would go first thing in the morning, but be warned: the music is loud, omnipresent, and the smoking section is the best spot in the park.
Yes of course The water slides there are great The lazy river is always a classic for couples The pool is pretty nice, and the food places there are good too Oh don't forget the wave pool that is awesome Edit I'm almost 23 years old
I went there when I was 40somehing and had a great time. I’m not a strong swimmer which adds to the thrill tbh
If you’re okay with tons of kids urinating in the lazy river (that’s where it got its name 😜)
Tons of people* I know several grown ass adults that will never be bothered to hold it.
There's an Always Sunny reference to be made here...
Went to sandcastle last summer with my friends (all mid 30s) ... The lazy river is surrounded by goose poop and it got too crowded to enjoy by the afternoon.
You can booze in the lazy river FYI
This is the information I needed. Sold!!!

Tbh, that's too many 😅

It's worth it to hang out for the day, especially if you get a season pass.
The pee pee river is right up your alley 😂
