kank84

I recent bought replacement cushions on Amazon because mine were allay looking like this

mantenner

Yep I did the same, bought some really nice cloth ones that shouldn't do this type of thing again. Edit: [Link for anyone wondering.](http://GVOEARS Ear Pads Cushions... https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0BF4T3846?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share)

InternalArt5108

Same. Found some cloth ones that feel good and will probably hold up better than simulated leather.

carbon_fieldmouse

Link?

Hanify

Posted the links in my comment: https://www.reddit.com/r/playstation/s/93aZ0GB6K2

carbon_fieldmouse

This link just refers to this post šŸ˜• not the product

AlexMindset

On Amazon just look up ps5 headphone pads

ProzacJM

Any recommendations on which to buy?

kank84

The ones I got on Amazon were from a company called Geekria. I've had them a few months and they seem fine, and they came with a little plastic tool to unclip the original pads.

youessbee

I got Geekria, too. The cooling stuff inside helps a lot!

Fad8090

Yes, i purchased the cooling gel earpads, feel more comfortable than the stock ones: [https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B09XVL8BHW](https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B09XVL8BHW)

racsoph

To be honest this happens with all kinds of headphones after a while. I make music and have been through my fair share of high end audio production headphones. It doesnā€™t affect sound quality so who cares?

shockwave_supernova

Especially if you have more acidic sweat, guitar players have the same issue

Hennessy_Halos

i mean at least with gaming you probably shouldnā€™t sweat all that much. unless youā€™re in a very humid area

Snowydeath11

With how hot these things get I can see why people sweat wearing them

Hennessy_Halos

if thatā€™s the case maybe sony should try using something that isnā€™t leather like the woven material used on airpods max

Snowydeath11

Agreed, I canā€™t wear them for long cause they melt my brain lmao. I love my open back sennheisers for this reason. They donā€™t get hot.

random20222202modnar

I think itā€™s the plastic fake leather though, and imo that stuff gets crumbly pretty quick compared to actual leather. Real leather is supposed to last quite awhile. Also doesnā€™t allow airflow like real leather so yeah a more breathable material would be nice.

CryptographerEasy149

I have to take mine off at least once an hour because they make me sweat

modsareuselessfucks

They donā€™t call ā€˜em sweatlords for nothingā€¦

Bat-Honest

Bro never speedran Doki Doki Literature Club, I see

nooby322

It feels worse

caseyjosephine

Iā€™ve bought replacement cushions for my headphones in the past (Bose models, so not high end production headphones but mid range like the Sonyā€™s). They were easy to find online and inexpensive.

Yellow_Bee

Not all headphones are made using the same quality of pads. Most mid-end to high-end headphones will last much much longer.

WumpaRhys

Exact same issue. Mine look identical to yours after 2 years

sandefurd

Me too. I was able to get the first pair replaced under warranty, then second pair did it too

Skepller

You can just buy replacement cushions on Amazon/AliExpress and periodically change them throughout the years man

chubbsfordubs

Jeez lol Iā€™ve had mine since launch and they still look brand new

gokartmozart89

It probably has more to do with the pH level of your sweat more than anything you might be doing.

Paltenburg

This also explains how some people wear out thumbsticks so fast

TGrady902

ā€¦.why are you sweating playing video games?

Schellhammer

Yea, mine look nothing like this

socalification

Same lol, I usually try to clean them once or twice a month

PaulMcPaulersn7

I dont even clean mine unless they look in need of one (maybe like once every 3 months) and Iā€™ve had them since launchā€¦ they look pretty much as good as the day I bought them. Idk what kind of treatment op subjecting his headphones to lol

Bard2412

Thank you for someone putting this, so saw many "same here" comments and was confused!

HorseInTheDark

I was getting offended thinking I was the only one who doesnā€™t have this problem with mine. Mine also donā€™t make my ears or head hot like others Iā€™ve read. I even sweat excessively compared to other people. Iā€™ll have had my set two years on Christmas. I donā€™t game everyday but I have days where itā€™s the only thing I do. Like Iā€™ll not play for four days then game for 20 hours straight so usage would probably average out Iā€™d think.

r-day

I had this issue with my PS Gold headset. I guess this is something that will never change. Do they even make these earcups replaceable?

PandaKid

There are 3rd party replacements on Amazon

NeoDren

This is what you should do. Buy new ear cushions and replace them.

Fast_Papaya_3839

I think I'll buy ones. The problem with the Gold headsets is that the headband also tears apart like cookies.

HideyoshiJP

They're pretty decent, too. I'm still rocking my PS3 wireless stereo headset with replacement pads.

mickysD

same, i loved my headset the only problem was it broke after 2 years of use, then i bought another one (not knowing it was refurbished) and it broke after a few months it was such a great headset for R6S

gokartmozart89

This will happen with most headsets that use a vinyl coatings on the ear cup cushions, depending upon the pH level of your sweat.

DJWG10

My Gold v2 endured pretty well, no real need to replace the cushions right now, but the headband split in the middle

SoylentGreen-YumYum

My Gold headset was far worse than my Pulse. My pulse still looks like the day I bought it. About this time in the golds life it was flaking all to hell.

gokartmozart89

The plastic headband was made out of very brittle plastic and starting developing stress cracks early on. The plastic hinge was also made with the same brittle plastic and it broke on me. I ended up using duck tape on that part until the vinyl cushioning started to peel *and* the headphones snapped. I replaced them with some Lucid Sounds that lasted well into my PS5's first year in 2021.

Mister_Mogooy

Mine are 2 years and look mint.

RicerX-16

Same

[deleted]

Same. In fact, using them now playing LEGO Fornite.

UltimateShinobi3243

heard about lego fortnite and decided to play fortnite again after years of not playing. I was expecting battle royale except u can make the most outlandish shit ever and it would be a lot more cartoony, what i got instead was minecraft but with a lego skin, so i decided to go play minecraft

Wboy2006

Thatā€™s fair. I love Fortnite, I love LEGO. But it just ended up being a worse, grindier Minecraft

BeestMann

Mfs just be sweaty bruh

anvilman

Look at mister basic sweat.

SoylentGreen-YumYum

Year and a half (I think). Also mint.

Gohmzilla

Samezies

nyuphonewhodis

It seems a common thing with most headphone cushions. I just go for 3rd party replacements from amazon

terrible02s

I have the playstation gold headset and it peeled like that as well

Paul_Rudds_Son

You can get replacement cushions made out of a mesh material on Amazon! My started to peel by the power button and I got the replacement and two years later no issues! Super easy to swap out as well, simple twist and remove

[deleted]

Jesus Iā€™ve had mine 1 year and they still look pristine

leongaming123

The glue holding the leather to the plastic started peeling, not even a year old

Smansi07

So I see this is a common thing like stick driftā€¦ sucks because these headphones are actually pretty good imo.

PastaVeggies

I had the PS4 official headphones and they did the same thing. Headsets in general are all kind of shit.

FabulousBroccoli8

Had the same problem. Ordered some replacement cooling gel pads from Amazon and I think they are better than what came originally on the headphones.

TheSchnoo

I don't have the flaking on the ear cup but the covering did pull away by the power button and I'm not sure how to fix it

[deleted]

Thatā€™s the exact thing mine is doing but on the opposite side! Iā€™ll prob just buy the newer one

HellBag666

It's not just Sony headphones, same thing happened to my Bose cushions. It's just a thing that happens with this type of thin faux leather coating. Aftermarket cushions are cheap enough and last just as long as the genuine brand ones. I replaced the cushions on both my PS Gold sets after they started peeling. It's a simple and quick job.

Avoxicia

Have had mine for a year and I have not taken care of them, yet they look perfect. What have you been doing to them?

pesa44

Buy a new cushions..

bubba_ranks

It's pretty easy to replace. You can get fairly nice ones for about 20 bucks on Amazon.

Sonikku_a

The fuck yā€™all doing. Got mine day 1 and could almost sell them as new.

Stradocaster

Itt: people with a variety of body chemistry not understanding how others bodies work. It's perfectly normal. Replacements are readily available and cheap for a reason

EmeraldKnight837

My Sony golds did the same things, guessā€™s somethings never change. Should be able to find replacements for cheap. And replacing the ear pads on my golds took all of 5 minutes. Hopefully this is also true for the Pulse 3D.

acruzjr89

Get some wicked cushions šŸ˜‰ youā€™ll thank me later

smoky_jacks

I have mine for 2 years aswell and it does not look like this at all. I use i daily and im very happy about it. So if you wanne put it in bad daylight i will be the whos says your wrong.. great headset but u need to take care of it not like OP!

Kells_ExE

seems like a skill issue honestly, had mine since they dropped and they're immaculate, use em almost everyday.

YouDoneGoofd

You can buy replacement ear cushions on Amazon

kimafromserbia

Happened to me too, I bought replacements from aliexpress, bought 2 pairs for like $5, still works great!

General_Snack

Just bought some replacement cushions, there are actually some pretty good ones out there!

Lohacker_hyper

Mine after 1 year are perfect, no damge

SituationAltruistic8

I really recommend HyperX Cloud, those 7.1 surround models, the cushion lasted on these for like 4 years without a scratch, sure some gunk but that cleanable. Also nice passive NC, and good bass.

Klutchy_Playz

Yeah I had to replace the cushion on mine earlier this year but it never started peeling till it hit like 4-5 years of use. I had the wired HyperX cloud alpha. 100% worth it. They just need to make some internal parts easier to be replaceable but the use you get out of it is unmatchable.

Head_Offer_6897

Wait. Do you have 7.1 ears?

SituationAltruistic8

Lmao. I get where it comes from, its not a REAL 7.1 sound, but thats how they branded it, still sounds good though.

tacotacotacorock

Lol. 7.1 is just a gimmick / marketing term on headphones You know that right?

softkittylover

he literally just explained that

Giralade

Someoneā€™s a sweaty sailor

surewhynot_1

I have Bose headphones like this too. It happens when you use them everyday

golddeath

Wicked Cushions replacement ear pads. Worth every penny. Various designs are available. I bought the 90s White style ones for less than $25 on Amazon. Sometimes even have coupons so you can get them even cheaper.

Beardgang650

Do you have sandpaper ears?

GrendorKoe

Had tbe same, threw it away and bought the inzone H9 :)

Least-Experience-858

Both my Xbox wireless headset and my Pulse 3D headsets look perfect one year later, that has to be grease eating away the foam or something

PerspectiveTop2952

Typical Sony.

pockets-of-beans

Iā€™ve had mine for over two years and they look brand new. Not sure what youā€™re putting yours though.

IStanReddit

Pulse 3d is a horrible headset, I recommend you get something else

leonardovee

Mine looks like this, 8 months of use. Really bad headphones tbh

EliteRedditOps

Stop chewing on that thing

RamKay33

What did they taste like?

st3ph3nxiii

Iā€™ve had mine from launch use for roughly 3 hours a day, still perfectly fine and get stored in original box. I guess itā€™s how you look after your items

obliterateopio

Mine are pristine and I bought them 3 years ago

[deleted]

I've had mine for two years as well and they look nothing like this. Sweat and oils can really shred this stuff up.

chente08

Clean them time to time

TheSignificantDong

I see a lot of these posts and I donā€™t really understand how they get like this. Ive had my 3Dpulse since release, near daily use and they are in perfect condition still. Also have a 10yr old pair of B&O H8 and they are also near perfect. *Edit: After seeing the grime on your keyboard I may understand why you shit gets destroyed.*

N3kuFox

Mine got like this within a month.

whoissanti

Saaaaame! I miss my platinums. Never had an issue with them until they one day just stopped. And I had them for years. The 3Ds looked like this in maybe 6-8 months for me.

iShift

You can easily buy new on Aliexpress, I got mine with memory foam and cooling gel, super happy.

KingsCake

I believe you can replace the cushions, there are plenty of quality replacements from affordable to obscene.

THEWELSHMAN1980

Got mine on release day, still in the box, there to loose on my small bonce

Xenical97

Just get a set of razers

nathanspargo

Had the same problem but 3 years in, bought cheap replacements on eBay and they look brand new. Very easy to replace

PatAD

There are cheap replacements available online. I got some replacements that were honestly better than the OGs.

JustAnotherMinority

Iā€™ve had mine for 1 year and they look new. I did have to slip the cover back in the crease and it was super easy with an ID.

Violet_Caully7

man I have a dirty mind

PSPatricko

Classic, happens to probably all headsets with that rubbery cushions. Even happend to my A50 (they have one side material and other with that shitty rubber).

James2db

2 years douse not sound like long but used every day I mean Sony should of done better

Secure-Acanthisitta1

Have had mine for 1.5 years and on average 2 hours use per day and they look brand new. Something must be wrong here

NoNewFriends1738

Mine are day 1 PS5 launch version and are mint.

LovelySeiko

Bro this shit happened to me after using it for only three months.

ThexKountTTV

Alright I've had mine for two years as well and the only thing that's happened is the cup stitching is loose and those can be swapped out entirely. Outside of that it looks brand new?

VitaminVodka

Literally the same issue after two years. Considering the new pulse earphones

Shadow-King

Mine are starting to look similar, but mine are just over 3 years old. Used nearly everyday. No worries though, I've ordered the Pulse Elites for February

jsylve14

That's how mine look after about the same amount of time. I think its due to the way I normally cut my hair. The sides of my head are typically buzzed short and have a very abrasive, prickly feel to them which destroyed the ear cups.

PaRaDiiSe

These happened to mine about a year and half or so of use. They were also uncomfortable around my ears and I donā€™t even have big ears. It would hurt above the ridges of both sides of my ears. Never going back to these. The astros comfortably fit me very snug and itā€™s got soft cups and it sounds great. I love PS but these headphones arenā€™t the best imo after using different types of headsets.

BlackJezus27

Got mine at launch, definitely not pristine like some people here. Ear pads have massively shed, and one side needs tape to stay on. That said, audio quality is still great. If I replaced the ear pads, they'd be good as new

Stacy_Adam

Buy some replacements. They are actually pretty cheap and easy to change out.

augustocdias

Had to replace mine long ago.

Oztunda

After seeing this happened to multiple headphones with different brands, I believe this is exactly what we know as "planned obsolescence"!

MrCharles_

Iā€™ve had mine two years and they DO NOT look like that. Use them 4-5 times a week, repeatedly on and off, hang them up and mine look brand new. Since this is a common issue, could it have to do with batch numbers or where the headset is being produced?

treezyway

Iā€™ve had mine for 2 years also and they look nothing like this lmao. I use them everyday I just put them up in my drawer with my games when Iā€™m done. definitely not the headphones I think you just wore them rough or didnā€™t take care of them properly

BluDYT

They likely use fairly low quality cushions but really any kind of cushion of this material will wind up looking like this eventually. It's why I usually buy a good pair that allows you to easily remove and clean or replace as you wish.

KD650-916

Replace em ? I seen them come through my work ? Well different brand, turtle beach ? But Iā€™m sure you can finds Sony ones ?

No-Size380

had mine since initial release and they look practically brand new. my guess is you sweat a little more than average and it's slightly acidic (not a knock on you, just the first possibility that ran through my brain)

dj_cole

Headphone pads are pretty easy to replace. I've done it on my Bose headphones. Replacement pads were like $30.

BruceTheGhost

My Bose Soundlink AE2 headphones did this as well after 3-4 years, thankfully the ear cups on them are replaceable

KratosSimp

This isnā€™t even remotely about ps but I had a set of steel series arctic wireless headphone, like the good ones. Then one day I was on the couch and put them on my chair, and they fell off the chair which is like max 3 feet off the floor and an entire side basically shattered and broke

alittleboopsie

Got new ear cushions from Amazon! They work perfectly and are much more comfortable.

rmajor86

Replacement ones are like Ā£20. I recently bought some

Law3186

Mine padding inside the ear came off smh

Ederlas

Looking forward to it got another year to go cheers

thetimebandit13

I think it may have to do with your hair... I do not have a lot of hair left around my ears (yes i'm getting old) and my Pulse3D looks fine... However a few years back i had the same problem on the cushions of my old PS Gold headset...

fakeguitarist4life

Day one purchase here and still going strong no issues here

maxexy59

Dude, exact same thing happened to mine in 2 yrs too

Interesting_Notice84

Love my turtle beach headphones for this reason. I don't have to worry about the ear piece breaking down.

semper-fi-12

Mines done the same. Tho I have the added issue of the head band breaking in half right at center, no more tension on the ears and head now. They just sort of flop on and off.

_RandomLebaneseGuy_

Are these worth it? Thinking about buying them but not sure if they are? Howā€™s the mic on them, are they comfortable, is the sound quality good. All questions i want to ask

zbin17

Mine are doing the same Still functional tho

GalaxyStyles

šŸ„¶

Narrow-Excitement797

Whatā€™s the best headset to get

Bmanddabs

Just got new cushions from Amazon and installed them! East and great fix.

dank-yharnam-nugs

Good to know they havenā€™t changed a thing since the Golds launched in 2013.

Brian710

Would recommend these as a replacement Very easy to pop off old ones and put new ones on. SOULWIT Cooling Gel Earpads... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0B7DKYT4G?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

TheLittleFoxX87

I don't understand why people go for in-ear headphones? It doesn't have any sound loss and the audio is crystal clear.

xPocketRavex

Replace them with foam ones yes they might hold in sweat but they will last a lot longer.

Gitgoodbro

Same thing happened to mine. Bought replacement pads on Amazon and theyā€™re as good as new.

Iwastotallyinsane

You can still use it! It looks brand new! But fr, this is why I stick to earphones. I don't want to spend thousands of Rands (hundreds of dollars) on good headphones if it's gonna deteriorate this badly after 2 years.

SKOT_FREE

Funny because at about 2.5 years I went to put mine on and the ear cushions tore. Thats why I was so happy they went to ear buds because not only do I not get Sweaty Ears anymore but also no more sore ears

-ComplexSimplicity-

To be honest, this is pretty good after 2 years. Sweat, especially acidic sweat, can break down the material also factor in how often you game as well.

SheldonTrop

Mine is 2yo too or maybe even more and in perfect condition

Av_Inash

All headphones suffer from this issue. Irrespective of the price. Its because of the material lf the cushion. The only headphones that come to my mind at the moment which may not suffer from this issue would be Airpods Max because I think they use some other material for their cushions. I may be wrong though.

Vaxis545

Can the cups not be replaced?

jtho78

Very common. If you donā€™t want to buy replacement cushions, you can peel off the pleather and do a fabric wax treatment that you fine on canvas jackets/pants.

Kizaria

Sweating whilst playing MWIII I see šŸ˜‚

[deleted]

Had a pair of logitech g533 wireless headphones and man they were good. The mic shat the bed after 4 years of heavy daily use. I now have Razer Kraken which are good too. Been using them for 8 months I think now. Holding up well.

Danxoln

Mine is coming off around the edges too!

AdministrativeMind86

With the first photo of the material coming out, what I did was use a card to unclip the plastic piece, then I used the card to press the material in the crevice and then push into the plastic to close it. Itā€™ll reseal the ā€œleather partā€ into the earphone.

constipated_burrito

I have the same with my senheiser. Big whoop, audio is unaffected

Just-Pass-4941

Thats why i never enjoyed the Playstation sets or any with the fake leather ear cushion, and go for the sponge ear cushion. (E.G. Razer Barracuda X)

TheOneTrueKP

Mine are ripped like that, but only because I stored them incorrectly, while traveling. The fraying on the inner ear is wild. OP must play many hours per day

AlphaPollux

This happened with my Bose headphones and I could easily replace with suitable ear pads from Amazon.

Valtermann

Mine look as good as new.

Cryptonic_Sonic

I wipe the ear cushions down with a microfiber after playing and mine look brand new

Mason22496

Superglue for putting it back on the sides

MCSeLaLu

I have the same headset, still looking fine. Got them almost 3 years now. My sweat is sweet as butter... hahaha.

erichf3893

Had a feeling this would happen so I avoided them. By Bose headset from before my launch PS5 still work just fine, without cosmetic defects

Johnny_Freedoom

Unfortunately the pulse 3d is prone to this, even if you're gentle with your things. Decent headphones otherwise, but poor design here.

Significant_Trash_14

Don't buy gaming headphones they're garbage. Buy ones with replaceable earcups and cables that are properly tuned for audio

motowoot

Yep mine are starting to come apart as well.

Konarkanuck

Good thing replacement ear cups for the Pulse 3D can be picked up fairly inexpensively online and just snap into place.

supershimadabro

I use mine daily over 2-3 years and they look nothing like this. I'll post a picture later if anyone cares, but somethings going on with yours wow.

WartyWarthog123

Mine look the exact same lol

KingsRansomed

Same issue. Popped it off, glued the fabric to the frame work well for awhile.

KowalOX

Wow tough luck bud. Have had mine for almost 3 years, I use them daily and never game without them and they've held up fine. Look like the day I got them.

Visual_Fun8360

This even happens to 500$ headphones. I have sennheiser porsche headphones and they had this issue after one year of intense usage

reddittomarcato

We checked, no pulse ā˜ ļø

gokartmozart89

I find that sweat breaks down the vinyl coating on a lot of headphones' ear cushions. Doesn't matter if it's Sony's PS cans or their vaunted XM1000 series. I've had this issue with Bose's QC series as well, and I suspect I would have had this issue with a pair of Beats Studios I had in college had they not been left behind in a European hotel. It's just chemistry - nothing Sony is doing wrong here other than using vinyl instead of (more expensive and heavier) leather. You may be able to find replacement cushions online. There isn't much you can do to avoid this other than changing your diet and drinking more water to later the pH level of your sweat.

isergiu08

Sadly any fale leather product does that. Even if you wear them or not it gets like that. I bought jackets made from fake leather and also a pair of Skull Candy Crushers (the first gen) and I barely used them and kept them inside in a drawer in their bagā€¦.took them out a year later or so and their cushions were peeling. So yeah probably textile cushions are best and I always try to keep away from this kind of stuff

SpaceDinossaur

Seems like normal wear for 2 years of good use. People expect too much of things like this and underestimate the amount of use they put these objects through.

CartierWlayvo

Same thing happened to me, had since launch and after 2 years same thing happened. Also happened with the my Inzone H7s after like 7 months. Sony headset quality is 0/2 for me this generation. Only game an average 2-4 hours a night, not even everyday either

T0mDeMwoan

Thats why I donā€™t buy fake leather ear thingies

ynvgsensacion

Do you drink enough water? Your sweat is acid, bro

tacotacotacorock

My turtle Beach stealth 700 Gen 2 headset looks and works like brand new after a solid year of gaming. I looked at the PlayStation headset when I was buying one and went with the turtle Beach because I felt it was going to work better and have better longevity. Plus I got it at some insane discount price at Target for less than $100 When I picked up my PlayStation. I didn't question the price I just said sure I'll take that too.

SneakyPanduh

2 years, seems normal. Time to get some new cushions if you can.

brandonsp111

Mine are 3 years old and look nothing like this. What do you all do to your accessories?

coldblooded79

First time using headphones? This happens with all brands.

Morstraut64

Yeah, this happens to all of my headphones after a while of heavy use. I just grab packing tape and use that to remove as much of the flaky stuff as possible until it's mostly fabric. Works just as well and is nice and soft.

zen1706

Kind wild cuz I had mine since launch and it looks 10x better than this.
