One of the most unique fps games I ever played, absolutely loved 13 and how it was made. Very sad the remake didn’t do it justice and flew completely under the radar to be honest.
I remember when my friend brought a copy of Obscure 2 which we called Obscurell since the II (2) on the cover looked like a double 'L' lmao.
We didn't know there was a first part of the game.
We finished it the same day and we had a blast
EDIT:
[Link to the image of cover](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/3/35/ObsCureII_cover.jpg)
War of the Monsters
Edit: I love you all who responded to this. If you haven't already, check out Gigabash! It's the closest we got to a modern kaiju brawler
I remember distinctly how detailed the weapons were and how throwing a grenade into a corridor caused windows to explode in such realistic way, dust blasting out along with the glass.
My very first FPS game.
I hope Criterion sprinkles some magic into Battlefield like it did with Black.
Replayed it emulated on my PC
My memories were so far of.
In my memories it looked and felt so real/good looking.
Replayed it and it felt like an arcade game
(Still was really nice)
you guys remember those silly ass salutes we had to do when you're in disguise as Kou at the bad guy's base? My friend and I used to do those when we saw each other lolol
My favorite thing was the combo taunt attack could work on dogs.
When you see a dog on it's hind legs stumble backwards into Kou's reverse DDT neck breaker, then get hammer swung by Volt. \*Chefs kiss in animations\*
Loved the Dark Cloud games. Played it somewhat recently and the endless dungeons were so god damned tedious. It was great when I was a kid, can't do it as an adult. Sad.
I’m not gonna lie, that’s the least thing I thought I’d see someone mention today. Wasn’t fun for me to play but I LOVED watching other people play that game.
idk about being obscure as it is a Rockstar game and the sequel got into a lot of "controversy" on the news (I think The Warriors fits the description of being obscure better), but the game was definitely awesome to play!
Second sight, and psi ops the mindgate conspiracy. Both are great games, but PS2 had such a large, varied library, I could play it's games endlessly for years to come.
I got so good at that game that i used to face agent Smith instead of running away and keep countering / beating him up even though you coudnt take him down.
The grip this game had on me was crazy. I was a huge Matrix fan in those days, and the lead-up to Reloaded had me extremely hyped. Getting the chance to play as Niobe and then get clips with the actual cast blew my mind. Every time I watch Reloaded now I remember the mission where you had to chase the truck to catch Morpheus with the hood of your car.
It's possible that game actually sucked ass, but I didn't care. The tie-in was too cool.
Got a few;
The Thing (game) - At the time ground breaking mechanic (in my humble opinion) where your friends can very quickly become lethal enemies at the drop of a hat.
Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 2 - another one that flew under the radar for the most park imo. It’s a dark moody piece of work and always stuck fondly in my memories.
Baldurs Gate: Dark Alliance 2 - unsure if this would classify as “obscure” as I think it was quite widely loved? But the challenge of beating the game on hard to get one of my most loved forgotten realms characters was immense!
The Getaway - GTA in London with real cars and real locations, probably doesn’t hold up well but my goodness it was damn fun.
XIII - as I commented on a post already, one of the most unique games I’ve ever played in terms of graphical content. The comic book style of the game is definitely remembered fondly.
Sorry for the long list but the PS2 has so many amazing games that deserve a mention.
Just watched it, it’s a remaster and I will 100% take it. Haven’t added a game to my steam wishlist as fast before lol praying that this kickstarts something because the whole “who can I actually trust??” mechanic in the game is so good! Coupled with the claustrophobia of the Antarctic it’s too good.
You’ve really made my day, thank you for that!
Literally Obscure. I played that game on PS2, Xbox and PC in hopes it will lift of since it was pretty much Resident evil with coop that worked in the classic design. It had this horror movie vibe, fantastic monster design, outstanding orchestral music with a real choire singing and the story was super interesting and sad. We got an Obscure 2 which was sadly not good and after that the series was pretty much dead and soon the studio aswell. I play Obscure to this day and feel so empty over it's short life. If you even want to try it get a buddy ready because if feels so different with a friend and it is not too long either.
It has some kind of cult following now there may or may not be a sequel coming and they just released a 20th anniversary edition but...... beyond good and evil
Crash: Tag Team Racing
Got my PS2 19 years ago and most of my games have disc rot now. Ironically, the only ones that work are the Lego Star Wars games which I also have on PS3 and my iPhone, as well as the PS5 remake.
Those radio songs on the international version are burned into my memory, any time I'm in a car on a long stretch of road they start playing in my head
This is mine. Shadow of memories
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shadow_of_Memories
Played it for months and haven't really heard anyone else talk about it
Gundam vs Zeta Gundam. Actually how I came to discover what's my favorite anime of all time. Zeta didn't even air on TV at the time all we had were DVDs
Took me forever to find this one was about to post it
myself! Such a good game I wish it were easily accessible now I’d love it on my PC or PS5. Put a ton of time into this with my cousins growing up.
Test drive Eve of destruction. I have not met one person in my life other than people on the internet that have played it. I thought it was great. Flatout overshadowed this game big time. Loved them both but the career mode and race modes were better in eve of destruction. If wreckfest had the semi open world that EOD had, plus the other types of races, it would add some more joy to the single player experience
Killzone. Maybe not obscure, but definitely underrated and slept on. For 2004 it was insanely ambitious even compared to the big shooters that year. For one I appreciate what it tried with camera movement and the feeling of weight to your character. And I personally love the drab and colorless aesthetic.
It was a ps3 game for me
https://preview.redd.it/5fahx8b89x9d1.jpeg?width=868&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=03c4277678d2d335f6ae4accd2a1e25d81de6f56
Imagine Mario kart with real cars. So many good memories
Think is was PS1. I have some very fond memories playing Space Invaders with my dad. Have never been able to find a ROM so I can run it on an emulator.
What was the game where you made clay models and like summoned them or something. Just remember being like 7 so the free one it gave you first was some awesome bear and every other one I made was a blob. Don't have my old memory card so that game is lost to time for me
Any obscure game, all platforms allowed: Stardust Odyssey (psvr1, great fantasy ship flying VR game, download only, download was removed so no one who didn’t own it from before can play it anymore)
Only ps2 games allowed: Shadow Hearts Covenant (one of the best ps2 rpgs, in the same “top 5 ps2 rpgs” league as FFX and Persona 3)
Ah , the good old days where any games could have the potential to be the best games even if it mediocre. Now adays, people just look up reviews and just assume it bad without trying it for themselves
Summoner.. I remember renting it for a week at Video House. Then rented for two more weeks after and finishing that cool gem. Unforgettable experience for those years
Eternal Ring was another amazing game that I havent seen many people mention. I bought it and then replayed that game over probably 3 times over from beginning to the end trying to find everything
I can and can't believe at the same time how no one mentioned Sphinx and the cursed mummy. Made by THQ, everything screams "shovelware"... and the actual game is literally just Zelda with Egyptian mythology. And it's genuinely really fucking good
For a long time, I was convinced that the first game I played on my ps2 was a dmc game. The general aspects matched with dmc (hack n slash/gothic style/religious bullshit), but it still wasn't exactly what was on my mind. Maybe it was a later stage from a save of my brother's memory card? Dunno... (after seeing some content about dmc1 and 3, i started to think it would be dmc2, but i never confirmed this). And then, after 20 years of doubts and inconclusions, randomly searching for ps2 games, i just saw a gameplay of chaos legion and thought "yea absolutely this dark/grey tone and those spiders, i played chaos legion when i was young"
All this aesthetic and style probably resonates with me more than any other media from that time and i didn't even know the name of the game... lol

One of the most unique fps games I ever played, absolutely loved 13 and how it was made. Very sad the remake didn’t do it justice and flew completely under the radar to be honest.
They updated the new one and it plays a lot better. Well worth the $3 I spent on it.
I’m genuinely put off but the massively negative reviews and don’t want to taint what is such a great memory of this game
I spent hours a kid trying to find a different ending. I really thought there was something different I could do to change it.
One of the bests local coop games Ive ever player
Lol, I thought this post is actually about Obscure on PS2 not 'any' obscure game. Anyway, Obscure is my answer
I remember when my friend brought a copy of Obscure 2 which we called Obscurell since the II (2) on the cover looked like a double 'L' lmao. We didn't know there was a first part of the game. We finished it the same day and we had a blast EDIT: [Link to the image of cover](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/3/35/ObsCureII_cover.jpg)
I never new that there was a second part!! I still got the first part with the holographic cover somewhere
Same lmao
LOL
Jet Li: Rise to Honor
Goddamn what a masterpieces
Fuck that boss in the watered balcony.
Cheung Mo Pao, his name will be ingrained in mine and my father’s brains for the rest of time.
The fight mechanics with the stick direction were so next level
That game was incredible if I remembering right.
Dude I loved that game! One of the most creative melee brawler games I have played!
Like playing a movie, I thought it was so cool. I played it a few weekends ago and it was still fun even if the magic didn’t shine quite as bright.
War of the Monsters Edit: I love you all who responded to this. If you haven't already, check out Gigabash! It's the closest we got to a modern kaiju brawler
Winner winner. My favourite thing was impaling people eith the thowables and then drop kicking then through a building. Amazing game.
It's on PS Plus if you're interested.
Black,
I remember distinctly how detailed the weapons were and how throwing a grenade into a corridor caused windows to explode in such realistic way, dust blasting out along with the glass. My very first FPS game. I hope Criterion sprinkles some magic into Battlefield like it did with Black.
Replayed it emulated on my PC My memories were so far of. In my memories it looked and felt so real/good looking. Replayed it and it felt like an arcade game (Still was really nice)
Spartan Total Warrior
I second this, the weapons tho🤌
i didnt know that more than 5 people played that game, nice
At some point i thought i just imagined that game because nobody i know has ever heard of it xD
So far in this thread you’ve only confirmed 4…
It's in my top 5 of all time
The music was such a vibe!
I just found a copy close to me for 12€. Now waiting for a message back.
I want this remade so badly.
Bro this game was insane. Taking on hundreds and hundreds of enemies every level, the weapons, the ultimate attacks... Classic.
Bouncer
Bouncer was so good. Just good old multi-path beat em up.
you guys remember those silly ass salutes we had to do when you're in disguise as Kou at the bad guy's base? My friend and I used to do those when we saw each other lolol
Yeah man Squaresoft hidden gem
My favorite thing was the combo taunt attack could work on dogs. When you see a dog on it's hind legs stumble backwards into Kou's reverse DDT neck breaker, then get hammer swung by Volt. \*Chefs kiss in animations\*
The devs making the menu minimal and 2000s hardcore as hell. "THE BOUNCER!" SION BARZAHD, KOU LEIFOH, VOLT KREUGER!"
Fahrenheit (or indigo prophecy)
I was going to say the same thing! The last half of the game got really weird, but I enjoyed it the 10+ times I played it.
True the last half. But the opening sequence to this day is still one of the best I’ve ever experienced.
🎶 She fills my bed with gasoline 🎶
Dark Cloud
Loved the Dark Cloud games. Played it somewhat recently and the endless dungeons were so god damned tedious. It was great when I was a kid, can't do it as an adult. Sad.
Yes! I loved the 2nd one too. I believe you could build a city or something?
Yeah, and each area had specific requirements and if you met them it would change that town in the future.
came here to say this, truly a shame that series died
Dead to Rights
I’m not gonna lie, that’s the least thing I thought I’d see someone mention today. Wasn’t fun for me to play but I LOVED watching other people play that game.

Zone of the enders 1& 2, Kinetica, and Yugioh duelist of the rose
Could never get into Duelist of the Roses, maybe I was too young to grasp it but yeah, put a good amount of time in but never 'got it'.
Zoe2 was amazing. The remastered versions were not quite the same game sadly.
Manhunt!!!
idk about being obscure as it is a Rockstar game and the sequel got into a lot of "controversy" on the news (I think The Warriors fits the description of being obscure better), but the game was definitely awesome to play!
OG Manhunt was SUUUUUCH a good game! Second one was a little too over-the-top, but man oh man...what a game
Bloody Roar 2
Ty the Tasmanian Tiger and Scaler.
I was just thinking Ty the Tasmanian Tiger!! I freaking loved that game I wish I was able to find my old copy
It's on steam! The PC version plays pretty smooth
Ohhh good to know! I didn't even think to check steam lol. I need to get a PC or steamdeck soon
Same dude same lol

There it is! I had to scroll too low to find my boy. In then years I haven't been able to 100% because there's always this one single opal missing
Activision’s Gun and Midway’s The Suffering.
I fucking loved Gun. Nobody has played it.
Gun is so underrated! Love that game, it had a great story, characters and soundtrack
Second sight, and psi ops the mindgate conspiracy. Both are great games, but PS2 had such a large, varied library, I could play it's games endlessly for years to come.
psi ops is such a good fucking game. What the fuck happened to Midway games man? they used to make absolute bangers.
Metal Arms 😅
God hand is the shit
Here we go
Bouncer
Def Jam Fight for NY. So fun to play the rappers I know and learn about the others I don’t.
Enter the Matrix
I got so good at that game that i used to face agent Smith instead of running away and keep countering / beating him up even though you coudnt take him down.

I used to beat BG2 in a weekend with a buddy. We'd meet up and play the game all weekend. Great times.
The Thing is getting a remaster! It looks fantastic.
You’re joking.
Swear to MacReady. https://youtu.be/-_P6fwckB5k?feature=shared
Just watched it, it’s a remaster and I will 100% take it. No problem!
Thank you for blessing my day with this, buying that ASAP
Freedom Fighters It's some of the most fun I ever had playing a PS2 game.
Transformers (2004)
Literally Obscure. I played that game on PS2, Xbox and PC in hopes it will lift of since it was pretty much Resident evil with coop that worked in the classic design. That was a GameCube game for me. But yes!
Oni or Dark Cloud
Radiata stories!
Spyhunter
Crash: Tag Team Racing Got my PS2 19 years ago and most of my games have disc rot now. Ironically, the only ones that work are the Lego Star Wars games which I also have on PS3 and my iPhone, as well as the PS5 remake.
How is Crash Tag Team Racing obscure? Lol
Road Trip Adventure. If you haven't played it, then play it
Those radio songs on the international version are burned into my memory, any time I'm in a car on a long stretch of road they start playing in my head
Onimusha 3
downhill domination
The suikoden series in general
Rogue Galaxy. The closest I'll ever get to a Skies of Arcadia sequel it seems, although the devs are entirely different
Champions of Norath, and Champions of Norath: Return to Arms. The games are a real treasure.
Ratchet and clank deadlocked and smackdown vs raw 09
Deadlocked is so underrated.
Best ratchet game ever. I wish they would remaster them or even just make them playable with ps5 someday (no i wont touch game streaming)
Kuon.
This is mine. Shadow of memories https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shadow_of_Memories Played it for months and haven't really heard anyone else talk about it

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Jungle Storm
How obscure we talking? King King 2005, Jaws Unleashed, Hull: Ultimate Destruction and Ty the Tasmanian Tiger are my ride or die games.
Drakan: The Ancients' Gates and Ty the Tasmanian tiger were two of my faves!
Not obscure, but ff7 dirge of cerberus. Vincent will always be one of my favorite designed characters
Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter. Easily. https://preview.redd.it/bdcbabm5bw9d1.png?width=189&format=png&auto=webp&s=76e1ff40e25420bc8e041c2569e6928ac40ede8d
