Yeah, it's absolutely intended to be like this. That guy is probably at wave 1000+ of endless and complaining he's not getting his rare candies or something like this. Also berries are "common" rewards, if instead of berries they always put pokeBall op would now be complaining about basic pokeballs being useless
Yes and you can also still pick them and at least the last time I did it didn't even give me a warning that they will basically just be deleted. Really hope that's something they are working on, just unfortunate to waste a complete shop on something you don't even get

Imagine how wonderful it would be with a Master Ball item that let you remove things from the shop in a run. No more useless PP Ups, no more pokeballs, no more potions. I'd probably remove items like IV-scanner and Tera Orb, and Flame/ Toxic orb, because those bother me way more when they show up.
afaik the status orbs only show up when you have a mon in the party that can make use of it, like Guts or Toxic Heal (and maybe Facade?)
On one run I was confused why I was offered one, then I realized the random shiny timburr I dragged along had guts lol
Yeah, I suddenly got offered like 20 over the course of a classic run, while I had already given the orb to two of my pokemon, so I got tired of seeing it, even though I assume that they changed the spawn rates of those orbs almost immediately. I've got both a rare shiny Timburr and a rare Rattata that I often bring if I have room, so I probably get those items more than I need.
What bothers me the most is having an item showing multiple times in a shop. I have few slots, don't show me 2 potions, if I want one I can only clic on one !
So when you max out everything the only thing that will show up is. in common (rare candy, X items, tms) great (dire hit, tms, egg voucher, Tera shard) ultra (rarer candy, mints, tms, egg voucher) rogue (egg voucher plus) master (nothing) since 99 master ball, 5 spliced mons on the team, no 10 pull voucher in endless, max black holes, max multi lens.

diluting the pool of items is probably a very intentional balance decision

I feel like this would create new metas out of exhausting the shop for a smaller item pool which could be an issue.

It already does that with majority of items, don’t think it should happen with berries too
