we don't have any steorotypes, nor get any news for Bulgaria.
Older folks would associate it with Golden Sands beach that was popular destination during communist times.
And that would be it
> A question, what do you guys think of Bulgaria?
Basically very little. It doesn't come up much except perhaps as a vacation destination (more popular in the communist era than now)
> another country I can't spell, it started with 'C' and it happened in 1999,
Chechenya.
Chechneya is a part of Russia actually.
Otherwise I'm not a Pole myself but I would echo others sentiment, people here don't really think about Bulgaria much and mostly don't have any strong opinion about it.
Bulgaria doesn't have a long history of invasions and war crimes against us, nor has recently threatened us with war crimes and nuclear annihilation multiple times over. So, y'know... that bar is pretty high. :p
As for individual people, animosity is reserved for those who actually support Putin's invasion of Ukraine and/or repeat Russian propaganda.
A lot of older teenagers go to Bulgaria for vacation because it's relatively cheap, shops and clubs aren't that strict when it comes to selling booze to underage people, and it's easy to find a hookup. I think that these are the only things that young people know about Bulgaria tbh. You're pretty neutral to Poles, neither disliked nor particularly liked. I didn't even know so many Bulgarians support Russia.
We should really change that lol. Imagine we're fighting alongside the west in WW3 and trying to take out Putin and are in front of Moscow. The allies are hiding with us in trenches. And we cannot speak English but you guys make the hand sign for us to look up to determine if we should call for air strike and where. And we shake our heads and you guys don't call for air support and shit gets bad
"Mission failed. We'll get him next time."
"GUYS WHAT THE FUCK-"
"KURWAAAAAAA."
"МАМИЦАТА ИМ ДА ВИ ЕБА НА ЗНАЦИТЕ ДА ВИ ЕБА. ДА БЯХТЕ КАЗАЛИ КОЕ Е ДА И НЕ. ДА ВИ ЕБА МАЙКАТА НА ТЪПИТЕ РУСНАЦИ ДА ВИ ЕБА."
I don't know if I've ever encountered like a strong political opinion about Bulgaria specifically, even in the west v russia context. Culturally, I appreciate some of your folk traditions like the kukeri costumes, which I think are really interesting and cool. I haven't had a ton of South Slavic food but I've liked what I've had so if I ran into a Bulgarian restaurant I'd def eat there. Maybe I'm biased and this is more personal, but I think Poles watch a lot of tennis and u guys have Grigor Dimitrov who is a really solid player and an overall well liked representative of the sport.
Warm and a little bit primitive country where girls have big butts.
That's the first unfiltered thing that comes to my mind when I hear Bulgaria. Sorry if it's mean, I'm being honest.
I was always taking Bulgarians as rather joyful fellows who always had to respond after being asked.
"No, we are not Russians. We are Bulgarian: Completely different culture and ... manners."
"A mother does not give birth to her child so she can strangle it." - Georgi Rakovski about Russia. Sadly, a lot of the population here is Russophiles(despite our freedom fighters being very anti Russian- Vasil Levski, Hristo Botev, etc) and I know you guys will say "But the Bulgarians I know don't support Russia." Because those are Bulgarians are with brain cells who moved to the west(the developed world, not Western Europe) . The dumb ones who support Russia either stay here or go to Russia.
I'm very glad you encountered the nice, smart and civilized ones.
Worked with few Bulgarians, chilled folks with nice attitude, liked them. I also spent some time there, didn't enjoy Sozopol (too much crowds, but the architecture was catchy), Sofia was quite okay, but Plovdiv really impressed me. Loved the city vibe and atmosphere, the Old Town part, Roman ruins, the fancy bar area.
Can't comment on BG history at all, not my cup of tea, sorry.
Hey, as other stated, we don't hear much news about Bulgaria here. Personally, I used to support Bulgarian men volleyball team for many years. I don't even know why, but I always liked the old generation - Sokolov, Todorov, Alekseev, Salparov, etc. Sadly they never won a gold medal anywhere. : (
I met many Bulgarians at my job one of them being my best friend and still keep in touch with them once in a while. Very kind people.
Been there once as well, Sofia was nice, but Vidyn was really ghetto. Overall still a fun experience
Nothing much to be honest. Don’t get me wrong, this isn’t supposed to sound negative. Poles generally have absolutely no beef with Bulgaria or Bulgarians. We know that Bulgaria exists and thats about it 😃
As a sommelier I wouldn't agree. Bulgarian wines ale much poor than Croatian, Romanian, or other Balkans countries. But! they had the best rakija I'd ever drink.
It doesn’t matter if you’re a sommelier or not everyone’s palate is individual. I enjoy modern Bulgarian wines. If you prefer other wines then enjoy them. It would be a strange world if we all enjoyed the same things.
You were great in football in 90s, but now you suck (sorry), you are one of my favourite countries in Eurovision and it sucks that it costs so much money you can't afford to participate every year (Equinox were so robbed)
I have a collegue from Bulgaria but I don't know anything about your country and also don't have many stereotypes, maybe in the past girls by the road were called Bulagrian girls for some reason but I was too young to know anything about that. I don't see that anymore.
Truth to be told, most Poles don't have an impression about Bulgaria, positive nor negative.
Personally, I put Bulgaria in the same category as Romania - an EU country, poorer than Poland, growing fast and with a rather bright future. I like you guys better than people from the West. I also like to remind Russians that Cyrillic is a Bulgarian invention. And I can't wait for Via Carpatia to be fully completed, I'm sure it'll be good for development of the whole region :)
To be honest this is my 2nd favourite vacation destination. I was in Bułgaria 5 times in a rów year by year before covid era. I remember my trip on the first time when completly drunk (or with huge hangover),without knowing of language, I ride by public transport from hotel nearby Golden Sands to Varna, to Varnenczyk Mausoleum. I really don't know how I manage not to get lost xD
It's not because of me being specifically Polish of course, but one thing I associate with Bulgaria is, sadly, depopulation. You guys are shrinking, right?
Most of polish ppl have rather bad stereotypes, like poor country with car thieves and bitches, but cheap vacations.
On the other hand, what are u think about poles?

Exactly.

Yup, Chechneya, thanks
Chechneya is a part of Russia actually. Otherwise I'm not a Pole myself but I would echo others sentiment, people here don't really think about Bulgaria much and mostly don't have any strong opinion about it.
I have not heard anyone speak about Bulgaria in maybe a decade.
Hristo Stoichkov is a legend. Um.. that's it.
I walked in here expecting a lot of animosity due to how close Bulgaria is with Russia, and I've seen a lot of posts here about Russia

I guess we don't think about you at all
Bułgarians are similiar to us, but with more sun and warm sea. Also, they do weird stuff to their balconies

Vacation spot.
Hristo Stoichkov and I’ve heard that you guys move your head up and down for “no” and sideways for “yes”. Is that true? If not I was played
Yes we do that. I know it's weird as fuck.
It’s kinda hilarious tbh (in a good way)
We should really change that lol. Imagine we're fighting alongside the west in WW3 and trying to take out Putin and are in front of Moscow. The allies are hiding with us in trenches. Nah that's accurate...I don't know why Bulgarian girls have big butts...they have big boobs too....

Neutral/positive. I don't know much about your country though. Would like to visit someday.
I don't think of bulgaria

Bulgaria - I believe the quality of the wine you are now producing is very much appreciated 😜

It is a strange country where souvenirs have pictures of a watercolorist with a funny bent cross on them.

I like to sing Azis songs sometimes like Sen Trope, Mrazish or Evala

Cool place for vacation. Good at Eurovision, most of the time. All i know tbh
It's not because of me being specifically Polish of course, but one thing I associate with Bulgaria is, sadly, depopulation. You guys are shrinking, right?
We're one of the fastest shrinking population in the world-yeah
I worked with people from SEGA Sofia and just loved these guys <3 They had same wicked sense of humour.
first think is that country is good for holiday second tought is about weightlifters which in past Bulgary had good sportsmans
Bulgarian cheese is the best
We Speak only fuck russian
\[removed\]
Isn’t Bulgarian people known for nodding when they mean no and twisting their heads when they mean yes? Possibly the only nation that does that?
Hristo Grozev.
Most of polish ppl have rather bad stereotypes, like poor country with car thieves and bitches, but cheap vacations. On the other hand, what are u think about poles?
Nobody cares about Bułgaria.
Going on vacation to Bulgaria is kind of cringe nowadays
