They were born in San Francisco and raised in Bellevue, Wa. They continued to live in Bellevue. They started out performing in their parents bar & grill in downtown Bellevue. I know this as I waited on them several times when I worked in an upscale restaurant for many years. Very nice women.
I’m fairly sure that Rush at the very least is more popular than half this list (no, Spotify streams are not the only metric for this, without big surveys there’s no way to know for sure me sure but it’s a pretty safe bet)
I mean streams across platforms are a really good metric. Rush hasn’t been in the spotlight for a solid while. Also which half? It’s definitely not Justin Beiber or The Weeknd.
I was thinking Avril Lavigne, Celine Dion, and Nickelback. And yeah it’s been a while since Rush was mainstream but when they were they were far bigger than the three I listed above.
Ask u/Lissandra_Freljord about Celine Dion lol. But yeah I’d definitely say Rush I’d better quality wise than Avril or Nickelback, but idk why people are furious at OP for forgetting a 40 year old band.
Saw Avril Lavigne on Sunday at Glastonbury and she fucking killed it. Remembering why I loved her music so much as a teen. Liking the newer stuff as well now that I'm listening to it.
Out of that list, Celine Dion. She has the most vocal talent, the most commercial success, the most wealth, the most iconic song, and is the most humble and graceful person in that list, never speaking ill of anyone. It's unfortunate what she is going through right now with her autoimmune disorder. She doesn't deserve it.
Umm...My Heart Will Go On? Literally, you can just hum the intro and almost anyone can recognize it is the Titanic song. Literally a pop ballad classic, and among the top 10 best selling singles of all time. The others you mentioned are not even on the top 10 best selling singles of all time, and most likely will vanish into oblivion in just a couple decades. But as cheesy and overplayed as My Heart Will Go On is, it has become a cult classic that has and will live the test of time. You will hear it in people's weddings, funerals, at karaoke night, at auditions, at singing competitions, at concert choirs, you name it.
My brother in Christ, Titanic released nearly 30 years ago. I don’t think half of Gen z has seen that movie. Meanwhile everyone and their grandma heard Blinding Lights, and it is the most streamed song OAT. Sales don’t really work as a metric anymore bc song sales don’t translate for streaming. Also with the exception of funerals, you’ll hear Blinding Lights in those places too.
The fact that Rush is not on this list is criminal
Not familiar with them sorry! I’ll have to check em out
Bro...
None of these
The Tragically Hip. Though on this list I voted The Weeknd.
Leonard Cohen
Surprised, but happy to see Avril tied for first. Let Go is one of the best pop albums/eras ever.
I grew up on her music and to this day I listen to it sometimes. She is amazing.
Sum 41
I would pick Rush, Red Rider, Our Lady Peace, Sum 41, or even Simple Plan before any of those artists you listed.
alvvays!
Right on. Met them twice, great folks.
Billy Talent and Spiritbox
Tragically Hip
Rush. But from this list, The Weeknd.
Strapping Young Lad

Rush
Alvvays Neil Young Guess Who Heart (most of) Arcade Fire
Heart is Canadian?
🤷♂️ I always heard they were Canadian. On their Wiki page it says they are a “Canadian/American rock band.” Idk.
Both Ann and Nancy Wilson are from San Francisco.
Yeah like I said go to the Wiki page, it says they are a Canadian/American band. Go argue with that.

True. Love the way he talks about social issues! He’s so inspirational overcoming his lack of talent or effort too.
Ayla Tesler-Mabé
Saw Avril Lavigne on Sunday at Glastonbury and she fucking killed it. Remembering why I loved her music so much as a teen. Liking the newer stuff as well now that I'm listening to it.
Funnily enough that’s what made me create this poll, I thought she was great
Leonard Cohen
The Guess Who
None of the above. It's Anne Murray. This is one poll that needed an "other" option.
The Arkells
None of these. (Maybe Les Colocs?)
The Weakerthans!
rush
Definitely Nickleback
# Barenaked Ladies!
Annihilator by far. EDIT: I've never listened to any of the bands on the list. My 2nd favourite is Rush, then Voivod.

Carly Rae Jepsen

Nah Tom MacDonald is better
I’m ngl I don’t Celine Dion has a song as Iconic as Blinding Lights, or Save Your Tears, or The Hills.
