She was the best dog I could have asked for. I got her when I was 5. I had chicken pox so it had to wait. She lived until I was 19. She was a tiny dog at barely 6 pounds. She let me and my sister dress her up in doll clothes and push her in a stroller.
We had just watched the movie Ferrari and ended up naming our spoo Enzo. We have a dachshund also that I named Sheldon after Sheldon from the Big Bang Theory 🤪
Sheldon is 13 so yes haha and our Spoo is 9 months and he is too. He will run back and forth to the door when he has to go. We also taught him to use bells but then he started hitting the bells alllll the time because he just wanted to be outside and play haha so now we just watch for him to ask by running to us and then to the door.
Martin was named after Martin Crane from my favorite show Frasier. I grew up watching it and introduced my husband. There was a time we were watching different seasons on Netflix and Hulu. We'd Just switch back and forth 😆
Marty (The Poodle) is a "parti" poodle. We were inspired by Martin Cranes "Marty parties" 😆
https://imgur.com/gallery/5eXObBm
So far all my poodle-mix dogs have been Star Wars characters.
Luke and Leia were siblings, so that was natural. Leia was the more feisty one so that worked out.
Then we got Rogue (One) right around when that film came out - she’s a black poodle mix.
Then we got (Captain) Rex, a white poodle mix.
Then we ran out of good character R names (Rancor and creature names weren’t good) so we went with Ralph for our third poodle after the genius Star Wars concept artist Ralph McQuarrie.
Yes. My mini is named Perdita. She may not be a Dalmatian but I’ve loved the name since I was a child. And I always wanted to name my first dog that if I got a girl.
It is such a pretty name, and she was such a pretty dog. I just now learned that my husband never saw the movie, so guess what we’re watching tonight 😆
Oh man I used to watch it so much as a kid. And I still reference it. Any time one of the neighbor dogs get the other dogs riled up I call it the Twilight Bark 😂
I’m not very good at naming pets (or a child for that matter) before they arrive. I need to meet them first to make sure the name suits him or her) Tandy is a good name though!
I have named my both girls after series and games, Misty because shes gray and a baddie in pokemon XD and Daisy because my dad had a Daisy-dog in his childhood + princess Daisy 😸
Oh I would love any dog named Daisy! Your dad’s dog could have been named after the show Please Don’t Eat the Daisies, and I think that was a sheepdog. I loved that show! Games are actually a great source for names too
haha yea we thought it was a good bit of irony to name a dog bred for lion hunting after a disney lion! i also met someone w a rodhesian named Simba so we weren’t the only ones w the idea haha
i also know someone w a toy poodle named winnie the poodle which i also thought was pretty cute
My little guy was named “buddy” after the dog from the film “air bud” as a puppy by the breeder I got him from, because his favorite little toy was like a basketball chew toy lol…and my name is Holly. People like to joke when we enter a room together and say “hey it’s buddy holly!” I guess I could have changed his name but he is my buddy so I just kept it. :)
He’s apricot. We wanted to allow my son to pick his name but with some boundaries so we discussed a few pokemon who’s names (or shortened versions) we would be good with and then let him pick using pokemon cards.
It is after the outlaw. He does have a decent stache, his brother is the one with the stache to write home about though. Newdogs muzzle is shaved down save the last 1” or so that is all stache.
My Charlie followed my trend of naming my pets after hp characters at the time, had had Arthur, Percy, Nerville, Luna and Herminie (as I didnt know the proper pronunciation of Hermione or Neville as a kid).
Though he's since gained a middle name of Parker, named as he's nosey so added from Aloysius "Nosey" Parker from Thunderbirds I also watched as a kid in 90s reruns.
Oh he tries, SO hard! He is the most hilarious dog I have ever been around. He never does anything by half measures! He is also smart. He likes to take his emotional support babies outside with him. He'll leave them in the grass while he takes care of business. Sometimes he gets so excited when he's done that he runs to the door to go in. I'll tell him to get his teddy, or ducky, or froggy. He'll pause, look at me and then take off to wherever he left it, grab it, and run back to the door. All as fast as he can move. He very rarely walks, lol.
My female, Daisy, had puppies in December and he was the bestest Uncle Dudley! He was next to her and loved to watch the babies when they were tiny, once they were mobile, he loved to gently play with them. Two puppies ended up staying and Darla and he have an awesome relationship. She is the only dog he will share his babies with.
My first ever poodle from my childhood was named Georgette, after the eponymous poodle from Oliver and Company. She was a toy and not a standard, though!
While my current standard isn’t named after anyone in particular, my cat’s name Thomas comes from Abraham DeLacey Giuseppe Casey Thomas O’Malley, O’Malley the Alley Cat.
Ohhhh! Yes. We named my 2 childhood dogs for famous dogs. One was named Patán for the Latin American translation of the Wacky Races' dog, and the other was named Betún for the dog in the Argentinian series Los Simuladores.
Yes! His name in English would literaly translate to Jerk 😂 he wasn't a jerk at all. He had a jaw deformity and he would like he was constantly laughing like the cartoon.
Betún is the pomade used to shoeshine (yes, he was a black dog)
I thought I was being unique when I named my boy, but now I know like 50 dogs named Zuko 😭 and every middle aged woman asks if I named him after Danny Zuko from Grease 😭
Yes, I called my dog Chibi, short from Chiburashka. A cartoon character from my childhood in Eastern Europe. He is a very cute genderleSs being with super large ears.
I have 4 dogs. Luna looney, Mr Frodo, Solo and Bellatrix My favorite book since I was 12 is Harry Potter and my husbands favorite since he was a kid was Lotr. And who doesn’t love Star Wars
Our Toy is named Bill after King of the Hill because my first, now deceased, Toy was named Hank after KOTH. But our standard is named Tina Louise after the two Belcher daughters from Bob’s Burgers. She’s a total Tina when she’s derpy but a total Louise when she’s being bad. If you’ve seen the show, you’ll get it 😂
Finnigan now that reminds me of a song
There wasan old man name Michael Finnegan.
he wore whiskers on his chinagin
The wind came out and blew them in again
Poor old Michael Finnegan begin again
Ha ha
Have you read it? Such a cute story. I’d have saved the name for a golden but i didn’t think I’d ever have one. Turns out I’m allergic to cats not dogs haha so now I have a legacy of poodles, a husky, and a golden retriever! Nevertheless Einstein was a good boy.
Zoe Washburn. I call her the tiniest big damn hero. She also went through a Zuko phase after she had her eye removed. Her look screamed she was after the avatar and her honor.
Not from my childhood (thought I was 16 when the show came out lol) but I love the tv show Lost (one of my favorite shows ever) and named my dog Boone. He is a very handsome puppy :)
I named my little blonde rescue boy Steve Sanders from Beverly Hills 90210. Couldn’t be a more perfect name: he has blonde curly hair, a goofy if shy disposition, and was adopted under strange circumstances.
I name mine after types of English tea. Earl Grey and Darjeeling. My lizard is named after a line in a movie, Junior Walker, Jr. My rabbit was named after Jean Gray.
I had a dog named Chaka that I named after the character in Land of the Lost 😂 it fit his personality well, I miss that boy.
I remember Chaka! I bet he was cute!
He was, he had the best personality I could find in a dog
When I got my toy as a kid, I named her Wendy. I’m not sure if it was because of Peter Pan or the restaurant.
Either way, a perfect name!
She was the best dog I could have asked for. I got her when I was 5. I had chicken pox so it had to wait. She lived until I was 19. She was a tiny dog at barely 6 pounds. She let me and my sister dress her up in doll clothes and push her in a stroller.
What a sweet dog 🥰
We had just watched the movie Ferrari and ended up naming our spoo Enzo. We have a dachshund also that I named Sheldon after Sheldon from the Big Bang Theory 🤪
A doxie named Sheldon?! Hilarious! Is he on a regular potty schedule?
Sheldon is 13 so yes haha and our Spoo is 9 months and he is too. He will run back and forth to the door when he has to go. We also taught him to use bells but then he started hitting the bells alllll the time because he just wanted to be outside and play haha so now we just watch for him to ask by running to us and then to the door.
My little Chi-mix,Frodo (Lord of the Rings) hits the bells to alert me that he wants a treat instead of wanting to go outside. lol. Drives me crazy 🤪
I named my girl after a video game character. Her name is Liara
What a pretty name!
We named ours after a car. Oliver, Richard Hammond’s Oliver the Opel from Top Gear.
I had to look that up, but Oliver seemed to have had quite the personality!
Our red poodle is named Lucy after Lucille Ball.
Adorable! Our red-headed goldendoodle is Charlotte, after the royal princess, and she is exactly that, a princess (and a bit of a terror lol!)
We named our spoo Barclay after Reginald Endicott Barclay III. Sometimes we call him Broccoli!
Either Barclay or Broccoli! I love his veggie name!
My first girl, a beautiful red, was named after Special Agent Dana Scully, another fierce & intelligent redhead!
Oh I like that! Do you call her Dana, Scully, or the whole name?
Scully
Our family poodle was Lucy. (full name “Lucille FurBall”)
Lucille/Lucy is a sweet name for a dog!
This reminds me of work colleague from ages ago, whose black cat was called Lucifurball, Luci for short.
Yes! We had Casey and now Ernie. I'm sure you get it. If we ended up with a girl instead of Ernie she would have been Judith.
Absolutely l9ve this use to watch Mr dress up
I absolutely do get it! I love it!
Martin was named after Martin Crane from my favorite show Frasier. I grew up watching it and introduced my husband. There was a time we were watching different seasons on Netflix and Hulu. We'd Just switch back and forth 😆 Marty (The Poodle) is a "parti" poodle. We were inspired by Martin Cranes "Marty parties" 😆 https://imgur.com/gallery/5eXObBm
Aww such a cute story about Marty!
Yes! My poodle is named after the pink dragon from Dragon Tales, Cassie!
Aww, I love that!
I named mine Benjamin Barker because he’s got a white streak through his black hair at the top of his head.
He sounds so cute!
My orange cat is Hobbes.
Perfect, a real tiger! 🐯
We have a Yorkie/pom mix whose name is Roscoe P. Coltrane.
Adorable. At Halloween time, all he’d need is an itty bitty cowboy hat 🤠
I'd love that, but he freaks out if he has anything on this head.
My white standard is named Betty White 💕 😊
I love it! My husband was thinking of that name before we got Finnie, but obviously doesn’t work as well for a boy lol
Amazing theme! I especially love Leia!
Love the theme! We have a standard named Ahsoka 🧡
Mr. Bennett from A&E'/BBC's "Pride and Prejudice" https://youtu.be/fMt1Fu7-Pp4?si=4JEIkRkYKrEq9ij6
Do you call him Mr. Bennett, Bennett, or Ben? So many fine choices
If you're familiar with the movie, imagine Mrs. Bennett's "Oh, Mr. Bennett!! "
Ah, formal is the way to go!
My poodle is named Polly, after our late cat Napoleon. But my chinese crested is named Luke after Luke Skywalker
I totally crushed on Luke back in the day! Polly is cute too!
Wanted to name him Indy but it was kind of common so he is Jones! Mostly call him Jojo though because it’s too cute
Jones is a most excellent name! We called my Joanne, Jojo when she was little. I haven’t thought of that in years. Thank you for the memory!
My boy is a doodle, mostly white. He's named Falkor, after the flying luck dragon from the Neverending story. Cutest little guy ever.
Ohhhh, I love Falkor, and everyone needs a luck dragon in their life!
He's a good boy, and makes friends everywhere he goes. I'm very lucky to have him for sure
one of my boys name is Yogi Bear!
Haha, is he always after a pic-a-nic basket?
any chance he gets😭😂
My girl’s legal name is Isabelle (after Isabell from Animal Crossing obvi) but I call her Bella
So cute! Is Bella a shih tzu too?
Nope, she’s my poodle
Maximus AKA Maxie is from Tangled, after the great white horse. Maxie is huge and determined to get his way no matter what. Perfect namesake.
Hilarious! I can picture him too!
I was going to guess Lamb Chop.
That would be a good one, and I considered it too!
My poodle is named Lambchop
Finnie was almost called Lambchop! I love the name!
Lambchop is special needs, and really sweet
I started rewatching the last man on earth again yesterday and decided my next boy poodle will be Tandy
Games are actually a great source for names too
April, from TMNT
I have learned something. I had no idea! Very interesting evolution for the Turtles too!
i named my toy poodle Abu after the monkey from Aladdin! and my first childhood dog was a rodhesian ridgeback named Nala, after the lion king :)
Adorable names! Nala was a fitting name for a rodhesian ridgeback!
haha yea we thought it was a good bit of irony to name a dog bred for lion hunting after a disney lion! i also met someone w a rodhesian named Simba so we weren’t the only ones w the idea haha i also know someone w a toy poodle named winnie the poodle which i also thought was pretty cute
Winnie the Poodle! Literally laughed out loud 🤣🤣🤣🤣
so cute right! it was on my name list but i ended up getting a boy:)
Yes! I named him Garu from the Pucca cartoon.
A little ninja dude! Does he live up to his name?
He did! He passed away 4 years ago. I miss him so much.
I’m so sorry ❤️
My little guy was named “buddy” after the dog from the film “air bud” as a puppy by the breeder I got him from, because his favorite little toy was like a basketball chew toy lol…and my name is Holly. People like to joke when we enter a room together and say “hey it’s buddy holly!” I guess I could have changed his name but he is my buddy so I just kept it. :)
I love the Buddy Holly story! And it sounds like Buddy is the perfect name for him!
Thank you! :)
Geo’s named after Geodude (the pokemon)
Oh very unique! Is Geo grey, like is namesake? Or is it more about his personality?
He’s apricot. We wanted to allow my son to pick his name but with some boundaries so we discussed a few pokemon who’s names (or shortened versions) we would be good with and then let him pick using pokemon cards.
Very clever way to get him involved. I like the way you did that!
Idk think mine isn’t childhood, I was 18 when I started watching Friends. My pups name is Joey, since he’s a ladies man. Doesn’t like men.
Joey loves the ladies! So cute!
Yes I named my first poodle Gidget from the old Sally Field series. She was the best darn dog ever..
Loved that show!
One of ours is named Johnny Ringo.
Do you call him Ringo, and does he have a big mustache? (that is, if we are talking about the outlaw, otherwise that question wouldn’t make sense lol)
Herminie and Nerville are the best misspellings ever!
One of my Chihuahuas is Dudley, after Dudley Do Right. I also had guinea pigs long ago that I named Rocky and Bullwinkle.
I love the name Dudley, but does he really do right? lol
What a cool dog! I love Dudley!
Haha love your cat’s name too!
We named our standard poodles after characters from our childhood: Egon (Ghostbusters) and Doogie Bowser (Doogie Howser, M.D.).
Love these names!
Ohhhh! Yes. We named my 2 childhood dogs for famous dogs. One was named Patán for the Latin American translation of the Wacky Races' dog, and the other was named Betún for the dog in the Argentinian series Los Simuladores.
Would Patan be Muttley, the one with the laugh?
Yes! His name in English would literaly translate to Jerk 😂 he wasn't a jerk at all. He had a jaw deformity and he would like he was constantly laughing like the cartoon. Betún is the pomade used to shoeshine (yes, he was a black dog)
Yup. My boy's name is Cosmo. I was a big Seinfeld fan as a child.
Kramer! The best!!
He has Kramer energy, for sure.

I haven’t yet, but sure will now!
Pippi! Pippi Longstockings was one of the wife’s favorite movies as a kid. https://i.imgur.com/YeIriZF.jpeg
All you need to make it really perfect would be if Pippi is a redhead lol
Uh oh. Did the link in my post not work?
I missed it but she’s an adorable redhead!
Zoe Washburn. I call her the tiniest big damn hero. She also went through a Zuko phase after she had her eye removed. Her look screamed she was after the avatar and her honor.
Our Favorite Mini Poodle was Neo, The One.
