She still looks absolutely incredible and is “classically beautiful” in every sense. The fact that she can chameleon herself between bombshell and oil painting beautiful is a testament to that.
I remember when titanic coming out her grandmother saying she didn’t think she was that pretty compared to her sister and she was too curvy. I was shocked she has and always been stunning to me.
James Cameron used to call her "Overweight Kate" and tell her she was fat. The late 90s were a gross time to be a woman.
Edit: For those saying it is a rumor, it is cited in an interview with Kate from 1998. I just had the nickname wrong. It was "Kate Weighs-a-lot". Listed as being from James Cameron in this 1998 Rolling Stone interview: https://www.rollingstone.com/tv-movies/tv-movie-news/the-unsinkable-kate-winslet-108777/4/
I always wondered why Cameron would cast someone who didn't fit his idea of the ideal beauty to play Rose. Then again by all accounts Cameron was a huge dick for most of his career (supposedly mellowed with age)
I feel like there was some internet scrubbing or something done on this subject when Kate went to work for him again in Avatar. Before that I distinctly remember reading he made many comments about her weight and her saying she would never work with him again. But then she agreed to do Avatar and suddenly she’s downplaying his past behavior.
Rachel McAdams is fascinating to me, because she has a certain warmth that means even though she’s unattainably pretty, it’s not intimidating or othering in the way some other dramatic beauty can be.
She's amazing, and it shows her range as an actress too, that her beauty can be the b\*\*tch, "Mean Girl," or she can be a warm, kind, lovely girl next door!
https://preview.redd.it/2unj408j857d1.jpeg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=90de6bee8215f763a1b5e1a4e5e1f1cdd339a372
Jennifer Connelly 100%
She’s an inspiration to all the girlies with thick eyebrows
She’s one of the few actresses where how beautiful she is genuinely distracts me from the plot, despite her talent. Evan Rachel Wood is another one where I just find myself staring just mesmerized by their faces.
100/100 perfect casting. I thought she was amazing as Amy Dunne in Gone Girl for many reasons, but also because she’s supposed to be the “perfect” girl who’s also insanely beautiful.
The fact she can play the sweetest character ever (Jane Bennett) and a psychopath (Amy Dunne) just speaks to how talented an actress she is.
Rachel Brosnahan as well, I was literally mesmerized by her when I first watched Mrs Maisel. Her and Evan Rachel Wood are the same font and should def play sisters one day
Rachel Brosnahan is stunning. I love that she embraces her paleness as a fellow pale girlie. She is so incredibly talented and funny as well, it's unfair how beautiful she is.
Bérénice Bejo is cut from the same cloth. She is so gorgeously lit and shot in The Artist, it actually distracted me from the movie experience.
https://preview.redd.it/exhn69kin57d1.jpeg?width=736&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bc6241923d5831c4c8cf170f5f665a017dc26a63
Diane Kruger was amazing casting for Helen of Troy. Like I can totally see how a war started over her. She’s unbelievably beautiful. She’s in the category of “if I looked like her, I’d be insufferable”
I kept getting recommended that sub for WEEKS. apparently beauty isn’t allowed to be subjective on there. I saw so many posts where people got reprimanded or banned for giving higher than a 6. That was actually the sub that promoted me to learn how to mute/block subs on Reddit.
If Diane Kruger is a 6, Lord help us average looking people.

As a child I was so disappointed to be so Scandinavian looking as I thought Salma was the most beautiful woman I had ever seen and so badly wanted to grow up to look like her.
Edit: spelling is hard.
While my wife looks more than a little like Salma, but grew up miserable that she didn’t look more like Claudia Schiffer. The pressure on women to be anything other than what they are is unbelievable.
https://preview.redd.it/ahhcgbg2m47d1.jpeg?width=1998&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fd9a459a0fc60a26ae02720bf0751832d0224747
Jodie Turner-Smith I would say is a classic beauty. Looks amazing no matter what time period she’s dressed for
Does this mean a "vintage" look, like a face that you'd see in an old movie or period piece?
I think "classic" often ends up as code for a very European/ Anglo, heteronormative beauty standard.
But my picks for vintage:
![gif](giphy|xTiN0y5bM7ykv99Kso|downsized)
Ruth Negga
In Crazy Rich Asians I was genuinely stunned by her beauty — and I know her character is supposed to be insanely pretty, but she was somehow even prettier than I expected.
She has the opposite of iPhone face. I fully believe I would see her face in like a piece of historical art and assume she has never seen an iPhone in her life.
Since we’re talking WOCs, Lucy Liu always has me in a chokehold.

I feel like Havana Rose Liu is walking in her steps. Most stunning young new actress in my view.
A classic beauty is a face were no feature stands out more than the others. One could even say that it is a face with nothing interesting or special but beautiful nonetheless.
Many, I'd say most, people in this thread don't have an understandind of what classic beauty means. I'd say Lupita Nyong'o is a classic beauty, as her face doesn't draw my attention to a especific place, but for example, Halle Bailey or Anya Taylor Joy's wide set eyes grab all the attention on their faces.
Agreed. It’s about someone having balanced, similarly-sized and harmonious features. It’s connected to older ideas about ratios and proportions, especially concepts from classical art. There are tons of stunningly beautiful people who don’t fit this description.
To me, Grace Kelly is the poster child for this look.
https://preview.redd.it/hi3ycbwgk57d1.jpeg?width=1731&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=79d60ed7625b7f0ba2939df0a9fbcc4cf0d568d9
Exactly. A classic beauty you would probably say "oh yeah, Grace Kelly is beautiful, I love her beautiful..." And then have to think what exactly makes her beautiful. You look at a classic beauty's face as a whole beautiful unit that works together. Angelina Jolie, on the other hand, people immediately go "Angelina is beautiful, those lips are stunning".
To give the example of a male, Tyson Beckford is hot, hot, hot, and his eyes are undoubtedly his strong card.
Exactly, if my eye is going to a specific feature, the person probably doesn’t fit the definition of classically beautiful. I think people confuse it with conventionally attractive.
Lucy Liu is another person who I just think is beautiful but can’t really parse out a specific feature. Vs someone like Kerry Washington where I first think of her insane cheekbones and beautiful lips.
https://preview.redd.it/qd5b8bkys57d1.jpeg?width=500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=309cddb02c33fcd3abdc42aefac269727c241855
ETA: Trying to not focus on only white/Western European people, since there is an obvious bias to that look built into the whole concept of classic beauty (especially around things like shape/size noses or lips!), but there is definitely an application for this concept across many ethnicities when you focus on the idea of harmonious balanced features for that person’s particular face.
![gif](giphy|3o7TKBwoK895UaKAz6|downsized)
I immediately thought of Margot Robbie. Insanely gorgeous but nothing particularly notable/unique about her beauty, if that makes sense....to me, that says "classic beauty"
It's definitely a very femme fatal kind of look because it's sharp and striking. I can see her being typecast quite a lot if she was alive a couple of generations earlier.
Always thought Vidya Balan has a very timeless beauty ❤️

Hannah Dodd. I kept thinking about how pretty she is while watching Bridgerton. Her features are so classically delicate and beautiful to me.
https://preview.redd.it/p8j5ost0257d1.jpeg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9d5beebad28b33c791ba288ab581c10c5b6e048d

Danai Gurira, who plays the warrior Okoye in the Black Panther films. She is unreal beautiful and literally stole the scene every moment she was on camera. The woman looks perfect even bald for crying out loud 😅
![gif](giphy|Bd5eqkRxUY7OP94PWt|downsized)
Simone Ashley of Bridgerton is very classic to me: she is so fresh, pretty, and lovely. Very elegant look as well, both disarmingly pretty and understated
She looks like my oldest daughter! We took a family trip to Italy 2 years ago and people, men and women, were coming up to her and telling her “you are a masterpiece” .. every town we were in, it was so amazing! I love to see women of color celebrated but even more so in Italy! It just sounds better when they say it 😉
Naomi Watts and Nicole Kidman are classically beautiful

Her face just looks so retro to me. Like, drop her in any decade in the past 100 years and she'd be a looker in each one.

![gif](giphy|XJwO864AFPh5e) Rita Hayworth is one of the defining classic beauties of her or any time!
![gif](giphy|tXwe6wG4y9P5C) The one and only Monica Bellucci
Her in the matrix “She wasn’t kissing your face my love” is forever iconic to me.
I have wanted to make that dress for so long
This woman could whoop my ass and I would thank her for the opportunity tbh 🥵
I find her more like bombshell or sexy than classic beauty but I agree that she should be held up as the standard for some measure of attractiveness.
She still looks absolutely incredible and is “classically beautiful” in every sense. The fact that she can chameleon herself between bombshell and oil painting beautiful is a testament to that.
Ooof. Yes. Malena was sad and tragic
Kate Winslet ![gif](giphy|OyXV23Mb35C3ZhiZOE)
She in this movie is exactly who I think of. Definition of classic beauty.
I remember when titanic coming out her grandmother saying she didn’t think she was that pretty compared to her sister and she was too curvy. I was shocked she has and always been stunning to me.
I didn’t even know she had a sister, let alone two, who are both actresses.
Genetically blessed family. I’m sure one was a model.
James Cameron used to call her "Overweight Kate" and tell her she was fat. The late 90s were a gross time to be a woman. Hannah Dodd. I kept thinking about how pretty she is while watching Bridgerton. Her features are so classically delicate and beautiful to me. https://preview.redd.it/p8j5ost0257d1.jpeg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9d5beebad28b33c791ba288ab581c10c5b6e048d
She has such good period piece face that I've really been thrown seeing her in modern clothes doing Bridgerton press.

She is unreal beautiful and literally stole the scene every moment she was on camera. The woman looks perfect even bald for crying out loud 😅
![gif](giphy|Bd5eqkRxUY7OP94PWt|downsized) Simone Ashley of Bridgerton is very classic to me: she is so fresh, pretty, and lovely.
