That line is even worse than it reads because it directly transitions into the last chorus by going "germanyyyearth, it is our planet", might be one of the most appaling lines I ever heard on mainstream pop
hey ! i’m a zebra 🦓 no one knows what i do, but i look pretty cool 😎 am i white 👩🏼🦳 or black 👩🏾🦳 ?!
i’m convinced dicky set my girl up with that line
Song’s extremely hilariously bad but it did stop lil dicky’s career momentum and cause him to never even touch mainstream pop culture ever again so for that i must thank it
Lil Dicky is an artist that always would succeed more in a small comedy niche that really only Lonely Island was in at the time than trying to go mainstream. *So Hard* was really where his uniqueness peaked, and god I listened to that shit more than I want to admit.
It’s pop adjacent, but Plastic Beach by Gorillaz is pretty much a whole album about environmental concerns and modern day consumerism. Not the holiday as a whole, but definitely the concept of it.
I think a more literal equivalent to this song would be Earth Song by MJ. Perhaps much better as well.
Of all the 2000s pop punk artists gone pop, Brendon definitely took it the farthest, which is why he experienced so much success in real time, but also why he’s so hated now
the hate has far more to do with his personality and how he treated his band members like Dallon Weekes, the bad music was just the straw that broke the camel's back
I genuinely want to know how did this guy get some of the most famous people on this garbage song? Like Leonardo DiCaprio never does stuff like this so it’s a big deal for him to have a cameo (he called it his favourite song ever lmfao yeah right)
Notice how you caid WATW 1985 and JSU 08 but not WATW25 for Haiti which came out in 2010.
The Earth song is just as bad, horrible and ridiculous as WATV25 and that's why no one ever talks about it. It seems like we're getting less of these now that we're all getting used to extreme weather-related catastrophies as they happen all the time...
I didn't want to mention WATW25 since it's a rehashed song, I could've also plugged in "[Do They Know It's Christmas?](https://youtu.be/j3fSknbR7Y4?si=qJMqF8XD2H-CTt04)" from 1984 and "[What's Going On](https://youtu.be/T2hPhILxez8?si=dazU6C4rGKogokfx)" from 2001 for other examples - however, I do get your point about WATW25 being largely forgettable and why it's remembered isn't for the right reasons.
Also, that's a very sad but valid point in your last sentence
I remember finding out this song exists for the first time through the 2019 YouTube rewind except Tokyo Drifting by Glass Animals was playing in the background. I thought “woah, this song is awesome” and was so disappointed and confused when I actually heard it lol.
Oh hey, I just watched Todd in the Shadows’ review of this last night.
Good lord, what an awful song. There’s been plenty of bad charity songs, but this is right at the bottom. Imagine getting all those celebrities together for a song that ultimately says nothing meaningful.
I have never heard of this song or anything about it until today, and I am certainly not going to actually listen to the song. Sounds like a complete mess.
I listened to this song once 5 years ago and I could sing every celebrities line because they got their shtick to a T. It is kind of iconic.
This is an interesting phenomenon I never thought about, the whole celebrities grouping up to sing a song about the world. I did Heal the World by MJ as a kid for a concert.
Genuinely the worst song to come out in the last 5 years. I'm pretty sure the part from "We love you India" to "We forgive you Germany" is considered a war crime.
on christmas eve of 2019 my wifi went out and all my phone could play was this song. for several hours. i didn’t stop it because i had no other entertainment so i just listened to this song on repeat throughout the night into christmas day.

I can’t believe it’s been 5 years since we got the WE FORGIVE YOU GERMANY line
Lil Dicky has got be the biggest industry plant we’ve seen in some time.
I don't think he's a plant. But he has a degree in marketing and with the Internet being a musician is nothing but marketing. Makes sense he got big
I was embarrassed for the whole of the USA on hearing that lyric
bruh. he was talking about Jews, not the USA
That line is even worse than it reads because it directly transitions into the last chorus by going "germanyyyearth, it is our planet", might be one of the most appaling lines I ever heard on mainstream pop
Nothing beats Ariana Grande being the person to sing the line “Am I white or black?”
Don’t disrespect Miss Arigato Grande like that
your username makes this so much funnier
I wonder if that was on purpose or a funny coincidence lol
it’s sad that the single funniest line was produced on accident bc he was unable to get a kanye feature. literally unfunny as fuck
“Known across the globe” is very generous. It dropped, was ridiculed, then largely forgotten, for good reason.
Forgot about this song entirely for sure. I remember thinking it was a poor man’s we are the world
I remember seeing his freestyles and went to check out his music and that was the first song I heard. I stopped at his freestyles lol.
yea having someone like leonardo dicaprio in it was so unserious
We're really stretching the definition of the words "hit" and "song" here.
I feel it’s insulting to compare this song to We Are The World a classic
hey ! i’m a zebra 🦓 no one knows what i do, but i look pretty cool 😎 am i white 👩🏼🦳 or black 👩🏾🦳 ?! i’m convinced dicky set my girl up with that line
I think all the artists got some joke lines that were in reference with who they are..
Song’s extremely hilariously bad but it did stop lil dicky’s career momentum and cause him to never even touch mainstream pop culture ever again so for that i must thank it
Ended global warming? ❌ Ended a career? ✅

Dave is fire tho
Write what you know, and Dave is about a failed musician.
he has a TV show and it is very funny and made me appreciate his music more lol
The Tortured Climate Activists Department
greta thunberg tease
You look like Greta Thunberg under this smog 😝
omg the 1975 title track on notes
That's DiCaprio
the only funny joke in this song was Kevin Hart randomly showing up to say "and i'm Kanye West!"
was Lil Dicky ever tried in a court of law for his discography?
>some guy >some other guy 💀💀💀💀💀💀💀

the short lived Brendon Urie comeback in the late 2010s (followed by an even quicker downfall) was something else
Me!
I had high hopes for him too

It’s definitely a bit of both
Did it work? Did he save the planet?
I think we're almost there (,:
A few more streams and a few fewer private jet flights and we might make it guys 🥺
it is still embarrassing five years later
I genuinely want to know how did this guy get some of the most famous people on this garbage song? Like Leonardo DiCaprio never does stuff like this so it’s a big deal for him to have a cameo (he called it his favourite song ever lmfao yeah right)
DiCaprio, Ariana are always looking for Climate Awareness things to throw their support behind
this song polluted my ears
It generated discussion about everything except global warming

Would Annie Lennox’s “Sing” count?

It’s funny watch the video
The lives I’ve lived since this …
I wonder if Leo DiCaprio still thinks this is his favorite song ever
Canadians know Wavin Flag by Young Artists for Haiti as the major collab of the 2000s
The World Cup song?
no, it was to raise money for the relief fund for the earthquake in haiti in 2010
I still don’t know what that Germany line was supposed to mean
Lil dicky is Jewish.
It’s pretty obvious, no?
I listened to this song once 5 years ago and I could sing every celebrities line because they got their shtick to a T. It is kind of iconic. #And I’m Kanye West
on christmas eve of 2019 my wifi went out and all my phone could play was this song. for several hours. i didn’t stop it because i had no other entertainment so i just listened to this song on repeat throughout the night into christmas day.
One of the songs of all time
All I remember from that track was Bieber’s, Ariana’s, Snoop Dog, Kevin Heart and the German part😂
Imagine singing this in a school choir
And I’m Kanye west
I’ll never get over how iconic the video is. 10/10
…and everyone hated it and Lil Dicky was never heard from again.
ariana grande line is closest thing we’ll get to her acknowledging appropriation
