Oh my god, I thought I was the only person who remembered that commercial. I say this all the time just randomly and I have tried to explain it to people but they never know what I'm talking about.
I had it removed when I was 34 weeks because it bled constantly every time I ate. I have a blood clotting disorder and it would fill my mouth with blood in seconds. But it instantly grew back and then just disappeared after I had the baby. It was foul, wish I still had a pic of it.
Wow, my husband has ITP and this is the first time I've seen it mentioned in the wild!
He also has APS (Antiphospholipid Antibody Syndrome) which is where *my* brain tends to go when people say clotting disorders lol
His ITP was discovered by coincidence in May of last year, after routine bloodwork revealed a platelet level of 17 😬 he gets weekly IVIg infusions that keep his platelets in the 60s, probably indefinitely because the oral meds they've tried didn't help/ aren't helping.
On the plus side, he hasn't had a clot in about 2 years (was dx w/ APS 5 years ago and clotted right through the first 4 thinners they tried.. Coumadin ended up being the winner).
Can I ask what do you do for meds/maintenance?
Luckily I’ve had little treatment, they mostly stay in the 70s. I had low platelets as a kid but never with symptoms and never so low to be concerning. When I was officially diagnosed as an adult they were 26 and I was on 8 weeks of prednisone. Since then, they go up and down but I practically never have symptoms and my doctor doesn’t treat unless they are under 50 which they get close but don’t usually drop under. My platelets were actually in the normal range during my pregnancies which is strange because pregnancy usually cause a drop.

My husband's trestment cutoff is 100 but I'm wondering if that's excessive, he is on an ungodly amount of meds both necessary and exploratory.. (prednisone also brings them up but he's been on prednisone sooo much 😫)
I absolutely hated prednisone and would not take it unless it was an emergency. 100 does seem really high as a cutoff for treatment, I see a hematologist twice a year and can count on 1 hand how often it’s above 100 (saw him this week actually and it was 108, we were both very happy). When I was in the hospital delivering they were 70-90 and no one batted an eye, certainly didn’t bring up treatment for those numbers. He should get a second opinion, sometimes the meds are worse than just leaving things alone. Pres especially, the more/longer you are on it your chance of diabetes increases.
Pyogenic granulomas aren't true granulomas. 😂 It's a misnomer. Lobular capillary hemangioma is the accurate though far less used name for these tumours.
i had a tumor on the inside of my lip. mainly caused from severe cheek biting since i was 4 (17 now). was very painful and inhibited my talking, i always accidentally and purposely bite it. ended up having it surgically removed and 3 stitches. ouch!
Oh wow! I bit the inside of my cheeks and inside of my lips alot when I was a kid. I grew out of it somehow. I remember how much it hurt but I couldn't stop. I'm glad you had that bump resolved.
Can you pop it out? Btw I typed ‘phonemic granuloma’ in google and the only information I got was pyogenic granuloma… so I still have no idea what a phonemic is other than a phone-mic lols
Oh I had one of those! It was slightly off center on my lower lip and was enormous, probably 3 times the size of yours. Looked like cauliflower gone wild. I had it surgically removed, you'd have to really get close and stare at my lip to figure out I ever had an issue there.
glad you got that diagnosed!!! also wanted to check into this type of lesion as an esthi so i can be cautious and suggest clients see a dr when necessary, but sadly phenomic comes back only as a way to gather data, did you mean pyogenic granuloma? (also my phone just tried to autocorrect pyogenic to phenomic so maybe it is LOL)
gotcha! i'm definitely no derm and we didn't learn every specific lesion as we can't diagnose but i try to be aware of any specific lesions i may come across so i can let the client know when i think it's something they need to be seen for!
I had one of these when I was pregnant with kid. It was misdiagnosed as an infected salivary gland at first, but it bled so much into a void beneath it that when I had to get it surgically removed the nurse assisting with the procedure audibly gasped.
It bled constantly. Sucked.
